I dropped in there the other night and the last post was made three days earlier.   The forum hasn't been the same since Eric passed on ---------------- then again it might just be the trend.

Would agree about the Eric factor.....I didn't use site much for posting but some of the threads were relevant.

I was also a fairly regular poster under the forum name of "GaryB" (I would have used that here as well but someone else had it!).  I went over to T&T after the sudden demise of "Go Touring", anyone remember that one?

We were on Go Touring to start with 😊

I had a communication from a business I had bought from last year advising that I could no longer send an e-mail but could contact them through FB, Instagram or Twitter......so won't be buying anything there again.

David, In the many years I had been with Mark & Sonja had never realised that there had been subjects banned, and I was continually one of their top posters. They didn't make anything,or weren't when the server changes took place a couple of years back. I will miss them, they were a totally different 'animal' to this excellent site insomuch as the whole feel was much more gentle. I don't even visit the CMC one and the only other one I do visit but not to browse and answer is C4U where like IanB/IanV8 I log my nights away.

It must have been at least two or three years ago. Basically it was the sort of posts we get here in the Social Room and they often led to arguments and bad feeling and I think Mark felt that it was having a negative affect on the forum overall. The trouble is, I expect, the people that wanted those sort of discussions, even if they contributed elsewhere on the forum, drifted away and as we witnessed a gradual reduction in people posting on the forum to the point it was not worth keeping it going. We have tried to do the same on the Club Together forum which often results in disruption of regular on topic posts unfortunately.

I wonder if the lack of animosity was due to Mark and Sonja banning the discussion of more contentious subjects? It seems to me that once that was put in place there was a rapid and permanent decline in the number of posts. I am not for one moment saying they were wrong in doing that but it did seem to have a consequence.

The advent of Facebook Groups seems to be the "new" thing and even Touring and Tenting are keeping a presence on Facebook.

I tend to agree that the 'free for all' approach initially adopted by Mark and Sonja possibly attracted the keyboard warriors but having spoken to them many  times, know they genuinely believed that the forum should moderate itself. In the early days T&T and CT were neck and neck in terms of membership numbers and posting stats, then T&T's growth slowed down as CT continued to grow slowly. It can be argued against but I believe we're only here because we kept a lid on the more contentious off-topic discussions by introducing the Social Club for non-caravanning discussion. Personally I am sad to read of T&T's closure as, while having a totally different character to CT, I feel it was a good place to meet and socialise with fellow caravanners, while still providing a platform for more serious topic to be discussed. I do understand the cost of running a forum and the impact that alternative social media outlets have, so I hope that Face-watsit proves successful for Mark and Sonja and I genuinely wish them all very best for the future down there in Southend.
