Which Club should I join?

I'm in CC, we have looked at the C&CC, but on some site they allocate a pitch which is what I don't want.   There are lots of other clubs out there, though we haven't tried any of them, perhaps some folk have and could let us know  about them

Yes, that's true for most, if not all the C&CC sites I've visited. Not sure why, but it does at least even up the wear and tear on the pitches. It's never bothered me either way. Choose or be allocated, I don't care so long as I can get on and I'm out nearly all day anyway, so really not bothered.

Re the www. outandaboutlive. co. uk website, from a quick glance it seems to be groups of similar minded folks, not bodies who actually own their own sites, so not really relevant to the OP?

The clubs are just insurance brokers  and expensive other brokers are just as good and cheaper by a lot usually.   I'v been with the CC insurance for 5 years until I saved £100 by moving to Lifesure, and I'm in year 3 with them now.

Thought the OP wanted to know what Club to join and not where to insure his caravan?

Perhaps you should read all the posts, insurance was mentioned earlier, I have already given my advise on the clubs.

From the OP.   "  which Club to go with as some insurance companies offer a discount if your with one of the main Clubs. "

We are members of both clubs and have been for many decades; it simply affords more choice and in the scale of things the extra cost over everything we spend on this hobby, is trivial.

The biggest issue to consider IMO is "availability of pitches" unless one is either into planning a long time ahead or prepared to go anywhere or not at all, the day before you go, and in this regard the Caravanning & Motorhome Club is often a nightmare.

For whatever reason their weekend and school holiday period slots can be fully booked, or only one of two or three nights being available, right up to a night before so planning a couple of weeks prior can be too challenging.

In this aspect the C&CC in our long experience fairs a great deal better, but does require a financial commitment to booking, I have a real suspicion that money commitment is the difference.

Though not of immediate interest to the OP the social "rally" type camping is another reason we personally spend a lot more camping nights with the C&CC that with the CMC, again in our opinion they do this in a far more "flexible" way.

Join both for a couple of years and see what best meets, or is able to meet your needs if you only finally want to fund one membership, would be my primary advice.

The original post mentioned Cornwall and was asking for well equipped sites.   One Club has six such sites there, the other Club has four, but the private sector has a couple of hundred well equipped sites.  You really don't have to be in a club unless you want to.

I also mentioned insurance. I had my renewal notice from my (then) insurance company, it had risen quite steeply, so I shopped around, and the cheapest quote was from the Camping and Caravan Club. My existing company couldn't/wouldn't price match so I went with the CC club. I'll see if their renewal quote is competitive this year.

Been in C&CC since 1977 and CC since 1988, worth being in both in my opinion, but then I've got veteran membership of the former now so half price.

I'm the opposite. Never had a problem being allocated a C&CC pitch and as you are usually escorted to a pitch the Holiday Site Manager is there to make sure you are correctly positioned and can point out the nearest water collection and disposal point. If you let the HSM's know in advance they will allocate adjacent pitches if you are meeting friends.

As I'm hardly ever likely to arrive at a site before mid to late afternoon, I'm not part of the CC scramble to arrive at 12 to bag the "best pitch", but it is a pet hate of mine in the CC to be shown on a sheet which pitches should be available, have to drive around the site to find them and then collect the key for the facilities at a later time.

A member of both clubs, but use both for different reasons,  and good advice to join both to see how they meet your caravanning needs for sites and other services.

John.

We mainly use CMC club sites, but on all the C&CC sites we have been to, we have been taken to a pitch.

If it is the Keswick site which we go to often and know well, we ask for a particular area and get taken there if a pitch is available.

If we don’t know the site, we look at the pitch we are taken to and if we don’t like the look of it, ask for another one.

Never yet been forced onto a pitch we wern’t happy with

We are with both CMC and CCC, we joined the CCC earlier this year we made a shortlist of the sites we were interested in, unfortunately for us the online description misleading and did not match the site in real life, we were disappointed and booked none.

We will definitely NOT be renewing our CCC Membership next  year.

I would suggest to the OP that they join both camping organisations. . ......BUT if they only want to join one, I would suggest that the "Friendly Club"  is the better option.   I much prefer friendly informality in a laid back atmosphere, rather than rigid adherence to outdated customs.
