Review: Red Kite Touring Park

Recommended Posts

A fabulous adult only site in the Cambrian Mountains of Wales.   Its a great place for hiking, plenty of hills.   You can walk to the local village by walking through the dog walk area, down hill until you get to a small lane (cross over and you will enter a static caravan site, its owned by the same people as Red Kite), turn left and it will take you to the main road where there's a footpath.   Its all down hill, but a bit of a climb coming back.   It has a toilet block, which no matter where your pitch is, will mean an uphill walk.   It has a dishwashing room, a ladies and gents, with 3 showers, 2 private sinks and 7 toilets.   If these are being cleaned, then there is a gents/womens room which houses a sink, toilet and shower (there are 2, one on each side of the building), and also a dog wash shower room to wash your pooch if he/she has had a fabulous time in the river or ponds.   Your pitch has gravel for both caravan and awning, it has 16amps, water (both drinking and dealing with your cassette toilet - bear in mind, to dump the contents in the grid on your pitch, you will need to use the green fluid rather than the usual blue, so beware as it could cost you an arm and leg and more besides to have the tanks cleaned) and also a tv point as your normal tv aerial on your caravan doesn't work here, and you only get 12 stations, but a satellite will work.   Its a big of a bind knocking the pegs in for the awning, because of the hardcore, as the pegs keep coming out, even though you think you've knocked them right in.   There is no shop, but does serve up milk, eggs, drinks).  Wifi is free.   When booking in, you will receive a fob to open the barrier which needs a £10. 00 refundable deposit, and its got to be cash, no cards accepted.   The nearest town, Llanidloes, has a Spar and a Co-op.   When we were there, the diesel (you pass a petrol station on the way in and priced at £1. 34 a litre) wasn't too bad a price.   There's a Tescos and Morrisons in Newtown, who's diesel was £1. 31, so not too bad a price.

  • 4 years later...

We stayed here for a week at the end of June this year on one of their Premium Serviced pitches - it was huge!

It’s a beautiful, exceptionally well kept site with very helpful wardens and a small shop stocked with essentials, but the small town is easily accessible with bigger supermarkets about 30 minutes drive away.

We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, should we return to this part of the world 👍

Don’t die wondering …..

We were there for Easter week 2023. On Easter Sunday each touring pitch was given an Easter egg.

Yes the hard core on the pitch is something else. I have re bar pegs and a lump hammer, the pitch won.🏆⚒️

Apart from that this is an excellent site. (Was recomended by Glen & Les). It has pop ups. The barista Guy with the horse box is something else and the Bhaji Scotch Egg (yes scotch egg) and Welsh cakes are really good.

I used to travel past it most weeks with work, seen the first bricks being layed.

Will we return. Try stopping us. Expensive yes, but compared to CMC  simular pitch prices it's not. Adults only is what attracts us.

We spent six nights there last August.

A very nice site and it needs to be at their prices.

I've got nothing to do on this hot afternoon

but to settle down and write you a line.

Looks fine, but an extra £1.50 per night for dogs? Bit steep. We like  Upper Glandulas CL at the other end of town, easy to walk into town from with great views of the countryside.
