I can never understand why when designing caravan pitches they don’t design them like herring bones, instead of side by side laterally, result would be,drive past, slight reverse at angle, easy, and

That'll teach you.   Lol.   Silly to be naive enough to ask a question that can be so simply answered.    You'll soon learn that there are those who sit ready to pounce all day and night . C

Guess I have to be the first to point out, very gently, what an arrogant post this is.  Wait a few years and then you might be thankful for all the aid you can get for any part of caravanning, includ

It's their site, they can set the rules - anyone who doesn't like them won't book there.

As BG says, they can set whatever rules they like, you either choose to go and abide by them or go somewhere else. What's the problem?

Understandable, in view of the amount of damage that sometimes happens to grass, or other hardware by careless reversing, but a bit OTT. What about motorhomes?

Bit like Bath Chew Valley where they tow your 'van to the pitch for you. Apparently saves on damage to grass caused by visitors when reversing.

If it's in their T&Cs, then it's right ;)

It's my lunchime webtrawl  looking for interesting snippets and sometimes wondering what goes through people's minds when they ask questions like that. Frequently I'm so astounded that I dont answer:unsure:.

I'm sure others feel the same about me, that's what keeps us all on our toes

Watching some people’s antics reversing onto pitches you can hardly blame them!

I can understand any site owners wishing to preserve the grass on their site and they can apply any rules they like but by effectively banning anyone without a motor mover does at first sight appear a little over the top.

I stayed at a small site last year where the pitch layout was such that it was impossible to reverse onto most of the dozen pitches. It was built on a slope but with the pitches terraced. It was therefore sensible to point out to potential visitors the limitations of the site. It was a very popular site and nearly always fully booked.

Interests, none worth mentioning. Just plain boring most of the time, and very boring the rest.

"Over the top " as you say and "interesting" as the OP said but nevertheless as others have pointed out it's the site owner's prerogative!

Maybe there could be posts set at the end of each pitch and winches supplied?

Sounds like a daft rule to me.

Why not take a deposit at check in to cover pitch damage instead?

Surely simply because of that . ..................DAMAGE.

Seems better to avoid it don't you think?

A returnable deposit of several £100s and requiring a pitch inspection before leaving? It wouldn't work.

I've seen the damage that stupid, inconsiderate drivers can do to pitches - especially with a big 4x4 on off-road tyres - it's only a very small minority but it still happens.

The site could offer a tow-on service using their little tractor, just as some storage sites do if they have pitches as well.

Of course, now that you have spoken, I see the error of my ways.  :rolleyes::rolleyes:. What was I thinking posting such nonsense!?

I've also seen the damage that can be done.

I've also worked on golf courses (where the grass is a little bit more specialist) and I know the actual levels of effort/cost/time to do the repairs.

Finally, I've worked in hospitality, where I've seen the deterrent effect that the risk of losing a deposit can have - especially if an alternative is offered (your little tractor will do nicely, thanks).

Helicopter service, thats the answer for site owners who want the income, but are less keen on having to do maintenance. Lower the van on to the pitch, underslung on a helicopter. :-)

Personally I don't like grass pitches prefer hard standing or loose stones, I have never had any problems reversing onto a pitch so  no need for a motor mover for me plus the cost and weight of the motor mover onto the van.

I don't like Blackpool so there will be issue for visiting this site but totally understand the reason for there restrictions.

We stayed on the excellent The Lawns site nr Holbeach,Lincs this year, second visit, on their main section with EHU's, rather than the massive rally fields, they ask that you unhitch and use your motor mover to pitch. Your vehicle then parks on a hard standing dent in front of the 'van and not on the pitch. .....It worked well.

We have witnessed serious damage being done by a motorist who could easily have reversed his caravan onto his pitch as the previous day I did so and our pitch location was identical on the other side of the site road. This guy had several attempts and each time drove far too aggressively, and then resorted to turning his steering wheel onto full lock whilst static. By the time he’d finished there was damage which would have taken hours of work to put right - on OUR pitch, close to our door way. At one point he had his front wheel underneath our canopy. I attempted to speak to him about it but got a mouth full in response. “It’s only a bit of grass” he said. I told the site warden but I don’t think he did anything about it.

Two of the biggest problems are that the roadways are too narrow to have enough room to get the turn in place, and the oitches are so short that if there is a van on it there is limited swing room as well.

I have to say that the CC is a significant culprit in thus area!

Very much like Newlands new pitches.   Virtually impossible without a mover!
