Hello,  please could anyone be of help with our problem.  My son has a hymer nova 570 2008 and has been told by our local service engineer that the control panel has blown and needs replacing.  He won't do the job as he says it needs a hymer specialist to do the job and it will cost at least £1,000. 00.   Apart from the cost our other major problem is that the Nova is stored in north Wales and none of us have a vehicle that can tow the van so getting to a hymer specialist is also a costly matter.  Does anyone have any experience of this problem and are there any mobile engineers that would be prepared to do the job?   Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

These people specialise in repairing Schaudt Elektrock units and I hear very good reports of them.

These units whilst very good in their technical performance are prone to spikes from poor EHU and "dirty" generators; the repair itself is not too costly a friend also with a Nova has had this issue twice!

Schaudt themselves in Germany also repair the units on a quick turn round but postage charges could be somewhat more costly.

Our 2007 570, had this problem. The charger unit was replaced with a battery charger unit worked fine for us and a lot less than £1000

A and N caravan services, North Wales are, it seems Hymer specialists and says they can do the work so we are keeping everything crossed that it all comes together.  It' good that there are people like yourselves on this forum so willing to help, thanks again.

One point to check out is whether the van retains its intended GEL rather than having a retro-fitted AGM or "flooded" battery,  plus was the controller set to the right type of battery?

These vans house the battery within the habitation space and need for safety reasons to be used with the right type of battery, or modified to the right venting provisions. To avoid early battery failure and stressing the charger the charging routine needs to be set appropriately for the battery type fitted.

Hopefully, A & N can quickly sort out your unit.

Homer now fit AGM batteries instead of Gel but the Schaudt unit still has the switch for flooded or Gel or least this is the case for our 2015 van.  I have never used them but I think that A and N have a good reputation.  I also think that Schaudt themselves will do a fixed price refurb, but it does mean taking it out and shipping to Germany which inevitably means that they will be without it for some time.

A big thank you to Deno for suggesting we try A and N caravan repairs.  Allan has now fitted a new control panel and everthing is working fine now.  He did advise us that we need to change our battery every 3 years as old batteries not fully charged usually causes the control panel to blow.
