Durbanite
The moment looking for insurance on a caravan. Is it worth paying to protect your NCB because if you are unfortunate enough to make a claim, the premium is going to go up anyway as the NCB does not offer any discount on the annual premium? In addition Legal protection is offered as an optional extra, but I am not sure why. Surely if you have a claim the insurer has the responsibility to resolve the issue and not for you to be chasing around trying to resolve the issue. Together they add on an additional amount of about £50 to the premium plus the VAT. Caravanners’ Legal Protection Caravanners’ Legal Protection is an optional extra for both Standard cover and Super cover. If your caravan is involved in an accident that is not your fault, you have a legal right to claim back your losses from the person who caused the accident. Caravanners’ Legal Protection gives you the power to protect your legal rights and can help you recover losses that fall outside of the scope of a caravan or motor insurance policy. Legal Eagle
More often than not there will be uninsured losses (e. g. any excess you have to pay, cost of alternative accommodation maybe) which are up to you to claim back. Insurers have no responsibility to resolve an issue, only to provide cover for the insured risk and compensate accordingly. The legal cover may well extend beyond any claim into other areas, consumer protection possibly?? You'd have to examine the small print. With regard to NCD, it must be remembered that is a No Claims and not a No Blames discount. Even if a claim was through no fault of your own and the other party paid out, in theory you could still legitimately lose discount for making a claim. insurance policies are VAT exempt but there is an Insurance Premium Tax (IPT). Durbanite
Thanks. When it comes to insurance and add ons I am a bit lost. On both policies. CMC & Towergate the cost of alternative accommodation seems to be included at approximately £150 a day for 15 days. I must admit I never thought about claiming back the excess, but then the only claim I have made was an "at fault" claim relating to not seeing an overhanging branch while reversing on a CC site and modifying the rear end of the towing vehicle.
