kenzo
Hi all. Need your help. We recently placed our caravan on a seasonal pitch, which we love and saves me the tow stress. Problem is our caravan faces into the sea breeze and when it catches our door, it slams it shut . ... I mean SLAM !! We have a regular securing clip / catch that retains the door in a closed position but it's not strong enough. What is the best catch for the job. Thanks in advance. Kenzo. Richard_Y
I'm fairly new to this myself, but think it'll help if you can show people a pic of what you've got now. I found a stronger version of the one we had on our 17yr old 'van on Ebay, and it works a treat just by being new and not worn down. In our case it was a simple one of this sort of thing http://www. ebay. co. uk/itm/331614734680?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984. m1436. l2649 but I realise other vans have very different patterns. Best of luck - it's an annoying problem!
kenzo
Thanks Richard. The link you posted is the exact one fitted to our door . .. it is REALLY annoying ! Kenzo. This is our door catch
ReggiePerrin
Could you drill a small hole right through the two parts of the catch such that when the door is 'latched' open a wire nail or similar could be dropped though to prevent the two parts separating until the 'pin' is removed? Paul_B
I wonder why its so close to the hinge side? being on the hinge side means the wind has more leverage mine is a different type and is on the handle side http://www. ebay. co. uk/itm/W4-VIVA-CARAVAN-MOTORHOME-EXTERIOR-DOOR-RETAINER-CATCH-WHITE-37848-/321620653296?hash=item4ae215b4f0:g:oSYAAOSwnDxUkvCt Quote Paul B . .......Mondeo Estate & Elddis Avanté 505 (Tobago)

Richard_Y
Thanks Richard. The link you posted is the exact one fitted to our door . .. it is REALLY annoying ! Kenzo. This is our door catch My apologies, Kenzo - I picked the wrong one from my Ebay watch list, in haste. Here's the one I ended up with, which I think is heavier duty. Its grip is so strong I feared at first it might damage the door when pulling on the door handle, but it's fine. It went into just the same screw holes (with a bit of sealer to keep things dry), so a dead easy DIY job. I kept the rubber block our old one had, to absorb the strain a bit. I'm all for not drilling new holes on the outside if there's another way! Before, our door blew shut in the slightest breeze, because in the years of our van's previous ownership, the "beak" of that old catch had just worn down. Since then, no problem, even on the very windy West Coast of Scotland this April. Hope this helps. http://www. ebay. co. uk/itm/Heavy-Duty-High-Quality-Veneta-Door-Catch-Retainer-Caravan-Motorhome-Boat/272662939739?_trksid=p2047675. c100011. m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.
