Holland Advice

Recommended Posts

Plan to explore a bit of Holland for the first time on the way back from Moselle to Hook of Holland in September. Would like to visit some interesting towns and Gouda, Delft and Leiden look promising. Are they good choices? Are there other must-see places? And has anyone any recommended sites handy for those towns, preferably ACSI?

Of the towns mentioned, we,like many of the posters here, have stayed at Delftse Hout. ....since we last visited the site has been greatly upgraded and lots of recommendations made. .....it is only 15 minutes good walk from town centre. .....don't know if it is ACSI as we have only visited on rallies.

Keukenhof Gardens well worth a visit, we found Amsterdam a bit of a let-down. Driving in the bigger towns like Arnhem and Nijmegen very stressful especially roundabouts.

I live a 10 minute drive from the Dutch border, the Netherlands has some cracking sites.

Den Haag (The Hague) is very interesting with museums and things to see and it has a seaside resort right on its doorstep at Scheveningen, we stay here if we're in this area, its also close to Leiden:

http://www. duinrell. com/ a huge site but avoid it on Bank Holidays or the main holidays as it gets packed (unless thats not a problem).

Zeeland is great when the weather is nice with long sandy beaches with 'beach hut bars' and its fantastic if like me you're into cycling, Brouwersdam is a popular watersports location. This is our favourite Dutch site, it's an 1/2 hour drive from Europort Rotterdam:

https://www. strandparkdezeeuwsekust. nl/en situated between Renesse & Scharendijke

Arnhem is interesting if you're into history and the Commonwealth War Cemetery at nearby Oosterbeek is a must visit.

De Paal campsite near Eindhoven has a good reputation.

You can find plenty of quality sites at:

Stayed at De-Paal last may lovely site but aimed for families, drove into Eindhoven, lovely city.

Depending on the Dutch bank holidays will be going back next year if they do their June special again.

If your just making your way back to the ferry and have time, stop off at Veere; it's a lovely place. There is a small site just outside of the small town (or maybe it's a village!) with a cycle route (of course as in Holland!).. you can also cycle quite easily into the town of Middleburg, a much larger place but just as nice. Visit the seaside town of Domburg which has a lovely beach. We spent a week here about three years ago and absolutely loved the area.

Would definitely return to this area.
