Window Tints

Recommended Posts

Anybody tinted there caravan windows, if yes how did you do them, and can the people that tint car windows do them or is it a specialist job, I wondered if the glue on car window tints would have any effect on perspex caravan windows.

Generally no glue on car window tints. The ones I've seen are applied using soapy water and squeegeed out when the tint is applied. IIRC, there's been some threads/posts saying not to apply tints to Perspex windows.

The plasticiser in the tinting film can wreck acrylic windows so you'd need to make sure that any tinting material is guaranteed suitable for acrylic otherwise you could end up with a very expensive problem in the future.

The guy to ask is a forum member called Spannerz. I have done a search for him, with no luck. He specialises in window films and did my apartment. A moderator may be able to see if he is a member still?

From experience, fitting a tinted or mirror film to the inner surface of Polyplastic windows works perfectly well. I have done this on a few caravans but did remove the windows first so they could be placed horizontal for the work. Many years later none of the Polyplastic windows showed any ill effect. You just need to take care to clean the window thoroughly first and avoid creasing the film, or trapping any dust particles beneath when fitting.

Generally I am not a fan of dark tinted windows but please see my previous replies on this subject:-

Thanks Gordon, the reason I want to tint them is I had to replaice one of the 3 front windows, with a new one and the tint is darker because the original ones have faded, so want to tint the front 3 windows to try to get them all to match.
