Hello

I have a 1995 baily magenta pageant, my water heater at times you can hear it bubbling/boiling and the temp is very HOT

but I cannot see anywhere on the heater to check a thermostat or turn it down

Does anybody have any information about this

Many thanks

Are you using gas or electric?

Is the problem on both?

On my caravans I have had no control when on electric but on gas I can set water temperature.

If it's on gas, then you may need to get the control board, controller or thermostat checked out. If it's when on electric then it's likely that the stat that's built into the element has failed.

In which case all you can do is change the element - not a difficult job but they cost around £60. Also in a van of that age you might find that the tank/element is a bit furred up and would benefit from a descale

Both gas/election are switched on !

When I just put the elec switch on, I get a red alarm on and it does not heat up, but when I put the gas on at the same time, the water heats up

When I put the gas while the elec is switched on, the red alarm goes out and it all works well, apart from boiling some times

What sort of heater is it - sounds like a Carver - you probably need a specialist to give you some info.

Gary at ARC Systems is the fount of all knowledge on caravan heating & hot water http://www. arcsystems. biz/ . Give him an ring or drop him an e-mail. There's also some ifo on his website which might point you in the right diects

I believe 1995 Carver heater is old enough to have an adjustable gas thermostat hidden behind the outside cover. 4 screws and the cover over the thermostat wheel is visible. That was the Cascade. The later Cascade 2 had the thermostat deleted and a more powerful electric element.

The lift-up flap on the right reveals the thermostat wheel
