Not gone one of those but I have the passat 4 motion, there will be little to chose between them except for the badging - nice car. The 6 speed box is fantastic, mine goes like a rocket and towing is an absolute dream. A problem you will have though is remembering that the van is one the back when you go for the overtake. !!

almost :D

i've got its hooligan relative . ...the vRS

fuel bill a bit higher! :o but its a bit on the quick side! 146 on the autobahn - with ease

i've had various company cars over the years in this has been the most reliable ever - 45,000 miles with one very small warranty claim . The only adverse comment \I can make is that the clutch can get a bit light when you do a lot of shunting into a pitch but the same has applied to the last three cars i've had ( golf PDTDI and primera)

would happily recomend it to anyone :)

I have had My Octy now since October 04 and and towed for about 2000 miles. Found it more than a match for my van, the hills dont bother it (been to Scotland and lakes) Best car I have ever had! :D

I use BP Ultimate fuel and get 35mpg average when towing and 57 mpg solo. :)

The caravan press rate it as one of the best tow cars in its class and it has just come second in What Car's car of the year and best in class. Those who still mock Skoda now find the joke is on them. :o

Still while there secret is not quite out yet, it keeps the prices down. That seems to include the insurace less than £290 last time. B)

Doesn't anyone else find that the octy is a bit reluctant to pull away with the caravan behind? It's my only very small quibble, but I had clutch burn last year at Dover, towing up a steep ramp with a great big crawling lorry in front of me!

I heard the clutch can be a problem on many VAG cars, ie Passat, A4 etc.

It can be uprated with an after market product, I heard a company called Sachs do them.

Not had any problems with mine still feels very smoothe when pulling off with the van or crawling in jams.

The only real cure,if you have the Dual Mass Flywheel and especially if you are considering uprating power with a remap or similar,is to fit the earlier pattern solid flywheel and uprated clutch. This problem has become a big issue in the USA where chipping of 1. 8ts in particular has given lots of work to transmission specialists and a headache for VAG. The only -ve in an excellent range of towcars. :)
