Grp Gelcoat Restorer Any Recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hi.

My van has a GRP front panel and the gel coat is looking chalky and dull. ..again.

Farecla Gelcote Restorer seems to get good reviews, just wondered if any of you chaps had used it?

Used a 3M's similar product last time but now need to reorder.

Thanks.

Despite its labelling I have serious doubts that it "restores" the gel-coat at all, only cuts it down a bit to fresher material and adds some weathering protection.

The company's products are I believe highly recommended in the GPR boat field.

Hi handsome! I've tried most things, but nothing is really successful. At the moment I am using

Autoglym products.

Try it on your avatar first! :D:D

My SIL is a professional full time GRP and he says Farecla is the best.

Watching their you tube video on a badly oxidised boat they used a 200 compound after first using wet and dry paper, but it looked shiny when finished. I'd be tempted to try the 200 or 300 grade and finish off with my own wax.

No Jim! Far too abrasive. Use 800 to 1000. I have polished a "fading" mark out of the front

of mine, then polishing compound. Ruddy hard work!!

The Meguiars stuff looks tempting too, I use their stuff on my car.

Just an update chaps.

Went for the Farecla in the end, front panel now gleaming.

Bought a Halfords 12v oscillating polisher to go with it which I did think would not be man enough but along with the Farecla Gelcoat Restorer, a gentle combination, finishing off with Autoglym Super Resin Polish, a first class job was achieved.

Thanks for your input.

Just an update on this topic, I've just used the Meguiars stuff that Cluffjack recommended on our caravan and it's worked wonders, very impressed with it, I used a cordless drill on fast speed with a buffing pad then a coat of Meguiars wax to protect it.
