Stabiliser And Where To Get One Second Hand Cheaply

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am new to caravanning and the caravan I bought had the old fashioned big flat heavy metal bar stabiliser which cannot work with my towbar as I have a swan neck.

What one shall I buy? I assume the Alko ones are good.

Where can I buy one second hand and to make sure I have all the parts necessary to fit it to my caravan to replace the ordinary hitch thats on there now?

Kind regards.

I am totally new to caravanning as of September 2014

EBay is the most obvious place. I bought (new) an Alko and fitted it myself, didn't take long. An Alko 3000 I think - I have ATC on my current van.

You can get an adaption which allows the fitting of a GOOD stabiliser as you describe, to a swan neck towbar. Sorry, can't remember where I saw one for sale ---try google or Gumtree under caravan parts.

Just bought one off ebay for £170. It was the best looking one and came with a few extras like the ball thing that stays inside to protect the friction pads. All the others still went for prices like £120 and they were rusty as hell in really bad condition.

This caravan lark is so exciting. Can't wait to go on our first trip in it.
