My advice to would-be purchasers? - move on to something a bit better.. Here's a no-particular-order list of some of the niggles we have had : The 'wallpaper' scuffs/tears very easily when doing simply things like stowing the dinette table. The wallpaper joint strips peel away from the wallpaper itself, making the walls look tatty and tired. Several small fittings have broken, such as the buffers for the glass cover on the hob unit.. and that glass hob cover is very easily scratched too.. The Whale heater developed a fault and can't be fixed under warranty by anyone in my area (within 60 miles). Even though there are whale service centres quite local to me, it seems the Whale have recently 'withdrawn' specific appliance support to those service centres that haven't been on tailored courses for each appliance? The shower curtain is a joke - it just clings to the door and lets water run down into the main cabin - just about the dumbest design flaw you could think of, and to cap this when my retailer approached Elddis, they said there was nothing wrong and that anyway they couldn't source a longer shower curtain! Really!? - so do something else to keep the water inside the shower tray, like lower the (top) curtain rail a few inches, or fit a drip ledge on the door! These measures aren't rocket science but seem to elude Elddis. On one trip to Scotland we have a problem with the front locker panel vibrating; I guess this was due to a cross-wind in combination with our towing speed (not that we were towing fast; perhaps 50-55mph?) This was pretty disconcerting when it happened. I don't know if other caravanners have had similar experiences? Since acquiring our 'van we've seen other Xplore 304 'vans with cracked shower trays and corner mouldings to the roof. They are just not built to last, it seems. (And btw, I don't believe that the 'SoLID' construction means you get a 'one-piece' roof that covers the top and then rolls down the edges/corners of the roof.. the joints are there, on the flat, so probably suceptible to any water ingress getting past the mastic seals on the flat part of the roof). The pull-out main bed isn't supported in the middle when extended - the wooden cross-rails get pulled beyond the support edge. This can possibly be fixed with DIY glued/screwed on extra edge piece, but why should customers have to do this? - and anyway Elddis are notoriously quick to slap warranty exclusions on for literally any work you do yourself on the van. For me, the 304's generally low-cost approach quickly showed its lack of pedigree and poor/cheap construction, within the first year of use. I hoped that our careful use would mitigate against these problems, but it hasn't - the 304 is just a cheap build. Pity. I think I'll try a Bailey next time.

If anyone has got one - - Hows everyone found it? - What do you tow it with? - Where have you taken it ? Practical Caravan Review - http://www. practicalcaravan. com/reviews/caravan/31910-xplore-434

Hi to you all out there. I am interested in knowing how many of the current owners of Elddis/The Explorer Group caravan owners have vans made after the year 2000. I have also posted a question and poll into Caravan Chat,it is about membership of The Elddis Owners Club.
