  1. Hi guys, just wondering what's the largest water heater you've come across? Most I can find are 10 - 12 liters Thanks, Ross.
  2. Hi All, My van is fitted with a Trumastore Rapid with model numbers BN10 & BN103 (pre-2006 model). In the time I've had the van (around 5 years) I've had intermittent problems with starting the water heater when running on gas but always managed to get it started and keep it running, not so this time. The heater will start as soon as the dial is turned to the on position and I can hear, smell and feel the heat from the external burner flue, within about 10 seconds it sounds like the electric sparker clicking rapidly as though attempting to light the gas and after another 10 seconds the whole thing cuts-out and stops working with the red fault light showing. My conclusions so far are that the gas supply is OK, the electric supply is OK, the tank fills with water OK and the burner fires up OK. Could this be a fault with the PCB, part number is B096 c01. 98 Rev 4? Is a replacement PCB the next option? The heater runs fine on 240v, but I need it to run on gas also. Cheers, Tim.
  3. We have just bought a 2012 Bailey Olympus 460/2 caravan. We are new to caravanning and are still working our way through all the appliances, the handbook, etc. We haven't taken the van out as yet. I'm wondering where the gas heater is located. Is it in the hot water tank itself? Also, in the handbook, it says to remove the outside cowl cover when using gas to heat the water. Am I right in thinking that this cowl only needs to be removed when the gas heater is use, but not when other gas appliances are in use, such as the cooker, hob or heater? Many thanks.
  4. Hi my gas heating wont work i dont no what am doin rong? Can you help what is the cowl cover?
  5. we have 2 problems one with water heater blowing elements & not engaging on gas as day cools.
  6. We have a Rapido pop-top caravan, built in 2000. The Carver water heater's just had its burner serviced by the superb Gary at Arc Systems. To enable this our engineer removed the entire unit. While it turned out that just taking the burner off would have sufficed, it meant we could see the sealant round the cover flange had got a bit tired, so I'm happy it'll be properly re-sealed there. There has in the past been some damp round that hole in the wall, and while it currently seems no threat, a patch of inside wall is still a little soft, possibly from condensation when the heater was in use. I'm wondering if it would be a good thing to put a coat of wood seal or something round the raw edge of the aperture, to help prevent ingress of any more condensation in that way, or if it's better to leave it. The Carver fits pretty well in the gap, but I suppose it might breathe a tiny bit if left uncoated. Any help will be welcomed, thanks, Richard PS Sorry I can't supply photos, the van's currently back in storage with a PVC square in place to keep any wet out until we get the unit reinstalled.
  7. Hi Gents ive got a 2009 Elddis Crusader Super Sorocco and it has a standard fit Truma Ultrastore Rapid (not sure if it’s the 10l or 14l Anyway, I’m thinking of upgrading it to a bigger Heater / storage unit as I’ve got the space for it under the seating area. I’m guess it’s fairly easy to swap over - anyone else done his and if so any recommendations on a new unit and also where I can order it from As always - thanks guys, I’m always appreciative Alan
  8. Another Carver Cascade 2 query - ours stopped working on gas, but was working on electricity. It was serviced a few weeks ago, on the day the Great Siberian Freeze arrived, as part of the van's general service. I'm fairly certain it can't have drained properly, as everything froze that day. The engineer properly loosened the big drain plug at the bottom Left of the cowling. He also loosened what I now understand to be the bleeder plug at the top Left of the cowling. We first used the caravan this week. Now when even the cold tap is switched on, water pours out through the cowling, apparently through the bleeder plug, possibly other places too, roughly as much water as arrives inside through the tap. The big drain plug is now closed. I can't get the smaller plug at the top to locate in any way, it just twists round, bobbling in and out a bit as it does, but not catching anywhere. I can't tell if water's just bubbling out through that, or more widely. Is that little plug supposed to shut tight? We're only just back from the trip, so no time yet to get the engineer to come & look at it & diagnose properly. But meanwhile, the whole thing is nearly 20 yrs old. I'm wondering whether it's going to be pouring money into a drain to have it mended or even replaced with a reconditioned similar unit from a breaker: it's bound to be a similar age, and may be one of the less reliable ones I've read about after Carver stopped making their own. Maybe we should bite the bullet & get a replacement modern one by Truma - or someone else? The van's too small to upgrade to one with a heater on, there's no space to put one without losing useful space in the caravan, so just a gas/elec water heater seems best. Comments, and recommendations would be most welcome to help us in deciding, please. Thanks.
  9. We have a Rapido caravan made in 2000, with a Carver "Cascade Rapide" water heater, presumably from the same year. I realise this is practically Roman History by now, but please, if anyone out there knows about these, I'd really welcome any advice! The only trips we've had so far have been on EHU, when it works perfectly, and thus haven't been using the gas side. It ignited straight away, and heated well last time I tried it, but that was some months ago. I hadn't realised you have to keep reminding these things to work even if you don't need them at the time! Now we'd like to use it again to go off-grid, and it's not playing. I have the book of words but it doesn't cover the display I'm getting. The control panel has three lights: green shows all's well and working. Yellow shows insufficient battery power. Red shows it hasn't ignited. There are various two-light options given in the troubleshooting section for displays, but nothing for all three at once. I'm getting all three! I've run the gas cooker, lit the gas in the fridge, made sure it's got water coming through to the hot tap, and the battery's charged fully. I've tried repeatedly, with the prescribed minutes between attempts. So - any comments, please? It's not a complete tragedy if it won't, we can kettle-heat washing water if need be, but it's nice and convenient to have things working. Thanks, Richard
  10. Hello everyone We have a bailey orion 430-4, we've not been out in it yet. Hoping to go next week so been getting to know how things work. No problem with heating, filled water tank, but think we must be doing something wrong with the water heater, we can't get any hot water. Can anyone advice us what we should be doing. Thank you. Caron
  11. We have a 2015 model Lunar Cosmos (Quasar) 544. It has a Truma CP Plus combi system for hot water and space heating. If my wife and I take showers in the Lunar, the shower hot water runs decidedly cold after a few minutes even if we use it sparingly. This is with the hot water setting turned to Boost and with both gas and electric heating the water. . In previous vans we have been able to shower with almost continuous hot water. We are not wasteful as a full 40 litre Aquaroll is more than enough to see us through 24 hours of 2 showers, washing up etc. The van is due for it's first service soon. Do othes with this Truma system have the same experience, or is there a fault in our van?
  12. Hi I have just got an Elddis Chatsworth 515 and took it out for the first time this weekend. I thought the set up would have been the sameish as my other van was. However, I had no hot water all weekend. I set up as normal - Got water, pump in, mains on, heater switch on, 230v on. Once I turned my tap on to draw through it was flowing instantly. Can anybody let me know what went wrong and how do I get the water heater filled? Thanks

  14. We are on Site with 16amp ehu, every time I switch on my Whale water heater it trips the bollard! I have tried it with nothing else on but it still trips! There is water in the boiler and it worked when we first arrived yesterday? The rcd in the Motorhome does not trip it is only at the bollard. Any ideas please.
  15. Hi I have a Sterling onyx 2004 and I cant find a switch for the electric water heater, the only way I can see is on the fuse box in the wardrobe, can any one help please
  16. Hi peeps, I've just purchased my first caravan and am just trying to get everything working. When I got to the water I've just filled a big bucket up and put the pump in it. As it's my first caravan and no one to ask I'm hoping one of you can assist me in getting it fixed. When I turn the tap on the pump starts which I'm thinking is good :-) ! however if I leave it running a little and go outside there is lots of water coming out from the vent bit. There is a little drain plug which I've fitted a new O ring but it actually seems to be coming from above this. Inside the van there are no signs of water and water does eventually come out of the tap. However, this doesn't feel warm at all. :-( Can anyone give me some pointers please? I'm quite handy with things so hopefully it's an easy fix. O. . I've added some photos below; Also, I've no idea what the two bottom switches do on the control panel. I'm assuming one if for the water heater and the other for the heater element. . however the heater element isn't working either?... I have no gas connected at the moment. The van is an old elddis 1999 if that helps. The control for the fan on the blown heater does work but the temperature slider doesnt seem to be making contact with anything. . I just feel a bit lost at the moment. Thanks Steve
  17. Hi to all,I have a Lunar Lexon 640,up to 2 weekends ago the water heater was working fine, then all of a sudden it stopped working, water went cold, red led went out on switch, thought fuse had gone,(was told that there is a fuse!!)Went down to van again, fiddled with switch, the led came back on and the unit started working again. Until the next morning when it had blown the trip. Every time now when I press the switch on it blows the trip. Suspected faulty element(450 watt.)Went to caravan dealers and bought new element.(not cheap),went down to fit it this last week-end,but for the life of me I cannot see where it needs to go in on the unit. Can anybody advise me,does the seat unit have to come out? Because the water tank is half hidden underneath and cannot lift the top cover of the unit.
  18. Hi all, I have a small issue with the water heater on 2011 Sterling Eccles Ruby. We picked it up a couple of weeks ago and on our maiden voyage the loo didn't flush. Typical I didn't bring any fuses, I replaced the fuse and all was fine, phew. Another issue we had was hot water. I tested it out but water wasn't heating when heating via electricity. I had it switched on and the temp set to max. Waited for well over an hour, maybe closer to 2, but water was still cold I then tested heating on gas and within a short while water was lovely and hot, enabling Mrs B to wash up Anyone hit this issue before? Just wondering it it might be another fuse issue? (If I could find it of course. .) Many thanks, Graham
  19. Hi, everyone. I hope someone may be able to help me. I recently had a holiday in Cornwall. When arriving on site I had an issue where my Truma Water Heater was tripping my caravan and site RCD. So I used the gas heater successfully for the rest of the holiday. A couple of weeks ago I replaced the electric element ( which seemed to have a short to earth ). The heater now works but only heats the water to warm state. The rating on the housing of the 10L heater states 850w, which is also the rating of the replacement element. Since there are basically on two main parts to the electric heating side of the truma boiler ( the switch and the element/thermostat ) I can only assume that the new part is faulty - i. e. the thermostat. Has anyone had this issue? Can you advise? Thanks Dave ( 2010 Bailey Pegasus 534 )

Still works well. But who washes up in a caravan these days.
  21. You are reading this and hopefully may be able to help advise me or point me in the direction of others that may be able to help. Yesterday we purchased an old Hobby prestige 425 Caravan here in Spain, made in Holland or Germany and is on Spanish plates, in very good condition for the age, well looked after. Never had a caravan before so are giving it a go, very excited. However we have some questions…hundreds really but at the moment advice with one we cant find an answer to online until I came across your site. We don’t have hot water in caravan and want to know if its possible to have fitted a water heater? Either gas or electric, we don’t really fancy boiling saucepans. We have a container under the sink unit free standing to fill with water and a submersible pump which we think we attach to the sink somehow. Can you suggest a better way of obtaining water to make life a little easier? Thank you
  22. Hi Folks. We bought a 20 year old Swift Alouette as our first full size caravan (we had an 1980's esterel folding caravan for years!) Its been really well looked after but spent the last few years not being used so we have a few issues we need to fix before it gets its first of many (I hope) runs! Ok. .... 1. Carver Cascade2 water heater - Its leaking. .. It seems that this arm that goes through the middle of it is broken (we think it had water in it that froze). Has anyone any experiance in fixing one of these? Any ideas on what this part is called and where (online) can I buy one? We never had running water in the esterel so as you can imagine I was so dissappointed to discover this was broken. .. 2. The grey window seals have melted into the windows (at first I thought they had been sealed) I need advice on where I should get new ones cheap. what should I ask for (Do I need to measure?) are they hard to fit by myself (I'm handy at stuff but I have two small babys so my time is limited). Can I get ones that won't melt again? Also I need to replace two arms so. . is there a particular type I should ask for? 3. Electrics - Some of my sockets don't work or trip,,, Could this be a simple replacement fuse? Where do I buy fuses? 4. Gas heater - We would like to be able to use this as we camp on the west coast of Ireland (ALOT) so it will be needed. The Gas control knob has come away from what ever part it should be linked to. .. Is this something I can fix myself? Any advice on it? 5. 24. Has anyone had a problem with the Propex Electric Heater? I fitted one a few months ago to my caravan so I could enjoy hot water in my old caravan. Unfortunatly it has not worked since day one. It will only stay on for about 10 minutes intially and then will trip the caravan electrics. Then it trips constantly. I tried hooking it up via a plug directly to the house electrics and it tripped them as well. Obviously it is faulty but with it being a sealed unit I've no idea why. I guess it'll have to go back to Propex?
  25. Can't get it working. It will light for about 10 seconds then goes out and idea how to get it working. We have done everything by the book.
