  1. New here folks and really sorry if this has come up previously. I have recently acquired a 2010 Swift Challenger 570 which does not come with a spare wheel, something I am not comfortable towing without. I am have an increasingly frustrating time trying to locate something suitable and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions PLEASE Thanks in anticipation
  2. If I left the motor mover connected on the tyre for a day, will this cause any damage to the tyre?
  3. Can someone help me out with finding the definitive method for calculating tyre pressure. Their seem to be a coule of methods and also a couple of variables to take into account. What's the best method? Thanks.
  4. Just to make people aware of this little tyre scam hitting the UK over the next few years probably. Important to keep an eye out. http://carbuying. jalopnik. com/heres-how-scam-artists-make-dangerous-old-tires-look-li-1662458930?utm_campaign=socialflow_lifehacker_facebook&utm_source=lifehacker_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow
  5. My Peg 1 is now 5 years olds so I have been idling some time away on the net trying to find some prices with no success. The load index of the tyre size seems to max out at 102. The tyre size is 185 R14 LI104. Any suggestions where I could find this size gratefully received.
  6. when inflating the towcar tyres do you just put the maximum - on the VW Passat it shows on the inside of the fuel cap "normal" running tyre pressure 32psi all round and then with a picture of 3 people and says 41psi rear and 35psi front - are these the correct pressures for towing the caravan ?
  7. Hi folks, I am running a special offer exclusively for the membership of Caravan talk on the Professional Installation of OKO Premier Puncture Prevention Tyre Sealant: Single installation to 1 Tow Vehicle and Single axle Caravan for just £75* Single Installation to 1 Tow Vehicle and Twin axle Caravan for just £100** (*6 Tyres in Total | **8 Tyres in Total | Fees all inclusive and no VAT to pay!) I am based 10 Minutes from the Cathorpe Interchange so I can be up the M1/M6 or across the A14 in no time and I offer my mobile installation service across the whole of the UK, I can do this by grouping my orders together and traveling to specific areas on specific days, so don't let my base location put you off, I will come to you! In fact let your neighbors and caravanning friends know! My professionally sign written van can install the sealant at your Home, Place of Work, Storage Compound or even on Site! FORGET THE OLD WIVES TALES AND THE TYRE SALESMANS' SCAREMONGERING! Some quick FACTS: OKO Tyre Sealant is the industry leading Puncture Prevention Gel and has been subject to continuous Research, Development and Testing including accreditation from S. E. A. T. O and N. A. T. O. Pre-Puncture Gel, Not Post-Puncture Foam! - Will not damage your wheel or tyre. No restrictions on speed or distance - Some slimes/gels have speed and distance limitations after installation, OKO does not! It offers a product guarantee for the legal lifetime of your tyre! Water Soluble Polymer - easily washed out with water, contains corrosion inhibitors so will not rust steel or degrade the rubber! Can be used in association with Tyron bands and can be used in a TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) equipped vehicle. Never goes hard - Does not degrade, dry out or separate! Even in standing vehicles! Permanent Repairs! - OKO regard the seal to be a permanent seal due to its strength. When subjected to a ‘strength test’ at the Gerotek Test Facility, OKO was compared to a repair plug and a vulcanised repair. In this case, it was shown that the OKO permanent seal was 1. 62 times stronger than a vulcanised repair and 7 times stronger than a repair plug. The tyre industry states that a ‘traditional repair’ defined as a vulcanised repair is permanent. Therefore, the seal made by OKO on-road and off-road can be considered permanent. How many holes will OKO Puncture Free seal using one application? OKO Puncture Free is designed to seal many holes. A small amount of OKO is used to seal a single hole. During Military tests with the British Army, at least 30 holes were sealed in the tyres of a Land Rover. (Extreme Example I know!). More Facts/FAQs and Video Demos on our website: http://www. tyre-5afe. co. uk Not Just Cars by the way - Any pneumatic tyre can be treated with Puncture Prevention Gel from a unicycle to huge Quarry dumper trucks and everything in-between! We have the full range of OKO Tyre Sealant Products including On and Off road variants. Our Advice is free so please feel free to ask!
  8. Hello Everyone I'm Wayne and I live in South Leicestershire. I have caravanned numerous times over the years with my parents all over the UK and I am now looking to purchase my own. In addition to this I'm awaiting for Ben to reply to my Trader request, so hope I can join and contribute to your community and occasionally promote my business installing tyre puncture prevention sealant, which after reading some threads you are aware of! Hoping to join in more very shortly.
  9. I heard somewhere that the Lunar handbooks were incorrect, but just wanted to check if anyone knows if the tyre pressures quoted in the 2011 handbook are correct or not? I looked on the caravan spec section of this site but couldn't find any info on tyre pressures.
  10. just went check preasure in tyres that should be 62psi but my car gauge only goes up to 50psiwhere can i get gauge for caravan thanks
  11. Hi folks, My car's owner manual tells me to use a nose weight of 75kg max, the recommended tyre pressures are :- ( up to 4 persons) 32 psi all round,--- and (full load) - 35 psi front and 39 psi rear. I will have myself, my wife, a couple of medium suitcases and a few odds and ends on board, plus the nose weight of 75 kg. Shall I use the higher tyre pressures stated above ? or do I need to modify them, I'm aware that the rear tyre walls should not flex too much so good advice would be appreciated. many thanks Terry
  12. Being relatively new to caravanning, I'd like some advice on new tyres please. Having read about keeping a close watch on tyre condition and age, I need to replace the tyres on our 2008 Lunar Ariva - these are 185/65 R14 6PR 93/91N. Have done my homework on the markings, what's puzzling is that the websites of the usual suppliers of car tyres only give the option of a load rating of 86 - not surprising, as there are normally four wheels on a car! Do the likes of Kwikfit, ATS etc supply suitable tyres or will I have to go to a caravan service depot - not an issue in itself, it's just that the dealer I've used previously to supply a complete spare wheel is a sixty mile round trip compared to just up the road for Kwikfit! Thanks.
  13. Hi all, I was phoning round for a pair of new 185/70/13 tyres for my 1990 abbey gt516 the other day, and when i told the guy at the tyre place that they would be for a caravan and quoted the load index of my current tyres, which is 86, he said that those are commercial 8 ply tyres, which does make sense due to a van only having 2 points of contact unlike a car etc. However, this is where I become slightly puzzled, because the tyres on my car, 195/65/15, all have a load index of 91, significantly higher than the reinforced 8 plys that my van tyres supposedly are. Is it the case that tyres of a larger rim size automatically have a lot higher index by default than smaller ones, because I'm pretty sure that my 406 doesn't have any kind of commercial rubber fitted to it, unless of course larger rubber is in fact 8 ply as standard. it just seems a little odd that a regular non commercial standard car tyre, albeit of a larger size, can have an index that's 5 points higher in comparison to a smaller diameter commercial tyre.
  14. From the album: How to Change a Caravan Tyre

Here is an infographic on how to change a caravan tyre. The idea of it is, that you can print it out and keep it in your caravan. Stay safe!

  15. Hi, I removed the spare wheel from my pegasus this morning in order to check the pressure and grease the carrier. As I struggled to get the spare back under the caravan using a couple of handy planks as levers I had to take a bit of a rest, upon glancing up muttering there looking at me was the spare wheel of my crv handily sitting on its back door. As I hate the caravan spare wheel and carrier a lot more than I can say here, I started to wonder if it would be safe and legal to use the crv spare as an emergency spare on the van. The CRV tyre is 215/65R16 102H XL 850kg max load, the pegasus tyre is 195R14C 104/102N max load S 900kg N 850kg. (the van MPTLM is 1482kg) It looks as if the wheel will fit although the CRV tyre is a bit wider and about 20mm larger diameter. It would be great if it could be used much like the thin spare wheels some cars have, just to finish the journey at a low speed and get the flat fixed straight away. What do you recon?
  16. Hi I'm new to caravaning and am just having 2 new tyres put on our swift challenger 470 SE (2000 model). I am unsure of the correct tyre pressure for the caravan with 175 R13 C tyres. Some research suggests around 54 psi. ..but if anyone can confirm this. ..it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  17. I have a 2011 Lunar Conquest (Quasar) 544 and since having a full redecorate throughout our house, I've misplaced the owners manual. It will turn up but I need to know the following:- 1. Torque setting for allow wheels? 2. Tyre Pressure? I have a condition which makes me forgetful so your help would be great. I can then print them out and pop it in my toolbag so I dont need to ask again. Thanks very much Andi
  18. Carefully draw a straight line across your rear car window over a low element of the embedded heater. When you look at the front windows of your van in your mirror the bottom of the frame will be parallel to your line. Should a tyre deflate one side of the van will drop slightly and the two will no longer be parallel.
  19. This information from "old hand" appears elsewhere on the forum, but it's pinned it here for easy reference. Where a manufacturer's recommended tyre pressure is not available, this formula will allow you to calculate the approximate tyre pressure for your caravan. MTPLM Kg x (Max tyre pressure in psi / (Max tyre load Kg x Number of wheels)) = Running tyre pressure in psi Example: Single axle so 2 tyres Max tyre press = 65psi (written on the tyre wall) Max tyre load = 600Kg (written on the tyre wall) MTPLM = 950 Kg (see plate on caravan chassis) 950kg x (65psi / (600kg x 2)) = 51. 46psi There is further more useful information on tyres from the link below. http://www. tyresafe. org/tyre-safety/caravan-tyre-safety Gordon.
