I recently suffered an unfortunate caravan disaster, my Truma SE Motor mover gave up the ghost and I was left with the unfortunate choice of either replacing the motor & gearbox on one side (V. Pricey) or re-building the broken unit. I looked around and could not find anybody offering this service so I was left to tackle this myself with my humble engineering ability. There is somebody on eBay offering control box fixing, but my issue was mechanical. The gearboxes are supposed to be riveted closed for life so I was a little hesitant about pulling the old one apart, but I felt that it was worth it financially as I had little left to loose. Anyway, I have successfully completed the task and I now have a gearbox that runs better than before, I also took the opportunity to clean out the motors, fit new brushes and replace any worn bearings and refill with fresh grease. In short I have a gearbox that is now better than new and has been extensively put through its paces recently. I was wondering how many others have had issues with these gearboxes and motors or whether they are generally fairly reliable? I was fairly impressed with the quality of the manufacture and components used so I am guessing failure is rare. I did however find a weak point, this was the cause of my particular failure. My reason for asking is that I am wondering if it is worth offering a repair service for these boxes? I have 'almost' all the photo's of the strip-down and rebuild if anybody is interested. I do not reassemble using rivets though, I used high tensile flat-head hex bolts.
We have had a second hand Truma motor mover fitted on our Elddis Avante 505 (by the dealer we bought the van from) and have not been able to get it to engage/attach to the van wheels. My husband has used a socket turner but no luck. The mover does switch on, but nothing else happens. I have looked on the Truma site for instructions etc but no luck. If we are unable to get it to work, can someone advise us about a service person coming out to us to fix it. ......Southport, merseyside area. Thanks. .....
