My 2014 car’s Satnav has been literally leading me astray for ages and updating it would cost about £200 through a dealership. I thought about getting a cheap Garmin or Tomtom until I read about the Waze app which I downloaded free onto my smartphone. I admit to being sceptical at first, it being free, but I have really warmed to it and it has been really reliable during our long trip around the country this Spring/summer. It gives real-time early warnings of traffic holdups, speed cameras and broken down vehicles on the carriageway, etc, as reported by Waze users. And I’ve saved the cost of a separate Tomtom too.

Once again there is a new updated version of Archies Campings (http://archiescampings.EU/) available on line from today. For those who don't know Archies Campings is a website containing a database of over 33,000 campsites throughout Europe, including the UK Club and commercial sites. These are available as downloads for all types of SatNavs so you can install these campsites as POI's. There is also an App available for smartphones and tablets, which once purchased (modest fee) gives lifetime updates. The website and App also gives separate downloads for Camping Cheque sites (this year only as the available sites can only be used by those who still have credits on their Gold or Silver cards), ACSI Card sites and Best Deal, and Archie has plans to add Camping Key Europe sites if there is enough interest, so please let him know if you think this would be a good idea. In this update there are (as usual) additional campsites, especially in Italy but also in other countries, and other sites have been deleted if they have closed or become residential mobile home sites. If there are any other additions you think would be useful, or if you have noticed anything which needs correcting in the database please let Archie know through the website. Happy Holidays.

Does anyone use Archies Camping (http://www. archiescampings. EU/ - downloadable files of POIs and other campsite information for SatNavs) for finding UK sites? If so, Archie would be very happy to hear from you about any updates, correction of coordinates, changes to site telephone numbers, websites, site closures or openings. .......! He's recently commented that whilst UK users now outnumber those in Holland, he gets very little feedback from UK users about sites in the UK. There is a 'Contact' facility on the front page of the website where you can let Archie know of anything which might not be correct. The database is updated every couple of months and is a labour of love by Archie - and Archie is not a commercial organisation working for profit, but a retired Dutch teacher!

If you have a SatNav of almost any type, and want free updated details of nearly 33,000 campsites throughout Europe, then download Archie's Campings November 2017. Once again a lot of sites have been added, and details of many other sites updated, but as always some sites have closed, so these have been removed from the database. Please send any feedback about information you find, which is incorrect, via the link on the website. An App is also available for a modest fee - and this includes liftime updates.

I have a Tom Tom Start 25 and have been looking at the Tom Tom Europe Camper map. Has anyone used this map and if so, what is your opinion of it? I am reluctant to buy without some sort of feedback as the map is £79. 95 to buy. I also do not want to buy a new device altogether as I have used a Tom Tom for over 10 years and have got used to it and like it. Any response welcome.

Hello, As we have an 8 year old (cheap) Sat Nav in the car that is starting to sloooooooow down, my thoughts are to replace with an App that can either be used on our smart phones, or in offline mode on a tablet (passenger held). With phone technology and the computing power/storage these small devices have and the fact that we (I do) carry them with us constantly, I can't see the need for a dedicated device. Anybody else share this view? I have had a quick look and CoPilot appears popular. Can't decide if to go for Premium Europe at £35, or CoPilot Truck UK + IRE at £90. I don't think I can justify the extra for the truck version (recommended for caravan's). So will just plan ahead and try and manipulate the journey on the standard! Has anybody used CoPilot. .. is it worth it, does it work?? Appears good. .. lifetime ownership across multiple devices when you purchase. Free map updates. Can be used online and offline. Clear display & voices. Application support by ALK Technologies. Views welcome from those who use, haven't or wouldn't Teddy

http://www. bbc. co. uk/news/uk-18840183 With the rise in new technology people appear to be ditching traditional maps in favour of sat-navs and mobile devices. Figures suggest sales of printed road atlases have halved since 2005 and fewer Ordnance Survey maps are being sold.

Tomtom expected to launch a satnav for caravans and motorhomes allowing users to set widths and heights specific for their outfit. http://www. pocketgpsworld. com/TomTom-entering-the-caravan-and-motorhome-market--at-last-9273. php Brian
