  1. I have been away for the weekend and my solar panel controller has stopped working. Has anyone got and recommendations on what to replace it with. My friends also has stopped working almost at the same time as he has the same van but a couple of months older. I am using a cheap replacement at the moment that works fine but the reading from the display are dubious
  2. Hi I’ve recently bought a Willerby Westmorland, 2001, 6 berth and the gas fire was fine when we first used it, but this has changed. The fire now hardly gives any heat out, even on the top setting. We asked the site owner to get out the gas fitter, who changed the gas bottle regulator. This didn’t alter anything, so we mentioned it again. We were told that the fire is not designed to go very high and is doing what it is supposed to, but we can leave it on all day and are still not warm by evening. Are there any other owners that have experienced the same thing or know whether the fires have a regulator that can be altered? I would be grateful for any advice anyone could pass on.
  3. Hi I'm totally new to all this caravan stuff and dealing with an old caravan so please bear with me. I am trying to get the gas working for use with the cooker only. I have switched from Butane to Propane due to the cold weather, the gas is coming through on the cooker but it's very weak. Do I need to change the regulator for Propane? It has a mounted 30 mbar regulator already, new canister and hose. Trying to work out the problem, any advice would be appreciated! Thanks, JP
  4. Hello, I'm a returning caravanner after a 10 year break! I'm rapidly learning that out are the clip on bottle gas regulators (£5 each and £1 to replace the pipe) and in are £20-70 bulkhead regulators, £10-35 pigtail pipes and multiple regulator failures with contaminated gas! I have a Truma EN61-DS regulator fitted, of uncertain manufacture year, but assuming it is original (on my newly purchased 2004 Elddis Avante Xscape) it will be 13 years old and overdue a change at 10 years. My pigtails are 2006 manufactured so will be changed at the same time. Having read numerous posts, it seems that positioning the regulator as high up in the gas locker as possible, burning off gas when leaving a site and installing stainless steel pipes are all winners! I'm going to get myself a new regulator and fit it, but would really like to also re-position as currently it is mounted mid-way up the locker and below the top of the cylinder. Is there an extension pipe (it looks like 8mm) or another easier way of moving the regulator upwards please? Nobby 2004 Elddis Avante Xscape
  5. Yes, that old chestnut again. Out at the weekend, brand new 6kg lite, was fine for the first 2 days and then the gas pressure at the hob dropped off to the point of unuseable. Water and fridge stayed on ok, but as they were at operating temps, maybe they didn't need much to keep them there. When packing up, we turned the water and fridge off and tried the hob again, no change. However, after being home for a few hours and justr prior to posting this I tested the hob again. Same bottle, etc, and now the flames are back to normal. Having a read about it seems 'likely' that we have the old truma reg failure problem. Anyone had the same or similar symptoms? Wheres the best place to get a replacement? Cheers all.
  6. We have a 2006 Sterling Europa 520 from new. It has been regularly serviced. Every now and again over past 5 year, gas has not got through to the oven/hob, then inexplicably starts working again. It works 95% of the time. It may be the microswitch in the hob lid, but there is no rhyme or reason why it should be. We always set up and pack away in the same way. Sometimes, it appears just moving the van sorts the problem. Now its has got to be an issue with me. I have changed the gas bottle and regulator, checked gas is getting to the manifold inside the van, which it is. After that I am at a loss as to why the fridge, space heater, hob and oven will not light. I have been through Forums and read the Haynes manual, but nothing suggests what to do next. Please can you give us some advice and help. Many thanks. John Keith
  7. Hi all, maybe a silly question. I have a 2011 Bailey Unicorn Barcelona and have noticed that there is no yellow tap below the regulator to shut off the gas supply. The regulator is a Clesse type. Is this normal please? The manual states to turn the gas off on the yellow tap below the regulator but I don't have one! Any ideas please?
  8. OK, a grandiose title for a simple gadget! I bought one of those booster packs for the car because I once flattened my battery in the middle of nowhere and had to wait an unfeasible amount of time for the AA – not happening again. So I wanted to charge it and keep it maintained and store it in my boot ready for whenever I needed it. .. I could just plug it directly into a 12v accessory socket but because this battery was very much smaller than my car battery I thought there might be overcharging issues and, of course, if my battery went flat, so would my ‘backup’. So I bought a cheap(ish) solar regulator from Maplins. Hard wired the ‘solar’ terminals to my battery (fused, of course) and the battery terminals to my booster pack. Now when the alternator is running, the regulator thinks it’s getting power from a solar panel and charges/maintains the booster pack as it would do any other lead-acid battery. Booster pack will never be overcharged, never drain if the car battery were to drain and is kept fully charged. It’s also got a 240v inverter and a light so comes in handy when outdoors too. Booster pack, regulator and accessories. £70. Peace of mind from knowing I’ll always be mobile. Priceless.
  9. Friends of ours noticed a gas leak from the locker, its a serious leak coming from the bulkhead regulator, theres a small yellow plug on the side and its spewing gas out, i asumme its a burst diaphram or similar, obviously the bottle s now turned off, the caravan is a bailie senator just turned 5 years, is gas leaks of this bulkhead regulator common, they are trying to contact there usual mobile fitter.
  10. I hear that this option is now available. Anyone seen this on the market?
  11. The latest edition on the Camping and Caravanning Magazine has details of an oil filter. It will be on sale in March 2012 at £70 or £80 Due to the fact that some owners have problems and others do not it is not known how long the replacable filter will last but it is translucent which will allow it to be checked.
