  1. Hi everyone Here we go, post No. 1 As above, is their an alternative to the Whale Pressure Switch for operating the external submersible pump ? See photo. One that will be a direct replacement or a close to as possible. ... would be good. I have seen on the internet some pressure switches made by 'Comet' two types, a simple one and a digital more complex and expensive one. .. has anyone changed out a Whale pressure switch for one of these or any similar units and are they any better than the Whale pressure switch which I find has been a little temperamental and sometimes frustratingly difficult to set right to operate the pump. Any help much appreciated Thanks Bob
  2. I hope someone can help. I have an Abbey 1998 Domino. The problem I had was the water pump was running intermitant. I discovered that the microswitch was burnt out in the Whale pressure valve. I replaced the switch AS5005 and the repair kit with diaphrams etc. Now the pump runs all the time, I even took out the spring etc inside the valve and it still keeps going. I have 3 wires going to it 1. orange and white,2. purple and yellow 3. purple and black. Two of them have small terminals and one has a larger one not quite sure which order they go. If I switch them over nd turn on the pump it blows the 10amp fuse right away. I'm at my wits end now. Any help at all would be brilliant.
  3. Can someone help me out with finding the definitive method for calculating tyre pressure. Their seem to be a coule of methods and also a couple of variables to take into account. What's the best method? Thanks.
  4. I've recently fitted a TyrePal monitoring system to the caravan and was intrigued to see how the pressures and temperature varied. (the tug on order has it as standard for the tug tyres) I understand that pressure & temperature will rise as the tyre is used. So the cold pressure for my tyres is 36psi, after about 2 or 3 miles it had risen to about 42psi with a temperature about 5 deg C above ambient. These figures then remained constant for the next 300+ miles except the temperature of one tyre rose to 37C after a 20 minute stop where it was subject to direct sunlight, but dropped to a more normal (?) figure after a few miles. Now I know that tyres have a stated maximum pressure, but is it temperature dependant as well? As it seems that a number of caravans operate with cold pressures near the stated maximum I can't but help wonder if the pressure rise under normal use is over-stressing tyres in some cases is this leading to premature failure?
  5. when inflating the towcar tyres do you just put the maximum - on the VW Passat it shows on the inside of the fuel cap "normal" running tyre pressure 32psi all round and then with a picture of 3 people and says 41psi rear and 35psi front - are these the correct pressures for towing the caravan ?
  6. I heard somewhere that the Lunar handbooks were incorrect, but just wanted to check if anyone knows if the tyre pressures quoted in the 2011 handbook are correct or not? I looked on the caravan spec section of this site but couldn't find any info on tyre pressures.
  7. just went check preasure in tyres that should be 62psi but my car gauge only goes up to 50psiwhere can i get gauge for caravan thanks
  8. Hi folks, My car's owner manual tells me to use a nose weight of 75kg max, the recommended tyre pressures are :- ( up to 4 persons) 32 psi all round,--- and (full load) - 35 psi front and 39 psi rear. I will have myself, my wife, a couple of medium suitcases and a few odds and ends on board, plus the nose weight of 75 kg. Shall I use the higher tyre pressures stated above ? or do I need to modify them, I'm aware that the rear tyre walls should not flex too much so good advice would be appreciated. many thanks Terry
  9. Folks could do with others thoughts on this one. I've bought a 2005 Sterling Europa 540 and just returned from my first long weekend away with it. The hot water is giving me grief to say the least I fill the water barrel, close the drain tap and turn on pump allowing the on board Truma Ultrastore heater to fill completely then open both the cold and hot taps and wait until all air is expelled and water flowing with no gurgles or glugs. Water seems to heat up just fine but each day I would experience only air and sputtering going on when opening the hot tap. At that time I could open the cold and all seems fine. Plenty of water in barrel and no air entering cold system. Any thoughts please with what could be occurring here would be appreciated . . Cheers John
  10. Hi guys, I'm a bit confused about tyre pressure (yes, the Jeep Commander user manual says something but my car had new tyres which are different). I have Roadstone Roadian AT II (P245/65R17 105s) M+S tyres and I've been reading about what all those codes are. The tyre wall also states Max Load 925kg and At 300kPa [44 P. S. I.] Max. Press. So, what would be the 'right' pressure when driving solo? (2 adults and 2 kids) and also, should I increase the pressure when towing? all of them or just the rear tyres? Thanks!
  11. I have an old (1994)coachman mirage 500/5 can anybody tell me the right tyre pressure thanks
  12. Hi I'm new to caravaning and am just having 2 new tyres put on our swift challenger 470 SE (2000 model). I am unsure of the correct tyre pressure for the caravan with 175 R13 C tyres. Some research suggests around 54 psi. ..but if anyone can confirm this. ..it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  13. Just got new Coachman Pastiche 520/4 and the tyres pressures are much higher than my last two vans at 65PSI. Had to get a new pressure gauge but I'm now finding it's really hard to get any air into the tyres at these high pressures - I'm using a half decent Michelin twin barrel type footpump. Anyone else noticed this with these newer tyres and if so, what type of pump do you use? Thanks, Dougie
  14. I have a 2011 Lunar Conquest (Quasar) 544 and since having a full redecorate throughout our house, I've misplaced the owners manual. It will turn up but I need to know the following:- 1. Torque setting for allow wheels? 2. Tyre Pressure? I have a condition which makes me forgetful so your help would be great. I can then print them out and pop it in my toolbag so I dont need to ask again. Thanks very much Andi
  15. hi all i hope someone can help i've got a 1997 lunar solar. it has an exteral whale high flow pump and a whale prssure switch. crystal filter also fitted. i'm now on my 4th pump! i purchased a reich 19L. after changing the one way cold valve i worked out that the pump was faulty! took it back and puchased a crystal 12l pump. although vastly improved the pressure still wasnt great so i kept this as spare and purchased a whale high flow pump and assembly. this was no better. figured i had another faulty pump so changed it for a new whale high flow. bingo, i had acceptable pressure. however, its not great still. whilst it's useable the kitchen tap is slow and the whale shower head has just about enough pressure - as you raise it above youor head it gets really slow but works. my friend has a longer van with all the same kit and he gets great pressure. Surely I haven't got another faulty pump? Any ideas welcome.
  16. This information from "old hand" appears elsewhere on the forum, but it's pinned it here for easy reference. Where a manufacturer's recommended tyre pressure is not available, this formula will allow you to calculate the approximate tyre pressure for your caravan. MTPLM Kg x (Max tyre pressure in psi / (Max tyre load Kg x Number of wheels)) = Running tyre pressure in psi Example: Single axle so 2 tyres Max tyre press = 65psi (written on the tyre wall) Max tyre load = 600Kg (written on the tyre wall) MTPLM = 950 Kg (see plate on caravan chassis) 950kg x (65psi / (600kg x 2)) = 51. 46psi There is further more useful information on tyres from the link below. http://www. tyresafe. org/tyre-safety/caravan-tyre-safety Gordon.
