  1. Hi all, New member, first question. We’re away at the moment (yes it’s February and there’s a storm coming, I know!). On moving my Bailey Ranger off the drive, my motor mover kept cutting out. It’s done this before when the leisure battery died. I thought it odd because the van had been hooked up to the house for 2 days to top the battery up before travel. When not hooked up I leave a 80 Wp solar panel unfolded and connected inside the van which keeps it topped up during the summer but which struggles in the winter I think. Anyway, we got on the road. When we got to the site and hooked up, the voltmeter was showing just over 13v. It’s crept down a bit with the lights on to 13. I think an hour on the road connected to the car probably put some juice back in. I’m wondering if my charger has died or the ‘kettle plug’ has come out. I’m almost sure it always used to be nearly 14v on hookup! All the other 12v equipment is working fine for now though. Lights, pump etc. When I get home I can put a voltmeter across the battery terminals with the battery out and the van hooked up to measure the voltage. But I’m sitting here wondering, and just thought I’d ask. Any thought appreciated. Thanks Trevor
  2. New to the site so bear with me, quick question.... We have purchased a 2012 Bailey Rimini and it has a solar panel fitted but I can’t get the display unit to power up, it’s a CMTD unit, I purchased another one on EBay as they are pretty cheap and a straight swap over and also to see how we got on with it and if we used it more I could look at upgrading. Does anyone have this model and could tell me if the display is on all the time, I suspect it’s not getting power as the USB is not powering and has no display even when trying to switch on. Ive tried the inline fuse and checked the connections to the battery, thinking of running a complete new feed to the battery to check and see what happens. anyone got any ideas what else I can check? thanks
  3. Hi I am having problems both with my Kipor Generator and trying to get it serviced! The machine will not start. I have checked Plug, Fuel and Oil. Does anyone know anyone who will repair/service a Kipor as near as possible to Conwy.
  4. Just found this on t'interweb. It's an excellent description of solar panels, charging and controllers . https://www. youtube. com/watch?v=KPZhtGLfGn4#t=381. 20088 The same firm has a series of videos which are quite informative and demonstrate some of the queries that crop up
  5. Hi Everyone, There was a car radio in my caravan when we bought it, but they removed it when they sold, and we never replaced it. .. until now. I found a really good stereo with remote and decided to fit it in again. I plugged the battery charger (with no battery) into the 240v just to get some power, all the lights were working and everything was fine. I then turned on the radio, it came on, then all the lights went out and the radio intermittently came on and off (but not long enough for it to be used). I then tried turning out all the 12v lights and the stereo on its own, but it wouldn't come on at all. Turned on one light then the stereo whilst looking at the needle indicator on the battery charger unit, the lights drew very little, then when the radio was plugged in, the needle was flicking from one side to the other. There's been a radio in there before, so it's clearly possible. Do I need to have the battery in place, is there a wiring thing I need to do? The caravan is a sprite compact (early 1980's) and I think the wiring has been done after (certainly the 240v). There is 12v power going to the stereo, and it is coming on, but maybe there's a problem with the battery charger? The stereo is a sony, quite modern MET BT3900U has cd, bluetooth, usb - is it just drawing to much power for the caravan to cope with? Is it maybe a dc/ac thing? My knowledge is limited for carvan electrics, so it may be me doing somthing stupid and not realising. I'll try taking some pictures of the setup later. Thanks in advance. ..
  6. Hey guys. I was just wondering. What voltage and AH of leisure battery will I need to run 2 150w CFL bulb for 15 hours a day? Thanks
  7. I know a few people have been looking out for a supply of reasonably priced 12v cigarette lighter to USB power adapters. I have purchased a couple of the items below and other than not fitting in all sockets they are fantastic. Even charges my ipad fast. No overheat or noise issues either. Been using a couple of these in two cars for a few months now. At £2. 34 each they are reasonably priced also. see ---> http://www. hobbyking. com/hobbyking/store/__63245__HobbyKing_8482_Double_USB_Car_Charger_Adapter. html
  8. A Couple of weeks ago we went away and I noticed that the Blue Power Light on the fridge was flashing, then constant, then flashing etc. .. The error on the display shows (Spanner) 10 which looking into informs me to check power from the Towing Vehicle. I have checked in the car and I can hear the relay in the back switching off and on in time to the fridge light problem. Where might the problem be. To be honest I have not checked if the relay still does the same when the van is not connected (I'll do this tonight) but will the Relay even do anything when a van is not connected? Any ideas or things I should check. I know when I first had the Towbar and Socket fitted, the engine note changed when the van was connected which I gather is the current draw on the alternator but it no longer does this either. Is there a switch or reset I need to check on the Van power panel or anything like that? I have a 2010 Lunar Conquest (Quasar derivitive) Any advice would be great before I resort to the Bar fitters (Cant find the receipt ) Thanks Andi
  9. With so much wind available in the North has anyone considered one like this? http://www. navitron. org. uk/product_detail. php?proID=193&catID=69 I use a Rutland myself when near the coast.
  10. I have to park my caravan right up against a wall at home which means that I then cannot access the battery box / power inlet. To get the caravan into position requires quite a bit of manoevering using the motor mover, which takes a lot out of the battery. This gives me problems after a few weeks when the battery charge is insufficient to run the alarm system (which lets me know by making loud clicking noises!). I would like to install a second mains input socket inside the van so that I can charge the battery without moving the van. I'm very much aware that if I just connect it to the other socket, then the socket which is not in use would be live when the other socket is connected. I've seen 'transfer switches' for sale which would allow me to isolate the other socket but these seem rather expensive. Is there any cheaper alternative solution ?
