Well I've done it! I've just had my first solo trip in the new van with only my dog, Tommy, for company. I appear to have remembered to pack everything (well nearly) and Tommy seems to have taken to caravanning. I did not take to having to make my own cup of tea when I had set the van up. I also managed to erect my new Kampa Pro porch awning by myself although I did have help taking it down just before the big winds hit. Here's to more trips out.

This last weekend was a little unusual in that a neighbour has decided to try caravanning. We and another friend offered to buddy them for the first trip. He had used a caravan decades ago and his SWMBO had never been in one. Not one to mess about, he’s got a new Swift Conqueror and a Range Rover sport to tug it so towing was not going to be a problem. All credit to Swift and the dealer van was also perfect with everything working as it should. Now going with an absolute beginner as it were makes you look at things differently. During the weekend a couple of things happened

After what felt like an age we've finally taken delivery of our new van, a Swift Expression 626 EW and really can't wait to get away and use it. We picked it up last Saturday, a little worried about the strong winds but we needn't have worried because our Audi Q5 towed it beautifully and after about 1. 5 hours we finally got to put it into our storage site (much harder to secure a slot than I imagined!) and there it will probably sit until we finally get some better weather to finally enjoy it. . Booked a local trip in April and two weeks in Spain at the end of July so at least will

It does not matter what make / model of van we discuss far too many reports are of new vans with problems that should have been picked up by the Dealer PDI which I remind you we are are paying for. So how about we formulate a written expectation form that can be presented to the dealer. I envisage something as follows :- PDI inspection and hand over. I have reasonable expectations of the condition that my new van will be in when I am told it is ready for collection. The following is a list of things that I will be either checking or expect to see up and running. All are items th

Bad news for us at our last van service; the roof vent it seems has been badly fitted and me being a relatively high mileage caravaner has resulted in cracks, water ingress and damp. ... So, I've decided to bite the bullet and trade in for a new Olympus II 620 - 6 I could have had the damp fixed, but what was bothering me was that I would then constantly paranoid that my other roof vents have been badly fitted as well, and I'd be worried that at each service I would be getting another large bill. Originally we bought the van second hand, to try out caravanning to see if we liked i
