  1. Hi all, We're a couple (together with our grumpy, ginger cat!) who are complete novices when it comes to caravanning. Fairly spontaneously we purchased our first ever caravan earlier this month as part of some wild plan to live in our caravan and motorhome full time. We are recording our grand adventure on our Wild Hippies blog (including all our misadventures, which seem to be many at the moment) and have joined Caravan Talk as it looks like it has a very helpful community who may be able to assist in times of need! Thanks, Alice, Bob & Charlie!
  2. Hi guys, My friend, his family and I are currently planning a caravan trip to Europe for an undetermined amount of time. We are all living in Ireland at the moment and in the last week or so have started looking into prices for both a car and caravan. From the looks of photos online we think a four-berth caravan should suit us size-wise. At the moment we are thinking of Spain as a first destination but might do some travelling around Ireland to get to grips with everything before leaving. I have found some great information on the caravan Talk index but if anyone could spare some time for some more general advice, things to bear in mind, and maybe some of the biggest pitfalls to look out for that prospective caravan owners encounter that would be great. As you can probably tell I'm very new to this area so any advice is appreciated. Thanks and have a good day.
  3. Hello, Just joined after lurking since August 2018 when we bought our Folding Caravan, a Gobur Carousel 12/2T, known as Gobby. I'm interested in adding a couple of electrical sockets to Gobby and have found 2 threads on the Forum. I see that the use of flexible cable, rather than the domestic twin & earth, is recommended - would this be the 1.5mm cable and protected by a 5 amp fuse [or a fused spur]? I'd be grateful for any advice. TIA. Steve
  4. Hi, My name is Dave and my wife's is Angela. We live in Staffordshire. We are just at the stage of thinking about swopping from a large 8 person Berghaus Air Tent to a 4 berth caravan. We are in our late 50s and are looking for advice on what to buy as our first van and more importantly, what to look out for. We will be using a Land Rover Defender Td5 as a tow car. We have a budget of around 5K. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. Hello All, It's nice to be part of this community! I have just moved to a new home in Plymouth, and on our land we have an old Pemberton Static Caravan - its a large static, and although it was much loved by the previous owners of this house - an elderly couple - we are now looking to give it to someone on this site to restore or spruce up as we need to clear the land where it currently sits. In terms of its condition, it is a little sad, but structurally it is sound - I have examined the underside, all of the woodwork is solid and in good condition, the insulation is still in tact all around and all of the windows are fine - along with doors etc. There is a twin pull-down in the living room wall, a twin room, toilet area, kitchen, living room with additional bunk space in the lounge bay window seating. The underside has two rails with an axle and wheels - these are rusty and no longer of any use, but the static caravan is up on blocks and access underneath is easy. It has all of its original decor - mattresses, kitchen items, lamps, heater etc. I am looking for someone who wants to come and take it away, and I am not looking for any money or to sell it, simply to pass it on to someone who will care for it and bring it back from being sad to being rad! Any interested parties let me know! K.
  6. Hi we are currently looking into our first Caravan, we are campers and have done so for the past 5 years. We love Beach side sites and currently struggle with some Squal or freak winds that appear on some of the exposed sites and flatten tent (no damage just a pain whilst inside tent) so its time to move on to a Caravan. We have both enjoyed caravaning as children. We are a family of four, me, my wife, our 7 year old, and 3 year old rotti-cross. so are in the market for a 4 Berth van. I have towing experience from large tractors to very large vans so look forward to towing again. My wife has no towing experience as yet but is very willing to learn. We both Own Land Rovers and are Land Rover nuts for our sins. Richard and Zena.
  7. Hello to everyone, just joined today after another member we met last weekend told me it’s a great place to become a member of with some great information available, and I’m looking forward to picking some brains and getting some recommendations from the members! We’ve been caravanning for over 30 years now, began with a little Thomson T-line which at the time I remember was ridiculously heavy to tow, but we had many enjoyable trips all around Scotland before changing to a twin axle Adria, due to the arrival of children, again heavy but a fantastic caravan with the best heating system I’ve ever had in a caravan. Sold the Adria after a few years and bought a Lunar Delta twin axle 530/5 which just had the best layout for kids, 3 different sections with tables in them was bliss! After my relative borrowed it and damaged the rear panel the van was never the same so traded it in for a Hobby which was nice, but very large to tow, and after only 2 years’ worth of holidays it was stolen from a caravan storage facility where we kept it. After the shock of this event we decided to downsize and get something we could store at our property and ended up with a single axle Elddis Firestorm 520/4 which we kept until the children were passed caravan holiday age. We sold it and bought an Adria Adora 532 UP which has been a great buy, but with the recent additions of grandchildren, we decided that we needed more room again so just purchased a well looked after Bailey Senator Louisiana which is really nice. Anyway, before I blether anymore, we will be selling our beloved Adria Adora soon (which the wife is already having second thoughts about), and I wondered if there is anywhere that I can post it for sale on the Caravantalk website?, it will make a great buy for someone looking for a very well equipped, 4 berth, fixed bed, easily towable caravan. Thanks, Iain
  8. Hello folks, Enjoying life outdoors and (time permitting) sharing info on camping, canoeing, kayaking, bushcraft & survival equipment, prepping, kit reviews/tests. Only recently acquired the van so we will see how things go. Lots of outdoor experience but absolutely none with a caravan, well, apart from a short holiday in Cornwall decades ago that is No doubt I will be asking some questions of you all in the very near future. Found this forum as a result of a Google search and it would appear to be an excellent resource so decided to join. ATB Mac

  12. Hey All, Just joined, had various vans over the years. Currently upgrading to a ELDDIS CRUSADER SUPERCYLONE can't wait for it to arrive, should be middle of April. Has anyone else got one. I try and get out to a different part of the country each year, after doing a lot of the South in recent years, we have decided to do Northumberland as it must be 15 years since i have been up there. Can anyone recommend any good sites up there as well as things to see and do? Hope to get lots of help on here as well as offer my help as and when i can. Once little thing i can help with is i have just found some Vuplex polish on EBay going really cheap its only £11. 49 delivered to your door for the big bottle, you normally pay 20 quid if being in a shop that stocks in. http://www. ebay. co. uk/itm/VUPLEX-Plastic-Cleaner-amp-Anti-Static-Polish-LARGE-375g-445ml-Acrylic-Perspex-/112297839071?ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT I have used it for a few years and its great on any plastic surface. Apologies MODS if i am not supposed to post about this but i am just trying to be helpful, please move post if not in right place! Thanks Benny
  13. Hi, was caravanning 30yrs ago, vans were very basic then, no heating, electricity fridge etc. Have just bought a 14yr old twin axle tourer on a seasonal site, we are going to try it for a year and if we like it may well upgrade to a newer one. Rod
  14. Hi everyone - I'm a complete newcomer to Caravanning. Hope to take delivery of my brand new Unicorn 3 Cadiz early in the New Year and promise not to be a pest by posting unnecessary questions. I'm sure there will be lots of help required however.
  15. Caravan Bailey Pageant S7, Monarch, year 2009. Tow car Ford Seira Hatchback 2. 0 ltr TCDI, year 2006.
  16. Hello all, I'm new to the forum and new to caravanning. We have just purchased a Bailey Senator Camargue, a 1998 model for myself and my young family. I don't plan to tour with it too much and we have a seasonal pitch already booked. We haven't collected the caravan as of yet. Please be gentle, I am a novice so knowledge is very limited. Matt
  17. New member and new to caravanning, been retired for over 6 years and am planning to . ..do a tour of the Scottish highlands starting from Nottingham up around Glasgow and mainly A82 past loch Lomond - fort William- along Loch Ness to Inverness and swing around to the east and down the eastern side via Aberdeen and eventually A1 and home. I have bought a cheap 1993 Swift Silhouette pulled by my 2006 Citroen Xsara Desire 1. 6L. I realise this is a big undertaking but not new to towing due to military experience but new to caravanning. Plan to resell the caravan after this trip as it seems the cheapest way to fulfil my ambition at a reasonable cost Would welcome any advise on route and possible stops from more seasoned campers. Is the A82 a towing friendly route??
  18. Now my husband has at last retired we have decided to join the touring clan. We have just purchased a Fleetwood Colchester 1500/2EB 1992 and love her to bits. We have found great storage facilities and are ready to go except, we do not understand the operating panel built into the lounge system at all. We have no booklets or paperwork whatsoever with the van and are new to this game. Does anyone have a diagram we could follow. Would be grateful for any assistance in this matter. Obviously we know we can switch to three systems just do not know which switches to press. Thank you in anticipation.
  19. Hi only started touring in April, 3 trips so far next one Wareham end of September hope weather is good then!!
  20. Hi, We are changing our 'van from an Abbey to a Lunar which has a fixed bed. Been caravanning now for 6 years but little touring mainly stayed on one site. Now though we are off. ...
  21. Hi all, I am the proud owner of a 1999 Abbey Spectrum 418 and although it is a few years old it is great condition with just a few problems; hence my joining this forum for help! Hopefully if I list the things I need help with some of you will kindly give me a steer on how to fix the problem! Carver 4000 - On electric: Slider position 1 - It does not blow cold air. Slider position 2 - It does not blow war air and there is an orange light on the slider position 2. Slider position 3 - the fan only ticks over and there is no heat. Slider position 4 - it blows heat but the heater just does its own thing and only blows after being on for 5/10 minutes. After a few minutes on full it goes back to a tick over which can hardly be heard. It works on gas although the blower doesn't turn over on any settings. Anyone have an idea on a diagnosis? As for other problems it seems to be bang on so I have done well!!! I just would like some pointers on the blow air heating system please! Thanks in advance. Nigel.
  22. Hi, we have just bought our first ever caravan. A slightly damp swift dinette diamond. Any advice is very welcome.
