  1. Hi everyone. Just bought my first caravan today and need to get the following asap wheel locks hitch locks leg winder (urgent) leisure battery ive looked in Halfords and they hardly have anything for caravans. There is a local firm to me in Buxton but don’t have all I need. Can anyone tell me where I can get this stuff today within say 50 miles of Buxton. I’ve Googled but it’s all online sales
  2. Hello members , On my Bailey 2000 Ranger series I notice that my leisure battery is only being trickle charged by a cheap Halfords charger plugged into a socket in the caravan ....what am I missing or what may be wrong ....I know this is not how it should be rather it is obviously a cheap fix or bypass . Thank you in advance . Barry Sullivan
  3. Good morning. I have a Castleton 2D Romer (1990) 2 Berth and I am a rank novice at Caravaning. The van has come with a Leisure battery which is apparently new but I am unsure as to how to charge it when it is connected, in its housing, in the van. If I plug the van into the mains (either by hook up or at home from the house supply) will this charge the battery ? Or is it only charging when on the road with the selector switch on to 'vehicle'. It is currently discharged and I am considering getting a trickle charger and keep the bat
  4. Hi, Looking for some help with switching our water heater from gas to electric (leisure battery) as we are not sure how to do it. Is there a switch to do this? We have a Coachman Amara 500/5 2000. We have no hot water currently. Any suggestions appreciated.
  5. Hi All. Hoping for some help with wiring etc on the van. Its a series 1 unicorn valencia. I have issues with the leisure battery going flat. I have found the tracker and its 2 batteries. The lithium battery is at 6VDC so had it, the dry cell alarm battery is at 10VDC so not good and is dragging the leisure down i suspect. I would like to remove the tracker and its batteries, I have got a TK104 to install and would like to instal this along with the alarm and I am going t use it to remote start the alde heating. However on unplugging te tracker, I find the alarm doesnt work, the un
  6. About this time last year I ordered my first caravan, a Unicorn 3 Cadiz. I then started to scan forums, especially CT, to get myself caravan-savvy (thank you for your collective knowledge). My garage slowly filled up with all sorts of things, from a torque wrench to steps that won't sink into a muddy field. A lot of the larger items were ordered from the caravan dealer, including a 110AH leisure battery. In March we took delivery, and so started a lovely few months drifting around. Okay, there were a couple of minor problems: 'fridge unplugging every 1500miles; 'fridge door trays neede
  7. Hi everyone, First time caravan owner, trying to restore an Abi Ace Jubilee Globetrotter 1988. Have repaired the more urgent of the major leak damage. Now I'm stuck on some problems with the 12v electrics. At first the 3 way fridge would only work on 240v or from the car battery while towing, gas won't ignite (it did before), and it won't power from the leisure battery. Fuses at zig board all look fine. I tried to start troubleshooting and thought I would start at the little junction box just beyond the leisure battery to confirm that there was 12v coming off the battery (I kn
  8. This seems the ideal thread to ask the question. ..... I recently bought our 1st van and have had it connected permanently on the drive. ... (During repairs) Had our 1st outing and all is 'cushty' no probs with the electrics at all. ... Upon return home re attached to mains feed from house. .. And after the immediate clean left it still plugged in. ... Went in to change the power switch on the fridge (didn't illuminate, but does now!) ;-) and found the battery meter was reading in the RED. . Upon putting a meter on the battery, found it was discharged. ..8. 6v (new battery as
  9. We are very new to caravanning and will be visiting a site shortly that doesn't have an electric hook up. We have a 2013 Bailey Ancona and I'm wondering how long the battery will last and whether I can use my car to recharge it. I've read that the 'van has a battery charge so presumably the battery is charged when we are on the move. Can I just fire up the car each day and top-up the battery? Thanks in advance!
  10. Hi, We're new to caravanning after being washed out in our tent this May half-term. We have picked outselves up a nice little Sprite caravan (small but 4 berth and in general good condition). However, it does not have a leisure battery so I am looking to buy one. But there are so many options, what would be best for the above caravan (less than 4. 5m in length, supports 12v and 240v, heating is gas, dual power fridge, going to install a cassette toilet). Would 75/85ah be enough? Would be using battery only on short trips in certified small sites. Thanks, george
  11. I have a Swift Sundance 630L motorhome 2006. It's been a nightmare to own due to the previous owner/s fiddling with home made additions. Gradually I have managed to put this back to how it was when it left the factory which includes: New water pump, New Numax Van Battery and Leisure battery New Clutch New Air Conditioning Unit I took it to the New Forest this weekend gone to a site that did not have electric hook up. The control panel at home said it was fully charged when I pressed "L" on the control panel. It was plugged in to the mains though. When I arrived on
  12. Hi, My daughter has just purchased a 1989 caravan, with appears not to have a buit-in charging system. Two questions really:- 1 -Will the battery still charge from the tow car ? 2- What would be the best, budget installation - she has only bought the van to see how she likes caravanning and to get used to it, so we don't want to go overboard at first. I've seen units on e-bay for around £40, which are supposedly smart units, which can be constantly connected to maintain the battery. - Anyone have experience of these units? would they be suitable? Any help much appreciated
  13. Hi can some one advise me on a battery issue that i have. I live in Germany no where near a dealer for a new leisure battery and the one i have has gone kaputt. I can get a car battery (not sure ) Im due to go away tomorrow for the easter weekend, Im going to a site with EHU. I don't want to pay for a car battery as I'm not sure if it would last as long as a decent leisure battery but can i use just EHU on my van without a battery in place. Advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Phil
