  1. Hey, so back in may i came agross a caravan which was old and was starting to show its age, as they wanted a quick sale I got it for a steal! Ive managed to repair and replace most of what I needed to, I am gradually getting there with it all but the electrics are really starting to annoy me, I can’t seem to get it to work, but I also know nothing about electrics or how any of it works, so I have no idea what I’m doing wrong or if it’s broke, I’ll attach photos of the set up, the one thing making me think the zig panel is okay is that the light works? I was led to believe if I’m running it on mains then I don’t need a battery, (which I didn’t think was right because I thought the battery completes the circuit?) at at the moment the plugs and lights aren’t turning on, haven’t got the water pump plumbed in (manly because I have no idea how 😂) any ideas tips tips or just advice would be great! Thank youuu https://www. flickr. com/photos/165172217@N08/
  2. Hello Complete Newbie here, I am trying to install a new Reich Kama Mixer tap to my caravan. Seems very simple. .. 1. Put tap and wires through hole 2. Use ring to secure tap to work surface from below. 3. Attach wires for microswitch 4. Push fit connectors to hot and cold spigots 5. Push fit connectors to hot and cold water pipes 6. Turn on pump and hey presto. ... water pour out of the top of the push fit connectors Have tried. .. Ensuring push fit connectors are driven all the way home on the spigot Spigots are separated far enough to allow push fit connector to go over lip on spigot Buying new push fit connectors Buying new tap So I've changed all the components I can think of and still get water pouring out. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Richard

  6. First of all, I would like to say hello to everyone in this forum. I became a member just because I love the idea to become a "motorhomer" although I am a bit lost how to do it. I know the first step - buying a motorhome, however I just wanted some information about everything to bear in mind in terms of cost, driving, parking, legal regulation. . . before doing that. I am currently based in Liverpool and I will move on down south to Tonbridge in a couple of months, so I hope to find some people who love and are involved in this kind of life over there. Thank you very much for the opportunity given in "Caravan Talk" in order to become familiar with this sort of camping and travelling.
  7. We've recently bought a brand new Lunar Clubman SI to replace our old Swift Challenger. Unfortunately, the after sales service from our dealer is really awful, and they are most unhelpful. We noticed an on/off switch on the rear outside end of the right hand front bench seat, close to the Power unit, but we have absolutely no idea what it actually does, despite trying it with numerous combinations of lights etc. Can anyone enlighten me please? Thanks
  8. Hi I've had an email from rellies in New Zealand looking for information. They saw a friends 2003 Bailey And noticed the front windows were covered in crazing ( this could be seen from the inside but not when outside ) the van was closed up over their summer and not used because the friends husband had died. Any ideas what might have caused this ? He would like to know as its to cost $ 5000 to replace the three front windows . And wants to avoid this happening to his van as well as being able to advise their friend. Anyone heard of this before ?
  9. Hi Me and my partner brought our caravan in Feb this year. . The owner of the site moved our van, reversed it and hit some concrete, which broke one of the feet off. .. (which wasn't a big deal, brought new feet!!) but still - wasn't happy! However, when we then tried to move the van and wind the legs up, we noticed that the jack couldn't reach the bolt (IM HOPING THIS WILL MAKE SENSE TO SOMEONE OUT THERE! NOT EXACTLY SURE WHAT IM ON ABOUT!) So, after getting underneath and having a look, it seems, where the leg attaches to the bar at the top which then attaches to the caravan, it has been pushed upwards a little so its slightly out of place. It hasnt gone through the bottom, and you can still wind the legs using a spanner (Which is very time consuming but not a problem for us) But now we want to sell the caravan, so we need to try and get this fixed - ideally ourselves without taking to a shop!! So, does anyone have any experience of this? Of the problem? Of what could resolve it? I was looking at new legs, but the leg isn't bent, its fine, so i'm not sure if a new leg would fix the problem. Alternatively, can the 'top bar' be purchased which attaches the leg to the caravan? Sorry, I'm sure this will make some people laugh and will be confusing to others!!  Hopefully i've made it clear enough to get some advice! Thanks in advance!!!

  11. We bought this caravan and tried it at home and found that the pump was really noisy, so we took it back to suppliers and they ordered the Whale Watermaster pump for us as the other one is now obsolete. It's all fitted and we have had the caravan back here to get used to all the modern conveniences, having had a 15 year old van. Low and behold the pump is still very noisy. ...right a question here and hopefully someone can tell us where we are going wrong. This is how we get the water up and running. ... Fill water hog Attach filter to waterhog Plug into caravan inlet Open the sink tap in bathroom Turn on the pump and wait until water runs freely, on hot and cold settings. Then turn the taps on in the kitchen area and run water same as the shower. The pump is very noisy and we have used a decibel sound app to see how loud it is. We have drained the system off and then tried running the pump dry. ...and that runs a lot quieter and we can put up with that. But we just don't know if it's something that we are not doing correctly as our other van had an out door pump, so we are not sure about this. We have read other reports on here about noisy pumps in Bailey caravans, so is this something we just have to put up with, or is there a remedy. Your help would be much appreciated in this, as the noise is driving us crazy. See attached photos decibel reading, is this normal.
  12. Hi. Am thinking about getting a caravan. Was going to go for a static until I found out the site fees for where I wanted were nearly £5k a year and not sure if that is worth it. I am therefore considering getting a tourer but want to be convinced it wont be a 5 minute wonder. Have never had one before so grateful of any advice. Would have to keep it in storage as no drive so not sure if that would be a hassle as well Things like getting used to towing, auto or manual gearbox, using the on board toilet etc etc Thanks in advance Steven
  13. I purchased a replacement remote from Sargent for a 2005 Bessacarr 550GL. It arrived with instructions on programming which entails finding the pir sensor. I have been over the van with a toothcomb but cannot find this PIR sensor! can anybody enlighten me as to where Swift hide this PIR? tia paneuro

  15. Hi, when I plug into the car, the lights come on and everything working fine until I drive down the road and they come on and off, is there some way of removing water or moisture from the plugs, don't seem to be a loose wire in the plug
  16. Please help! Some 2 months ago, I took delivery of my lovely new Pegasus GT65 Verona, a few days before we set off on our 4 (and a bit) week touring holiday. The biggest problem I experienced was getting the nose weight down to the limit of 75kg. I drive a Skoda Superb 2. 0 140 PS TDi ( a slightly high ratio, I know) with a Skoda fitted tow bar -hence the 75kg When I first checked the nose weight (using a Milenco gauge), the figures were over 100kg!!! And I like to think I've got a reasonable idea of how to load a caravan. Putting items like the power cable and awning in the rear bathroom brought the figure down (AND I know that's not good practice) but not low enough. I carry next to nothing in the front lockers; I have only 1 gas cylinder fitted; I have a motor mover fitted forward of the wheels. Inside, nothing under the front beds and only clothes in the storage cupboards. Anybody else had the same issue and, if so, what did you do? Or am I just not seeing it???
  17. Hi again! I'm testing out everything on my van and have came across a snag. I'm hoping it has a simple solution. The water in the taps of the bathroom of my van is flowing at a good rate/pressure with a good temperature, but the tap in my kitchen flows at a trickle. Any suggestions? It's a 1999 Bailey Pageant Moselle. Cheers Scott
  18. Hi I'm new here was looking help. I been caravaning long long time right first time out in new to us a 2006 elddis avante 556. 6 berth. Water stopped working after first day: then noticed cd etc not working leisure battery was flat fully charged on arrival. I had the switch at door on 12v instead of master. But no 12v stuff will work on master not even status Ariel. Checked all fuses etc. All ok van was serviced by dealer although I bought private few months ago. Surely pump should work even on mains hook up or is it something else was I too hard on 12v and didn't know or has anyone one of these vans pump checked and Woking fine I must have switches or something wrong I've tried everything first time I've been beat lol
  19. Newby help, last June we bought a Avondale osprey 2005 1 owner from a very nice man around the corner !!! it appeared to be in mint condition with a new awning . paid a little over 5K for it, with service history, so what could go wrong. .. so we where happy as pigs It was a very nice summer last year & we had 4 or 5 outings in the van. When winter came we put it to bed on the drive all was well. a few weeks ago we thought we would get the van serviced read for our first trip of the year at Easter. We looked at the services records & thought we would use the same company that the previous owner used last year which he was last Saturday . On arrival he did not remember the van until we told he where we got it . Then it all came flooding back , yep, this is the one with serious damp problems. .............................................. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. ... he told us 000he had told the then owner it was almost not repairable £££££ & his report would bear this out, but they never gave us the report, they had removed it from the service sheet. So sold it to us knowingly that it had damp problems. on his inspection this time he found it to be as bad as last time, down each side of the van up to 80% in places. . WHAT IS MY NEXT MOVE. HAS ANY ONE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM. ...DID YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK PLEASE HELP
  20. Hi everyone. A friend has been gifted a substantial caravan which, although quite old, is structurally sound (apart from a very small leak in the roof). Since my family and I started caravaning more years ago than I care to remember, I have wanted to get my hands on something like this to redesign and 'glam up'. I am hoping that you guys might be the people to turn to for advice on lots of issues we are currently coming up against. Look forward to speak to you soon

  23. Hiya I was hoping for some help to try and work out what is wrong with my caravan (water pump/taps and voltage meter) and how to fix it please. . I have a Swift Compass 2000 model 4 berth. Everything has been working up until recently. First I noticed that the kitchen tap stop working (I assumed it was the micro switch) and so to make the water pump work would have to turn on the bath room tap. After a while the bathroom tap stopped working (again I think because of the micro switch) so I was using the shower to turn on the water pump. Now none of the taps or showers work (I could assumed the micro switch has gone on all of them) But there is something else thats happened. .. The voltage meter on the caravan says 0 volts! There is still power in the caravan though as all the lights, igniters are working. This is where I am confussed. ... I also noticed that once the kitchen tap seems to be broken in that before to select hot or cold you would turn the leave left or right. It has gone really loose and just spins around completely now. .. I have checked for loose connections to the battery (all ok) I have unplugged the whale water pump from outside (Still no voltage) I have checked the fuse box to see if anything has fused out (all working) I have unplugged the kitchen tap from the 12v power (no voltage still) I have bought a new whale water pump to replace exisitng one incase this is an issue (not arrived yet) I really don't know what to do next, I don't know if this is one problem or 2 problems. I'm a bit of a newbie working with caravans so any help or advice would be appreciated. .. Thank you very much. Tom
  24. Hi folks. I was given a static caravan by a local dealer to live in on site while I do a self build. I spoke to someone else who had done this, and they recommended putting boards around the sides. I have done this now, as well as stapling bubbling wrap to the underside to try and keep heat in, and cold out over the winter. However, the past two days have been horrendously windy and wet, and wondered if the boards improve things, or are they likely to cause damage to sides of the van when they get buffeted by the wind? Any advice will be gratefully received. Thanks.
  25. Hi All, A small intro to myself, name is Haych. Due to my personal circumstances changing, I have bought a caravan and have decided to live in it for a few months atleast. I have no experience in caravanning (if that is even a term) so require assistance and help from other experienced members. I have bought a Mardon Dalesman 5 Berth 1991 caravan, everything worked and it was for a good price but no preference otherwise. I have a Land Rover which is sufficent to tow but am getting used to reversing the caravan with it as it seems to go where ever it wants but I'm getting there. I am currently staying around the North East London area so if there is anybody else living permanently in this area, I would love to get in touch. I am not too aware of how the law works with just parking anywhere for the night, so far I have found some decent spots and have just stayed there without any problems. I might even be in the wrong forum alltogether so any direction to the right place will be much appreciated too. Cheers Guys. .
