Hi all, first post and looking for recommends please. We plan to upgrade our 1990s compass to a new fixed bed model but have been struck with how few manufacturers appear to cater for taller caravanners (I'm 6' 2"). Any other lofty members out there who have found their perfect caravan bed? Many thanks.

I got to thinking the other day about the general squeeze on everyone's money not least of all when it comes to the towing of caravans and what the manufacturers are doing as their bit in the greater scheme of things. We have just entered the world of statics on an 11month site,it is a static that will accommodate all year round occupancy and is fully double glazed and has wet central heating. It is indeed a mini bungalow. The intention is to find a studio flat or similar for later life but in our own time of looking rather than regretted hasty decisions. This could bring about the "letting go" of our tourer and spending a little more time in our static with the Winter away in Spain or Malta. In the Elddis stables there is not a twin axle caravan that is light enough with a lateral Island Bed,indeed the current Avante 624 whilst a very nice tourer it has the fixed NS bed and the full width rear wash-room. The Island bed and separate loo&wash-room with a separate shower cubicle is in my opinion is a far better deal for the "Older Caravanner" or for those of us that have difficulty in one form or another and would very much benefit by not having to go climbing in the Wee Small Hours. We all have our preferences as to which side of the bed is the more acceptable/comfortable. The lateral Island Bed solves this problem/issue. Whilst The Explorer Group does have a Lateral Island Bed model in the stables as the Buccaneer Caravel one needs a Fire Engine for towing. There are a great many out there that do not have the experience for towing at 95+% but want the extra room and comfort that a twin axle offers with or without families into the equation. Come on Explorer Group what about a Twin Axle with a Lateral Island Bed that can be towed by a large family estate car rather than needing a Chelsea Tractor?.

Hi to you all out there. I have only just received our March 2012 Practical Caravan Magazine. What a breath of Fresh Air this new Bailey appears with. No fancy Alloys but tidy and neat back to basics Steel Wheels. Talking of steal,it would appear the Bailey have been able to Steal a March on other manufactures with this very attractive and completely fresh look. I have not as yet explored the others in the range but there is a fixed bed option. The front lounge area looks to be a great deal more users friendly in the configuration of the seating. The built-in Breakfast Bar also looks interesting as does the swing-out pedestal unit. Mr Caravan Dealer, here we come (in due course,of course).
