No 2. ..parking up noone for miles around to find someone park 3 inches away from you . ..do not pull the window blind up in anger and rip it off "just to have a look" . No 3. .emptying all your entire water out of the internal tanks under the van to create a flood then to realise the dogs water bowl is empty. No 4. .Dont rely on your mobile phone to be an alarm clock for an early start the battery goes flat . .espcially when your parked at the very front of the check in lane with a ferry load of cars waiting to board. 4. hi all, anyone knows if there is a 'deadline' to buy tickets for the channel crossing? I'm collecting Tesco points but I have the feeling that I won't get crossing times I want if I leave till the end. I'm traveling by the end of July when would be a reasonable time to buy them?. Thanks
  5. HI, Perhaps an emotive question, or maybe just self interest but I live on the beautiful Island of Ireland. The past two years I have travelled to France on holiday towing my caravan. This year we decided to stay on the Emerald Isle rather than travel abroad. Part of the reason for staying at home was the cost of ferry travel to both GB and/or France. This combined with Tesco's decision to reduce the exchange rate of vouchers from 4x to 3x, as well as Stena Line decision to cap the amount of Tesco vouchers that can be used for its crossings. Am I the only grouch on the island, or does anyone else feel that caravanners on the Emerald Isle are being discouraged from travelling to GB and/or France by excessive ferry costs? I have to say, having stayed at home this year and toured Co Kerry and Connemara (and seen the beauty the that is the Ring of Kerry), if we can strike a deal with the French that would allow us Islanders to import some of their weather I think we may be in a strong position to reduce our reliance on the Ferry companies. Just think of the extra money that could be spent on Guinness and Whiskey. .. Who do we need to talk to to get this sorted?

    Dfds Amendments

I have just phoned the DFDS to change a Caravan Show promotion booking I made for the October half term (23rd October - 3rd November) on the Dover to Dunkirk crossing. The reason for the change is out of my hands, as I have had a number of operations on both shoulders and I am awaiting at least one more and am unable to drive, due to the medication I am on. I asked to move the booking to the Easter holidays 1n 2014. Their response, to my surprise, after firstly being put on hold, was along the lines of "We don't allow special offer bookings to be used after the end of the year of the original booking". I was wondering if anyone else has come across this anomaly. I'm sure that I have read somewhere on here, that people have made these sort of amendments before, so is this a new policy on the side of DFDS or have I just spoken to the wrong person? So far this year, they have had £156 of our money, which we will have to forfeit if I can not change this booking, as I was previously refused a different booking amendment, with a similar response at Easter this year.
  8. Hi there, Just bought a new Bailey Pegasus GT65 Verona and after taking it down to Penzance the past two (fabulous!) weeks, we're now beginning to plan for a trip to Southern Spain in order to get away from the cold/wet/dark UK winter. We're towing with a 2010 SEAT Exeo ST 143 Estate and plan on visiting family near Poitiers France before heading toward Barcelona and then on down south. Would welcome any suggestions/advice that any members with experience in this area can offer. A few immediate questions. .. Chunnel or ferry? Can't find any ferry schedules (Plymouth/Portsmouth to St Malo/Cherbourg?) at present Travel alone or try to hook up with aothers travelling same direction? As this will be our first time, looking for sites where other English speaking folk (we're 62 and 65) of simillar age group will be Not too bothered about large holiday camp style places, but do want to be not too far from town/village with restaurants/entertainment Have propane tank, should I get Camping Gaz as well? Have noted two warning triangles, fluoro jacket, spare set of specs, headlight deflectors, ASIC card, spare bulbs - anything else? After 25 years away from caravanning, it's really great to be back! Eric and Elaine
  9. New summer service has started for those who fancy trip to Kintyre but don't want to do the 3 - 4 hour car journey round the lochs. http://www. calmac. co. uk/timetables/summer-timetables. htm?id=summer-kintyre-ardrossan-campbeltown. png Not that cheap though and timings leave a bit to be desired!
  10. We are looking to go to France in July. We will be traveling from Aberdeen so i thought the best option would be Hull to Zeebrugge as i can drive to Hull in a day and sleep all night in ferry ready to drive to France next day. We plan our first stop in Dieppe or close to it to visit a war grave. After that we have nothing planned but to follow the weather i guess. The dilemma We will be getting the ferry on July the 7th but have a wedding on the 20th in Aberdeen. It is not critical we get home for it but would like to make the effort if we can. If we have had to drive to the south of a france for the weather then we would look at missing the wedding due to time constraints. My question is if i book a single ferry ticket to Zeebrugge and we then decide we want to go for the wedding as we are not too deep into France is there sometimes problems at this time of year getting a booking. Or if we book the return and decide we can't make it, is it easy to change the return date. Our first trip overseas with the caravan so any comments will be appreciated. Cheers Ron
  11. Hi Anyone used this ferry on return from Northern Spain, what do you think of it and are there any deals to be had on the ferry cost. LD Lines site quotes £194. 00. We have already booked the Portsmouth Caen crossing (£333. 68 including 7 Camping Cheques). We are commited to visit Limoges on the way down, but are looking to save 560 miles on the way back.
