Make & Model of Towcar / Toad

Caravan / Motorhome / Static (Make and model)

Year of manufacture (Caravan / Motorhome / Static)

  1. Having a few issues with the Dometic tall fridge in our new Swift Challenger. The error light comes on periodically. Seems to do so sometimes after we have opened and closed the fridge. Fridge is definitely shut at both the top and bottom (its one of those that opens in either direction and snecks closed on pins at both the top and bottom). Occasionally it will reset after another open/close, but we have had to do a full reset, fridge off, wait 15 mins then back on to clear, a few times so far in 3 days. Anyone had anything similar? I think it is an RML10 DC
  2. My unicorn has had fridge issues and needed to remove to repair / replace. I sweated quite a bit on how to remove as I'd met a guy on the road who advised they had to remove the door frame in order to switch the fridge and in NZ it isn't that easy to find a skilled tradie to perform that work carefully. I ended up finding an outfit called Fridgetech in Auckland and all they do is fridges in vans and boats. They do a lot of super yacht work so needless to say they are very careful. Evidently given the fridge is basically the same width as the door getting it out this way is tough. However the light bulb moment was to take the fridge out the big centre front window. After removing the stays the fridge cleared this gap easily. We had 3 lifting while I held the window and thr fridge cameout without any contact. Hopefully this helps someone. All I would suggest is you need a good few hands on deck at least 3 (2 lifting plus one holding window) but more is better so you don't have to rest the fridge down on the front sill as the lifter oves from inside to out.
  3. Second day out in our new Sprite Compact dealer special and the fridge has got me flummoxed. At 2am we were woken by the fridge bleeping and the display flashing. Nobody had been near it for about 3 hours. Weirdly it wouldn't reset to auto or run on gas but just kept defaulting to mains but still flashing and bleeping. After much button pressing it suddenly settled on mains and the flashing stopped, so we thought all was well. Then at 6.30am it started bleeping and flashing again. This time the button pressing resulted in the auto and mains lights eventually remaining on. So again we thought all was OK. However 9am revealed that the fridge interior was warm and the fins had no sense of cold at all, even though it was showing mains and 3 bars. Outside the top vent is definitely throwing out warm air but the fridge isn't chilling.
  4. Hi, I have a DometicRM7271 in my recently purchased caravan. Its only cooling down to 8 degrees(even with low ambient temperatures) and turned up to max coldness. I'm trying to troubleshoot it. Ive taken it out and turned it upside down for a few days and then put it back in. - no change. The electrical heating element seems fine. Ive taken it out and checked it and its definitely heating up, too hot to hold shortly after applying power. Strangely, the freezer seems fine, its dropping well below freezing. I was getting the same result on gas when I tried it. Not cooling below 8deg--Is this a control issue. Should I be looking at internal thermostats or something like that? Thanks Richard
  5. First time caravaner - just bought a 2005 Sterling Elite Searcher & am finding there is a big learning curve! I'm having multiple problems, but the biggest right now is that the fridge is not working on gas or 230V. It is a Dometic RM 7601L refrigerator. When I turn on the gas, the display light on the controls is red and the pilot light does not even attempt to light (I know the gas is working because the hob works and stays lit). When I turn on 230V, the green light on the control panel goes on but nothing else happens. The light inside the fridge doesn't turn on (which on its own might suggest the light burnt out, but with everything else leads me to believe there is a power problem) and inside the fridge and freezer remains the same temperature. It is connected to power and I recently found the fuse under the couch and changed it just in case. As I previously stated, I'm new to all of this and have no idea what I'm doing. Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers!
  6. Newbie question I’m afraid! We’ve just purchased a 2021 Bailey Unicorn Black Edition Cartagena in New Zealand that has a Dometic 190 litre tower refrigerator and we are intending to go off grid for two weeks. We have a 100w Solar panel and plenty of gas, but wanted to know if you need to buy an additional battery pack to keep the fridge/freezer going for the whole trip, or if the 12v system will keep the electrics working whilst it functions off gas?
  7. Just been on a site where there was no toilet or shower facilities. Therefore for the first time ever - we used our on-board toilet to its full potential !!! About halfway through our holiday - the following happened ........ Removed the Dometic Saneo Toilet Cassette to transport it to the Chemical Waste for disposal. Started to wheel it across the gravel road using the integral extendable handle. Suddently one of the wheels collapsed and the contents started to poor out of the hole in the tank onto the gravel road. This was followed by a little bit of swearing !! Cannot believe that Dometic produce something as poor as this toilet cassette. The design is rubbish and the materials used are also rubbish (could have used a different word for rubbish !!) Attempting to get this replaced under warranty. Watch this space.
  8. I will try and abbreviate as much as possible - the main problem is that the B2200 is now on its third main Circuit board which is performing intermittently. 9th November 2010 Purchased a new Caravan and had a Dometic Air Conditioning Unit fitted. Model B2200 In early 2014 the unit exploded when switched on and had to be repaired as the circuit board was severely damaged and out of warranty. 24th April 2014 New circuit board was fitted by Mullicott Caravans, Ilfracombe at a cost of £395.04 During 2017 the unit failed again and was replaced on the date below. 7th September 2017 Another New circuit board was fitted by Mullicott Caravans, Ilfracombe at a cost of £337.82 During early 2019 The unit failed again and it was suggested that the circuit board might need to be replaced. I have done nothing since as I am not prepared to spend money on a unit which is not fit for purpose. I should say that the current fault is similar to the last fault ie when switched on the unit fails to operate and the red indicator flashes at a rate of once per second. On the odd occasion it does spring into life. I find it difficult to believe that a relatively simple product purchased 10 years ago has had three circuit boards in that period, including the original board which terminated in a very large explosion when switched on !!!!! and on two occasions since the unit has failed. Has anyone else had problems similar to the above - I have not found Dometic very helpful and am awaiting their comments to the above If anyone can help it would be appreciated - personally I suspect a temperature sensor or a capacitor is at fault but all anyone seem to want to do is replace an expensive board, only to fail again.
  9. I have a 2020 Swift Eccles 650 with a Thetford oven and a Dometic RML 10.4S tall double opening fridge. On going to our storage yesterday I wanted to make sure that everything worked on the gas as we had not tried it out. The grill had been an issue previously with only a trickle of gas coming through and the dealer fixed it. So the Alde boiler works perfectly, as does the oven and hob but neither the fridge or grill will run on gas. I have made sure the isolation valves are open for both and the gas bottle is 2/3 full. On the Swift command panel it says to reset the fridge by keeping the fridge on/off button pressed until it beeps but mine seems to do nothing including not switching it on/off? I will take it back to my dealer for a warranty repair but I wondered if anyone else has had a similar issue or has any idea what could be causing it? Am I doing/not doing something stupid?
  10. Lockdown boredom led me to thumb through the various manuals for the equipment in the van i noticed the following in the fridge manual Must admit, had not noticed this before, and is very pertinent for me, as go off grid a lot, and now using refillable gas bottles
  11. I can't find anyone who seems to have this problem, when I refill the flush water a lot of it leaks into the toilet bowl. This doesn't seem to happen immediately as I can be watching through the window while I'm filling from the outside. I have previously filled it, checked it's alright and returned an hour later to find the bowl half full of pink flush water. Not only is it wasting the pink solution but also filling the toilet cassette far too quickly. I am quite mechanically minded but I can't work out what's happening. Has anyone else had this problem and managed to correct it?
  12. We have a Dometic 8551 fridge fitted to our 2015 Lunar Clubman. This has worked fine so far including 5 weeks in France. (Fan assisted). Only annoying problem is that the 'door open' alarm often sounds even though you know it is shut, a small press on the top of the door will shut it up. We are now on a site in Suffolk, it might be that there is higher humidity but it does not feel particularly so. For the past few days there has been a wet 50mm circle on the outside of the door, so wet it drips down. It would appear that this is on the outside immediately opposite the catch. Suggesting poor insulation at this point causing a cold spot hence condensation. Anyone else had this? John
  13. Hi all, so this is going to be our first summer out in a caravan, we will mainly use it locally in East Anglia for 2-3 night weekends. The fridge in the caravan is small and while I have a Campingaz coolbox already, these only cool to 19 degrees below ambient. My question is, on a summer's day and 28 degrees plus outside, how warm does it get inside a caravan? Does the insulation of a caravan keep inside the van 10 degrees cooler so that my electric coolbox would be sufficient to keep steak and beer at the desired temperature? or do I have to bite the bullet and spend £220 on a Dometic Combicool DC1200?
  14. Hi I’m looking for some advise I have come to use my caravan fridge and the thing does nothing! It’s seems stuck on gas mode but will not change to any other mode? Even in gas mode it does not ignite or turn on or off. The only way to get the thing to turn off is by removing the fridge ignition fuse. ... anybody got any ideas.
  15. Hi, just got a Weinsberg 550 QDK. I am completely new to this so I am literally just reading the instruction manuals as I am leaving tomorrow with the family on our first outing. I bought two bottled of toilet liquid. A blue one and pink one. The blue one - Aqua Kem is put in the toilet cassette, so far so good. However, I can't find where to put the pink one on a Dometic 4110: https://www. dometic. com/en-gb/uk/products/hygiene-and-sanitation/sanitation/toilets/dometic-ctw-4110-_-25317 On youtube videos for other caravan/toilet models there's another pink near the cassette compartment, however that's not the case for this cassette/caravan. Any suggestions?
  16. Yet another niggle about the "Kazi" Picture this, first night of our holiday, pitched at the farthest end of the site, toilet block is a 10 min walk (OK I exaggerate 9 mins) and what happens. .... My lovely Dometic loo starts to pour pink flush water all over the floor from the blade when I flushed after my ablutions. Great being as it was nearly midnight and spent the next half an hour mopping up! So the next morning I go about trying to find out where leak was coming from, I couldn't find it for love nor money. Checked online in the forums & Google, very little information on Model (CTW4050) only replacement seals that cost £50 for 2. Most of the comments I found were about Thetford and seals going or needing lubrication, So I ordered silicone spray & Grease on Amazon Prime for next day delivery to site. Everything arrived, cleaned a re-greased. Tested again but still had Pink Niagara Falls in the washroom. So I gave up on toilet until I got home a week later. Please don't ask what I did for the rest of the holiday! So this afternoon I took about dismantling the toilet following the online Dometic Installation Manual. Would it come off the floor after releasing the six screws? would it begger!! and I wasn't about to start forcing things as a replacement toilet is £550. So I went hunting for the original caravan pack with all those useless guarantees and warrenties and found a Dometic Toilet Manual with a strange piece of lime green plastic which show's how to remove the toilet seat, So followed said instructions, undid the 8 screws, lifted off the the black flush ring, removed the ceramic bowl and Hey Presto found the reason for my Pink foot wash. A BROKEN 90 degree PLASTIC BEND. I've contacted Dometic to see if they can help & supply said part but as loo is out of warranty I would not be surprised to find that you wont be able to get this 25 pence part, so a whole new toilet will be needed ! Hmmm I have to see what they say. Lunar If your reading please keep with Thetford Loos I have had nothing but problems with this model since day one. Even with all the issues, I love the van but hate the build and product quality. Not sure If I would have another Lunar after having this one, the other two Lunars I have had were a dream with no problems. Rant over !
  17. Hi all, Wondering if anyone can help? Our dometic b2200 air con unit is stuck in standby mode. The reciever board was faukty so we replaced that and then the controller broke so we bought a new one. Followed the instructions to the letter and it's still stuck in standby mode. Any ideas?
  18. In common with many we have a Dometic Fridge fitted to the Unicorn. A few weeks ago I was present when the fridge was given a service by the Dometic Engineer. Being nosy I stayed whilst it was done and the following was of interest. 1. We run our fridge on gas a lot of the time and only use Autogas from a Safefill cylinder the engineer was most complementary about the cleanliness of the flue and burner. Saying "it could have been fitted last month, it's so clean there is nothing to clean out. Much better than most I see running on calor and the like." And as I could see it was. 2. Then got onto the Defrost drain system. For those that do not know the defrost water drains into a small plastic container that is clipped to the back of the fridge pipework and is supposed to evaporate from there. We had already been away for 10 days and the fridge had defrosted from that trip, then 24 hrs later we set off on this one. The container still had about 1/4 pint of water in it and there is nothing to stop this sloping out of the container all over the floor inside the van at the back of the fridge. The engineer stated that a kit was available to drain this water straight through the floor to the outside ( basically a length of plastic tube ) and that he considered this a much better system than having anything up of 1/2 pint of water sloshing about and couldn't understand why manufacturers fitted the fridge with the evaporation tub and not the tube in a moving vehicle. Other than it removed any chance of the tube freezing in cold weather and blocking. Looking at the water that would have ended up on our floor had we have done anything like a heavy stop on the tow that morning I had to agree with him. On our return home I have checked the tub after 2 weeks in the barn. It still holds a significant amount of water. So any thoughts from the engineers out there. I have, as he suggested, replaced my tub with a suitable length of tube. I'll see how it goes.
  19. Hi I saw a recent post by member Hondajon about his Dometic fridge problem and saw how it was solved by some very learnered members ! I have the same series of fridge and my problem is as follows :- It works on gas and 230v, when I switch to 12v (with the car connected, engine running) the indicator light does not come on and the fridge does not work, testing the supply I find I have 12v going in to the PCB but nothing comming out to the heater element . I connected the heater element direct to a 12v battery and it gets hot, so it is ok . Is it possible that the relay is at fault, as in Hondajons post, and is not switching the 12v through or could it be something else? the fuse on the PCB is in-tact and there are no signs of any of the components beiung burnt out . Help will be very much appriciated as a replacement PCB is £150ish . Thanks .
  20. HELP!! When we packed up to leave at the weekend we couldn't switch off the fridge. Every time we pressed the off button we could hear the relay click but after a couple of seconds the fridge switched back on. I tried every combination from mains to gas to battery but on switching off, it came back on!! The only way I could get it off was to pull the fridge ignition fuse. when I re inserted the fuse it stayed off, but on switching on and off again it repeated the constant turning back on. I have left the fuse out for now. Any advice / comments we go abroad next week for 5 weeks and can't get to a Dealer before. Thanks in anticipation Dave
  21. Hi we recently changed our caravan to a new van and it has a Dometic 4050 toilet but the flush is very poor it will not flush all the way round the bowl it is an effort to just flush the paper away. have any other members had this problem if so what is the fix Dave
  22. Can anyone please, please help!!! My 2004 Bessacarr Cameo 495 is fitted with a Dometec RM7295L fridge. Fridge has always worked fine on gas, 240 V and 12 V, until this week. Returning home and after a journey stop, I switched the fridge back on to 12 V as normal, with the car engine running. I was greeted with a loud buzzing from the control panel at the top of the fridge, the green "ON" light was lit. However, I decided to turn the fridge off to return home. On inspection, the buzzing noise is coming from rapid chatter on the large relay in the centre of the PCB. With the car engine on tickover, I am getting 11V at the fridge input. I have fitted a new smart relay to the car and a new habitation relay in the caravan, the 12V fridge heater has been checked and is good. It looks like it could mean a new PCB, but I do not want to buy one until I am sure that it will cure the problem, they are expensive! I am going to France next week and really want to get it sorted. I now have very little hair to pull out so any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Alan.
  23. Dometic were among the kindly folks to show us around and talk us through their wares at the 2013 Motorhome & Caravan Show. The Dometic team were at the show offering support to customers having difficulties or simply wanting to know more about their own products, as well as helping customers to understand the best products for their needs. We have therefore decided that we should be helpful as well, and talk you through a few of our favourite new Dometic products here. Dometic Premium RTA 20 DC Dometic's Premium Rooftop Awning will very soon be available for panel vans and motorhomes with curved edges. The new roof-mounted range will fit Volkswagen T5, Fiat Ducato, Citroen Jumper, Peugeot Boxer and Ford Transit van styles, in addition to many other vehicles where side-mounting poses a problem. This rooftop awning is extended electronically, has a nifty built-in sensor which retracts the awning in strong winds, and also benefits from not having support legs, increasing the amount of usable space below. The Dometic Premium RTA 20 DC will be available from the start of 2014. WAECO PerfectView MC 402 A multimedia monitor designed to conveniently provide entertainment and enhance safety. It features a 6. 2 inch LCD display, touch-screen control, SD, AUX and USB input, and direct smartphone control. The multi-purpose unit can, with its entertainment hat on, be used to watch films, listen to music, or keep up to date with traffic and travel news - combining the features of radio, DVD, CD, VCD, MP3 and WMA. For improved safety, the unit can also receive a separate feed from a rear-view camera. The built-in moniceiver eliminates the need for a bracket-mounted monitor, therefore improving windscreen visibility. Dometic MW 13 Previously, only freestanding microwaves have been available to the aftermarket; however, Dometic can now offer a retro-fit version of the microwave/grill combo. Key features include heat being distributed evenly through the food by the 3D Dual Emission System, the 'Jet Defrost' function - up to 85% faster than standard defrost functions, quick-start function and a practical cool-down function, which cools food down to a sensible eating temperature to prevent users burning their tongues or having to perform the bizarre yet endearing 'hot food in mouth' gurn. Dometic CombiCool RC 1205 GC This new absorption coolbox contains an integrated holding bracket for a 220g butane gas cartridge - the only model to do so; the need for hauling a round heavy gas cylinders is there removed. Good news, eh? The CombiCool RC 1205 GC features (in addition to the zippy name that just rolls off the tongue), all the CombiCool series benefits you'd expect. ..it runs completely silently, it can operate on gas, 12V DC or from a 230V hook-up, it has a 40 litre capacity, it offers reliable cooling up to 25 degrees C below the ambient temperature, and can even produce ice cubes (ice cube tray supplied). WAECO CoolFreeze CFX 65 DZ Another great and flamboyantly titled cooling tool. ..the first ever portable compressor cooler, for simultaneously cooling and freezing food or drink. This cunning piece of kit features a refrigeration area and a separate 17 litre freezer section, allowing fresh food, cold drinks and frozen food to be transported at the appropriate temperatures.
  24. The operating instructions for my Dometic absorption fridge states that winter vents should be fitted during the colder months but none came with my ‘van so I queried Dometic whether not fitting these would actually affect my warranty. The answer from Dometic was “No”, it would not affect my warranty for the first claim, however, they would charge for any subsequent claim. They also said that cold weather was very unlikely to cause the fridge to fail but (rather counter-intuitively) may reduce cooling performance. To quote them directly: “If you use the product below 10-8 degrees and the unit fails, because of the lack of winter covers, warranty would not be void, but if the unit failed again after a repair had been made because of the same issue, then the work would be chargeable second time. 25. Hi All, My caravan suffers from severe draughts coming round the fridge, so I thought I'd have a look while the fridge was out being fixed (see my other post 'Dometic fridge - poor mains performance') with a view to improving the situation. Looking at the Dometic instruction/installation manual that came with the caravan, the original installation of the fridge was far from what Dometic specify. There was virtually no sealing around the unit to prevent draughts/gas entering the habitation area (unsafe?) and the distance from the rear of the fridge to a vertical surface (the caravan sidewall) was about 60mm too much - Dometic recommends a gap of 15-20mm between the back of the fridge and a vertical surface such as the caravan sidewall to maximise heat removal from the fridge. The image below (looking from inside the caravan at where the fridge normally sits) shows the seals I have installed to reduce draughts and a raised panel covered in heat-reflective foil to aid airflow. I have also drilled gas drop holes in this panel allowing gas to escape in the event of a leak. A baffle, screwed to the sidewall reduces the gap between fridge and sidewall to Dometic's specified 20mm - directing the incoming air from the lower vent over the pipework on the fridge before exiting through the upper vent. Hopefully my modifications will improve efficiency and, who knows, save a bit of energy. I will also be installing a digital thermometer (probe inside the fridge, display outside) to monitor the fridge temperature. My little boy takes drugs that need to be stored between 2 and 8 degrees so it is important the fridge is working at its most efficient to keep a stable temperature. I'll post again with the results and pics when the fridge is back and working. Thanks for reading! Jon
