  1. I have seen a few abbreviations (?) that are difficult for someone like me (total newcomer) to understand. Is a CL a code for full service pitch ? -thanks
  2. I wonder how many CL sites with either clubs, have the following. 16amp electric, electric post with light, same post with a mains water supply, grey waste outlet, both grass and hard standing, toilet block. We found one in Gloucestershire, Passage Farm, that has all of these. I would suggest that this is possibly one of a kind, but I am willing and happy to be proved wrong.
  3. Does anyone know of any CL type sites in the south-west corner of Ireland? I've only managed to find the large (rack'em and stack'em) commercial sites so far. I prefer sites with 5 or less vans and can be gas-only. Thanks
  4. Hi to all I'm trying to find a nice quiet, sea side site near to St Ives, Cornwall. Ideally a CL with EHU with great views fairly near the sea and bus routes and a pub/village not too far away. Not asking too much ? wellI suppose it is a bit We're a "mature" couple and are mainly use our own "facilities" so showers etc are not needed and we normally go for CC CL's ( we're members) or the more baisic Club Sites ( like St Agnes) but not too far away from some interest - village town etc where there might be some live music and pub grub etc. Oh! and a decent beach We're looking to go mid July Cheers JIm
  5. Poole Farm Adults Only (CC-CL) Launceston - Site review Date visited - June 2014 Unit - Car/Caravan Price per night - £14. 00 incl This is an “Adults Only” Caravan Club CL (members only) and recently CL of the year, it is located close to the Devon/Cornwall boarder and can be found after driving down a very narrow lane from the main road. Do not use your sat nav to navigate to this site use the directions in the sites directory or from the owners due to an impassable bridge. When we visited this site most of the road hedges had not been trimmed which made you more alert and on edge. This site is approx ¾ acres each pitch is hard standing. Each pitch had its own water tap and EHU point. Facilities for re-cycling were available. Shower, toilet, and chemical empty point with water tap for flushing are contained in a very nice hut. If you intend to use your Aquaroll mains water adaptor, depending on the way you decide to pitch and depending which side your water inlet is, you may need an extension to the standard 7-metre pipe. The site has a dedicated dog walk, which is also used by campers who sit and admire the views. There is a B&B available in the farmhouse, but was not viewed during our stay, but would be ideal if you had non-caravanning friends who wanted to be with you. Great care is needed when using the site approach road; it is very narrow and has no passing places, so the arrival “after 12. 00” really needs to be adhered too. The owner’s work very hard to keep this site in a clean and enjoyable state and is a credit to them. We would certainly recommend this site
  6. Ashton Garden Plant Centre (now Ashton’s) (CC-CL) Evesham - Site review Date visited - June 2014 Unit - Car/Caravan Price per night - £12. 00 incl This is a Caravan Club CL (members only) Access into the site is past the Garden Plant Centre then past the owner’s house and into the site on your right. The driveway to the site is in need of repair, due to large potholes, during our stay, very large pools of water had to be negotiated despite plenty of “ballast” around the site, which could have been used to fill them in. This site is open with a fence around the perimeter, with views and approx 1 acre, with grass pitches. You may need levelling blocks. The pitches are not marked. Two EHU bollards are located central to two sides of the site each having two hook-up sockets, so if the sites full (5 units) one pitch would be without hook up,( this is not mentioned in the sites directory). The EHU bollards have meters installed but this is included in the £12 per night fee. A WC, which is situated in a metal cubicle, chemical disposal and re-cycling bins are on site. No dog walks facilities on site but with a public footpath adjacent, this could be used. If you are into walking, this site is ideal. The Plant centre has a café and farm shop so you can buy bread, cobs etc. We had a light meal & coffee in the café and pleased with it. Some road noise could be heard but we did not find it too intrusive. Morrison’s supermarket (with fuel), Halfords are within 3 miles of the site. We saw a green woodpecker, five stoats, a black deer, and foxes during our few days stay. We would certainly recommend this site.
  7. Southfield Adults Only (CC-CL) Taunton - Site review Date visited - June 2014 Unit - Car/Caravan Price per night - £10. 00 incl This is an Adults Only Caravan Club CL (members only) This site is approx 1. 5 acres with grass pitches levelling blocks were needed the pitches are in a line and close together despite the site being quite large. There are three grass and two hard standings each with EHU point. Facilities for re-cycling were available and chemical empty point with water tap for flushing. There is a small dog walk facilities on site, with a waste bin, but I would not think it would suffice a large dog. The grass could have been cut shorter and the clippings collected, which would have improved the sites appearance, but for £10 pn, who could complain. We were pleased we had the awning carpet to use. During our stay, the site only had three caravans on which made it feel as if they were well spaced, but with five caravans/motor-homes, would have felt closed in. Road noise is not really an issue on this site but the railway line which runs directly by the side can be, especially when they sound the klaxons, this is not mentioned in the sites directory. We would certainly recommend this site.
  8. Specky Wood (CC-CL) Coverack - Helston - Site review Date visited - June 2014 Unit - Car/Caravan Price per night - £10. 00 incl This is a Caravan Club CL (members only) This site is approx 1. 5 acres flat grass pitches (some small levelling blocks were needed though) they are well spaced out, each pitch had EHU point. Facilities for re-cycling were available and chemical empty point with water tap for flushing. No dog walk facilities are available on-site, but owners used the lane adjacent to exercise them. Care is needed when using the site approach road; it is narrow but does have passing places. When we visited this site, most of the road hedges had not been trimmed, which made you more alert. The owners were very friendly they even supplied fresh homemade scones, and fresh seafood to your caravan door at a reasonable price Coverack is a very nice place which can be walked in about 20mins but allow an extra 10-15mins for the return walk due to the steep road. This CL site is adjacent to another CL (owned by the same people) and a commercial site, which did produce some noise, but was not intrusive and did not last for long. We would certainly recommend this site.
  9. Moorend Farm Adults Only (CC-CL) Slimbridge - Site review Date visited - June 2014 Unit - Car/Caravan Price per night - £15. 00 incl This is a working farm but the Caravan Club CL (members only) is on directly opposite the actual farm, as it is a working farm, you need to enjoy the “fresh” aroma, so we did not eat outside during our stay unfortunately. This site is approx ¾ acres flat grass pitches (some small levelling blocks were needed though) they are in a line but well spaced out, with three hard standings at the first three pitches. Each pitch had its own water tap and EHU point. Facilities for re-cycling were available and chemical empty point with water tap for flushing. Note if you intend to use your Aquaroll mains water adaptor (7-metre pipe should be adequate), it can have a tendency to overfill due to the low water pressure (as we found out, after the overflowing container flooded our awning.) There is no dog walk facilities on site, but owners used the lane adjacent to exercise them. Great care is needed when using the site approach road; it is very narrow so the arrival “after 12. 00” really needs to be adhered too. The Slimbridge Wetlands is “a must” if you like birds (feathered type) Well worth the £12. 30 each admission fee, and can be walked to (1 mile) from site, parking is free at Slimbridge Wetlands. We would recommend this site
  10. Just booked 8 days in the Isles of Wight mid September at the Southland site, we will be going from Lymington on the most expensive ferry journey in the world at £287. Thanks to Tesco now £95 in coupons. Would like to spend 5 days before in a CL and there seems to be a good choice in the area, in fact we are spoilt for choice so would like recommendations to help us make the decision. We are getting spoilt now and go for EHU, never used to bother. PS anyone any thoughts about the Southland site, and out and about, (no kids). John
  11. Visited this friendly CL last week. I wondered how many members would be happy to have to set up on such a slope. It certainly took a bit of doing. For me the view and the peace and quiet make it worthwhile. http://www. caravantalk. co. uk/community/gallery/album/1366-caldecott/ John

    Lots of packing

    From the album: Caldecott

This CL was on a big slope but packing was provided and the view was worth it.
