This one's fairly niche interest! Back in July we had an "interesting" discussion on the types of axle that Al-Ko offer - and who uses what. https://www. caravantalk. co. uk/community/topic/130418-single-vs-twin-axle/?page=4 The consensus seemed to be that the UK manufacturers used the Euro Compact axle and the mainland Europe manufacturers used the Euro Delta. This was backed up by Al-ko themselves, who also said that the Delta axle tended to be the cranked axle beam version. The Delta offers a more stable tow. I was curious to see if any UK manufacturers had switched for 2019 - particularly on their wider or heaviest vans. A random check under a few vans at the NEC showed no cranked axle beams on UK vans. Out of interest and, because once you've got on your hands and knees in front of thousands of people you might as well keep doing it, I also checked under some Adria, Knaus and Weinsberg vans. The result was that Adria's Adora did have the cranked axle but the Adria Altea, Knaus Sport and Fun and Weinsberg caravans did not. I know these represent the budget end of the euro market i was a little surprised given Al-ko's statement to Lutz. Perhaps they are using a non-cranked Delta axle, though that seems unlikely.

Hi friends, viewing good old YouTube to see how to service & change friction pads I noticed there lots of uploads stating that the Al-Ko stabilisers (mine's the 3004 model) are not effective in controlling tail sway. As a relatively new caravanner I'm quite concerned about this. I've taken on board information about correct nose weight & caravan load distribution, speed control & complied with the guidance found. While I've only towed twice & not had any sway problems from these limited journey's, I'm keen to learn if the claims that the Al-Ko stabilisers are not doing what is claimed for them are true & if forum members have any experience of this issue. Regards Dave.

If I buy off ebay a wheel lock second hand, then buy the correct insert from AL-KO, can I register with AL-KO the old locks to my caravan ?
-
This is my first caravan, no major issues apart from the suspension is sitting rather low, and makes it impossible to remove the wheels. I have been told that it can be crow-barred back down and then the bushes replaced. I understand the levering back round part, to get the clearance back, but i thought the bushes were non replacable as they are inserted under 12 tons of pressure at manufacture. Do I need a new axle? Is it fixable? Economicaly viable? (I've seen rebuilt axles, they cost more than the van is worth) I've also seen complete al-ko chassis for a couple of hundred, would it cost much to change the complete chassis? Any ideas, experiences greatly apreciated

2011 Bailey Valencia, fully serviced, last time in February. Since towed about 650 miles. 200 miles into France we lost a wheel at about 50. Tell tales where fitted and checked as OK before the trip. Assistance have condemned the wheel and the axle. They want to give me a price to fit a new one but I have no confidence in their ability as they used the steadies to put the spare wheel on and it bounced so much on the back of the transporter that a weld was fractured on the jockey wheel, they also pulled a bumper off when trying to get it sited. We have had the van sited waiting desisions, on a nice quiet municipal costing 10:60 Euros per night, but there is nothing to see or do in the area. Anyway I feel it needs specialist kit to change so we are planning to cut very short our first ever long holiday and have the van brought back to Alko in Warwickshire to be done properly. We have European breakdown with CSMA CC insurance and holiday insurance but I think that's just medical. Just to add to our troubles the charger failed today. Yes people will say its a Bailey, what can you expect. But the chassis is Alko and the charger will be made by a third party. Thinking of taking legal advice on return to UK. Any thoughts or advice greatfully received. John

We've ordered a Swift Challenger Sport 524 which doesn't have AL-KO ATC fitted as standard. Our caravan will be an ex-show model. When I asked the dealer about retrofitting ATC he suggested buying Glamourshield (exterior and interior protection) as this would be a better investment. He said that Swift have designed a very stable caravan whilst towing and it would be a waste of money. The caravan is going back to Swift after the show for preparation before it's transported to the dealer. Should I ask for ATC to be retrofitted and would Swift Fit it, the dealer or AL-KO? Which would be the cheapest?

Hi I have just bought a caravan (learning a lot). I then bought an alko wheel lock no. 20 (correct one for my caravan). Last night I attempted to fit it. I took that patent sticker off the fitting on the caravan and found a locking nut already in place (see photo). Does the mean that someone has fitting a locking nut and left it there? And I need to get it removed? Thanks for looking

I'm thinking of fitting Al-ko shock absorbers to my new 'van when it arrives, MRO 1105kg / MTPLM 1255kg, so would order the blue ones for GVW 900-1300kg and they look a breeze to fit. Thing is, is there any point in fitting on a light weight 'van? Anyone fitted them and noticed a difference?
