  1. Hi, I’m new to caravinning. We just purchased an elddis affinity 540 caravan. I believe I need a size 15 or 1025. Ive seen that air awnings are smaller. What size do I have to purchase?? Does it have to be the size of the van or can it be bigger than a porch awning?
  2. Morning all Just bought one of these on impulse, the 390 model ( £200 cheaper than Kampa ) Just wondered if any one has one and their views . The price diff has me a little concerned over quality but at £400 pound it still should be ok, right ????? Will find out this weekend im sure Thanks, and have a great bank holiday in your vans Dave
  3. Just re-posting this, as I originally placed it in another thread which was more about about air leaks. Re-proofed my leaking-from-new Kampa Rally Air Pro 390 awning a couple of weeks ago. Weekend just gone, it got well-rained on while we were away. Result: bliss! Instead of pouring through the roof, sides and doors, it just stood in beads and rolled off the canvas. No leaks anywhere - except. . . ..when it pooled on the roof, and I had to push it off with the brush. A few drops came through where I touched the roof. But to be fair, no more water came through afterwards. I've read other threads about pooling on this awning. It's important to space the awning out properly and inflate until it nearly explodes. Unfortunately, even that doesn't seem to work when the ground is sloping up away from the caravan, which leaves the roof more level than it should be. However, I'm happy wih the waterproofing. It's stopped me chucking the awning on the tip. What did I use? Fabsil Gold - applied with a 3" paintbrush. £14 a litre. Used 2. 5 litres. Well worth it. Final point - for me this confirms my view that the problem was down to poor manufacture. The proofing was incomplete. And that supports a view, gleaned from many posts on here, that the quality of a Kampa awning is very hit-and-miss. Some are fine. Others are disastrous. Buy at your peril.
  4. Hi everyone, I have a Swift 530se 2013 and I forgot to measure the van before I left. We are now on holiday in our old van for the last time before we swap next week and go straight off in the new van. Want to get a new awning for the new caravan before we go. I was thinking about a Kampa air of some description. Does anyone have one of these on their swift 530 I have no idea what size I need to get to avoid windows/doors etc.
  5. Hi all Newby to the site, would like recommendations for an inflatable awning to fit Bailey senator Indiana 2005 please. Needs to be put up single handedly. Not sure whether to go for porch or larger if the effort to erect is much the same. Needs to be able to handle strong coastal winds, but majority of time will only be weekend use save for a few longer periods over summer. All advice gratefully received.
  6. We picked up our new Vango Varkala 420 awning yesterday. Its our first awning for our first caravan and we can't wait to get out and give it a try in 2 weeks. Anyone else got one? The bag is huge LOL! On a side note I have to say I found Glossop Caravans a bit odd really, its the first time we've bought anything substantial from them and I found them a bit amateur. Lots of shouting across the sales room in a slightly rude manner to ask people to do things, they appeared to be very busy but no excuse for the way the manager was dealing with the staff I thought, they should be used to being busy at this time of year surely! The inner we'd ordered for the awning wasn't available and I was left none the wiser as to why, had they not got them, didn't know where they were, sold them in error??? I'll be getting on the case with that next week but I was left feeling like I wanted to get out of there. Didn't feel very comfortable at all.
  7. Hi, I want to buy a lightweight air awning that travels in the awning rail, just to make it even easier to put up, like the old Pyramid PDQ. Does anyone know of such an awning? I have emailed a couple of suppliers, awaiting a response. I can't email Kampa, they are not easy to contact in this high tec world.
  8. Hi Everyone, Does anyone have a vango airbeam caravan awning? I realise they are relatively new and therefore there aren't many reviews online. We know we definitely want one but can't decide which one to get! At the moment we think we'll get the one of the 420 ones but unsure about getting the varkala or the Sanna? Any help/opinions/reviews would be very much appreciated!!! Thanks
  9. Used awning for third time and still love it despite deflation problem! Spent first three days re-inflating when leak became apparent. Cursed a lot. By closing all internal connecting valves, isolated problem to one of four main floor-to-caravan air poles. Thought 'damn, that'll be expensive'. While I carried on cursing and mused on options, including bicycle puncture repair kit, other half decided to pump up and listen for air escape. She found it in two mins. There was a 4mm split in the grey pipe where it joins the valve. God knows how it got there. Thankfully, when I read up on stuff to keep in a toolbox as a newbie last year, duct tape was on the list. A strip of that, and another for good luck, did the job! No more pumping needed. Second problem: still getting water dripping in through seams. Expected this, as before I bought, advice was that seam stitching needed a good soaking to make it expand and become fully waterproof. After three trips involving around 8 days of rain, water is still coming through, though much reduced. Will it stop altogether?
  10. Hi, having finally received my ace air awning, I'm now unable to get the annexe I ordered at the same time. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if the poled kampa ace annexe fits the air model as well? Some websites list the same annexe, others don't! Hopefully somebody has already tried this and knows the answer!! Thanks John
  11. So which one!!! Been looking around for a new porch (260 isn ) awning. Love the idea of an air awning and they seem to look very good. So which one - the Kampa is a little more expensive, but is it worth the extra over the Sunncamp? What are your experiences thanks Nic
  12. I am looking to get an air awning, but I wondered about what material they are? We currently have a Suncamp Ultima plus 390 Acrylic, chosen specifically because it was acrylic and not the usual nylon type thin tent stuff. What are air awnings made of? Is it actual acrylic like full size awning material, or thin tent type nylon? Thanx muchly. :-)
  13. I decided to test a theory today and pleased to report it worked So in addition to protection from pole damage and speed of erection I can dry/air it at home on my return
  14. Wondered who else out there is being drip fed information about their Kampa Air awnings. I ordered the middle of February and told I would receive within a month or so. Received a letter a few weeks later advising they were struggling and we may not receive for Easter. Easter has been and gone, phoned at the weekend and they said they were getting an order by the end of the month. Spoke with the dealer again who advised they are receiving 2 390's air pro (i'm 5th on the list out of 26) either the end of this week or the beginning of next week, but then they are not expecting anymore delivery's until the end of May!! So from been told it would initially affect our Easter plans, its now definitely affecting this weekends plans and is possibly going to affect our May day bank holiday weekend. I've seen the product (brother in law ordered 2 weeks prior and has had his for 5/6 weeks now) and it is a great awning, but surely someone somewhere should be trying to do a little more for people who have placed orders and put down deposits, yet are been misfed information about delivery dates. Not sure if anyone from Kampa looks at these forums, but it would be great if they did as I would love a business model like this and still be successful!!
  15. We have an Avondale 630/6 caravan and have been looking at the air-filled awnings. The height of the van is 256 cm but all the air filled seemed to be 250cm. Does anyone with a larger van have one of these awnings and how do you find it. We will be spending 5 weeks in France this summer and it looks like an easier option for touring from place to place. Thanks all
  16. In February last year we purchased a Kampa Rally Air 390 from the caravan show. We used the awning about 4 or 5 times in the period up until the last week of April without a problem. We took the caravan away to stay at Daisy Bank Caravan site in Wales and once the van was set up I progressed to putting up the awning. However, it quickly became apparent that there was an air leak in 2 of the main beams of the awning. We had noticed on the way up to the site that Salop Leisure was quite close to the roadside. We called them and they said that they had a patch kit that would repair the leaks. We made our way down to the shop and picked up the kit. The day we were there the shop had a Caravan show on and there happened to be a Sales Manager for Kampa in the showroom. We were introduced to him and explained the problem. He then said that he would arrange for collection of the awning and that they would replace the faulty beams and return it to us. The awning was picked up and taken back to base and it has now been repaired and has been returned back to us after having the replacement beams installed. We would like to thank Kampa for the excellent service even though the awning was more than 12 months old. Conor and Lucy
  17. Please can anyone tell me if they are using an inflatable awning we have got a 2012 bailey rimini and are looking for something quicer and easier to put up than our Isabella awning and with the van being 13cms taller we wondered if it will fit ok
  18. What happens when a (your?) cat uses airtube(s) as scratching post?
  19. Hello to you all I have a 22 year-old nicely restored tourer, just under 4 metres long. It's great and easy to tow. An awning is essential for longer breaks away and so far I've 'coped' with a traditional awning - alloy poles, heavyish canvas etc. Now I am getting a tad older with one or two ailments including Sciatica, I'm thinking about an inflatable awning to take as much strain out of putting an awning up as possible. I've seen reviews for Kampa Rally Air Pro and Outdoor Revolution Oxygen 1. Has anyone any experience/comments on inflatable awnings please? They are a 'price' but the thought of making touring as easy as possible as I get older , is something to think about. Thanks for your help
  20. We go away in 7 days, been holding out for kampa rally air 390, not looking like it will come into broad lane alcester in time. Im getting the laptop out in a bit. -anyone in the meantine know if anywhere has them in stock? We need one ( 3 kids)
  21. Would you . ... ?? http://www. worldofcamping. co. uk/sunncamp-ultima-air-280-awning-air-volution-inflation?utm_source=google&utm_medium=merchant&utm_campaign=feed&gclid=CNa40O3b8rYCFZMbtAodO2kArw Other outlets are available
  22. I have decided that this Bailey Valencia I have is going to stay as we are both more than happy with it. Thought about upgrading to the mark 2 but in the end it was the size of the shower that put us off. The one bad thing about the mark 1 Valencia, as has been discussed on these forums, is the nose weight. It tows stable enough, my car is rated at 100kg but it is very difficult to reduce the nose weight to the 100kg region. The result is a hard and uncomfortable ride. Thought I would upgrade the rear suspension and was about to purchase Coil-Rite air spring inserts. I am using donuts at present which do help maintain a level outfit. Before ordering I called my insurance. RIAS The woman who answered was very understanding and said she would pass on to the underwriters that I only wanted to improve the towing ability and safety by using a well tried and tested product manufactured by an international company. Result. A definite NO! RIAS will not accept suspension modifications in any circumstances. I told her I will not be renewing in December, she did not argue. Is this other member’s impression of RIAS? Does anyone have experience of Coil-Rites they could pass on? John
