HI, Perhaps an emotive question, or maybe just self interest but I live on the beautiful Island of Ireland. The past two years I have travelled to France on holiday towing my caravan. This year we decided to stay on the Emerald Isle rather than travel abroad. Part of the reason for staying at home was the cost of ferry travel to both GB and/or France. This combined with Tesco's decision to reduce the exchange rate of vouchers from 4x to 3x, as well as Stena Line decision to cap the amount of Tesco vouchers that can be used for its crossings. Am I the only grouch on the island, or does anyone else feel that caravanners on the Emerald Isle are being discouraged from travelling to GB and/or France by excessive ferry costs? I have to say, having stayed at home this year and toured Co Kerry and Connemara (and seen the beauty the that is the Ring of Kerry), if we can strike a deal with the French that would allow us Islanders to import some of their weather I think we may be in a strong position to reduce our reliance on the Ferry companies. Just think of the extra money that could be spent on Guinness and Whiskey. .. Who do we need to talk to to get this sorted? -
Are we The Forgotten Tourists? I live in Ireland and for the past two years have taken my family to France for our summer holidays. However, this year we decided to stay at home and toured Ireland. Mainly my reason for staying at home was the increasingly expensive cost of getting ferries to GB and / or France. Having experienced some of the wonderful sights (and sites) within Ireland and GB I believe that we have a lot to offer from a tourism perspective. Unfortunately, I believe that Ferry costs across the Irish Sea (both directions) are somewhat prohibitive. Should Tourism Authorities being doing more to help lobby ferry companies that operate across the Irish Sea to drive down travel costs? I understand from similar posts that Campers and Caravanners who live in GB are equally put off travelling with their Units to Ireland because of the cost of ferry. Indeed, one poster commented that they could travel to Calais 3 to 4 times for the same price that it would cost to travel across the Irish Sea. Do members feel that Tourism Authorities are currently doing enough to support and promote Campers and Caravanners who wish to travel between Ireland and GB for both short breaks and longer holidays? Frequently we read and hear statistics about number of flights, cruise ships, hotel occupancy rates etc. .. but rarely do I hear tourism reports about the passion that is Camping and Caravanning. Is it just me or does anyone else feel that this 'oversight' is a little unjust? Thanks in advance for reading. NikonPhotoBro

Just wondering whether members feel that tourism authorities (on both sides of the channel) are doing enough to promote and support Campers and Caravanners who wish to holiday in Ireland or GB? I live in Ireland and this year decided to holiday at home partly due to the cost of travelling to GB or France by ferry. Having posted a topic on another forum I get the distinct impression that a significant number of Campers and Casavanners are put off travelling across the Irish Sea because of ferry cost. Above being the case, do we feel that tourism authorities could do more to apply pressure on ferry companies to make costs more reasonable, and in turn increase visitor numbers between our islands? Just interested in the thoughts of members, particularly in light of the increased number of holiday makers that are turning to Camping and Caravanning as a means of short breaks and longer holidays.
