  1. I have a 2012 vip coachman and despite initial grumbles and bits needing fixing i have found the van to be very good quality, reliable and well built to last. So 8 years old soon we thought we should look for a newer one. So far i have found to my dismay the pull out bed has been replaced with just plain bits of wood that used to be used 20 plus years ago in low end vans, dodgy sunroof blinds and front blind wont close upwards. The clothes drawers in the bathroom are so small you cant get much in them and the nearside wet locker is now a hole into the van under the bed! I can seem to find a review that is not biased in some way and it feels to me that whilst it looks good, quality of materials used is well below what you would expect for a 25k van. What i would like to do is hear from anyone who has an 18, 19, 20, vip what their views on these vans to help me decide if i should buy another coachman? Thanks in advance.
  2. Well we went to the final Lawns Caravan Show (after 44 years) on Saturday. We decided to swap our 10 month old VIP 520, after the way Dometic handled our recent issues and the pathetic Dometic Loo. We had to take the cost hit on the chin, after a lengthy discussion with the sales guy and his boss, we finally got a "deal" where we actually lost 30% 😫 but feel in the long run now we only have to put up with Dometic Fridge. Dealer is going to confirm delivery date next week. But they did say un-officially could be 1st or 2nd week on Oct. 🙏
  3. Hi All I occaisionally use a Truma Ultraflow Waterline Mains Adapter Kit on my Coachman Laser. It has probaly been connected about 12 times. Recently, I have noticed that the flow rate drops signifantly, especially when it is first connected after a break and it has never really delivered water at the same rate as the standard submersible pump, it is adequate but only just. Has anyone out there shared the same experience and maybe know of any simple fixes if there is one, or is this normal.
  4. Ordered a new VIP 520 at the October NEC show on the Wednesday. Got a call today from the dealer who has said the van is going to be built next week, they will have the van from factory by end of October, so can collect Wednesday 7th November at 9am. They need a few hours to swap mover over so van should be ready for collection by 2. 30. We have booked a CL site 1/2 hour away so if any snags are found they will come out and sort them, and they will pay up to £20 for the first night. Happy days. Review will no doubt follow after the shake down
  5. On route to a town a few miles north of me in the East Midlands, just off the A1, I decided to pop in to the caravan dealers for a browse as they now sell new Coachmans. Now I'm not in the market for a new caravan as our 2010 Wanderhome special is everything we need, for now, and I am very impressed with the quality and attention to detail that went in to its design and manufacture. Yet I read of so many tales of woe concerning new vans, of various manufacturers so, I thought I'd see what 2017 fixed end bed model has to offer for the "bargain" price of £25K. Stepping into a twin axle Pastiche it looked very, er modern and I personally prefer the two tone overhead wooden locker doors on mine to the snazzy bright shiny (dare I say plasticky) finish of the new ones. Above the bed are three lockers and both of the outer doors cannot open fully because they foul and scrape on the wardrobe sides! The sliding doors separating the bedroom from the centre washroom have twisty pegs to keep them open, except one of them cannot do its job as its in the wrong place. Okay, just a couple of little things that hopefully will be addressed before its sold but nevertheless, in just a few short minutes I became totally unimpressed with something costing well over twice what I paid for mine! Do they really leave the factory with such poor attention to detail? I sincerely hope that the vast majority of those who have bought a new caravan are as pleased and satisfied with it as they have every right to be, but if my very limited straw poll today is anything to go by it seems to me that standards have got worse, not better over the years. Or is it just me being picky?
  6. Just had the 2nd service completed today and pleased to say it had a clean bill of health, damp readings were 14% max. the new electrical testing required now for RCD trip speed also passed. Brakes needed adjusting 4 clicks, a few chassis bolts needed a little nipping up and tyre pressure of spare was slightly down, so that's another year sorted.
  7. I have just got a 2012 Coachman Pastiche. When I picked it up my fully charged battery from my old van was installed. All switches and the alarm were off and the radio front removed, but the battery was discharged in less than six weeks. My battery was checked by the Coachman dealer and it passed their test. What is the expected life of the alarm battery, can the alarm be switched off, or should the battery be removed to conserve power? Thanks Fortyfoot

  9. Hi everyone - new to the forum - so hi. .! I have a 2015 Coachman Laser, i consider myself an experienced caravaner, - this is my 4th Laser so I am very familier with the controls and functions including the pressure switch adjustment procedure. Also technically proficient. .. However am looking for anyone else’s experience on this one. .. The van hasn’t been used for a while, - this weekend went away. hooked up on an aqua roll and am using a brand new Truma ultra flow pistol pump, I can fill the onboard tank ok, however the ultra flow pump dosent stop when the tank is 100%, I tried adjusting the pressure switch and can’t get it to stop at all. Same when using as external tank normally. Pump just clicks away even when adjuster is wound right out. I’ve purged the system of air several times, refilled and knocked the tank. The pumps are all priming fine. Then When I try to draw water from the onboard tank using the onboard Whale water system - the water just ejects straight out of the ultra flow inlet. .. nothing at the taps. Clearly the root of my pressure prob could lie here, but this is a new one on me. . After reading about stuck non return valves I purchased a new pressure switch today, but it’s made no difference. I have checked the pipe work and JG connections and all seems fine. (Other than the one on the Alde heater inlet (which is working fine)) Can anyone advise if there is another non return valve somewhere? That I can’t see! How do the tanks isolate when I choose either from the control panel? What’s the chances of the new whale pressure switch being faulty too. .? Any advice is much appreciated. ...

  12. I bought my Coachman from the Caravan Company at Northants last year, with a 12 month warranty. It sits happily on my drive so I see it every day. Last week, on one of the first days with double figure temperatures I noticed a bloom about six inches in diameter of condensation inside the front nearside window. Checked inside and all is well, no moisture or damp anywhere. It disappeared in the evening and returned the following day. Emailed Caravan Company and their immediate response was to apologise, asked me for confirmation of the window aperture dimensions and said as soon as the new one arrives I can take the van to them for replacement, or collect and fit it myself. Very pleased with the speedy and positive response. Well aware of the risks involved in attaching things to the exterior, should I tow to them, or DIM (that was meant to be "do it myself")! The fitting seems like six crosshead screws and I assume a liberal amount of mastic will be needed. So a thumbs up to the Caravan Company at Northants and I'd welcome your views on fitting and why it went like that in the first place.
  13. Hi everyone! I'm about to replace my Bessacarr 495 with new one about 2 or 3 years old. The top three on the list to replace it are (in no particular order) 1) (another) Bessacarr 495SL 2) Bailey Unicorn Madrid 3) Coachman VIP 520/4 The odd one out of these is the Bessacarr, because of its weight I'd opt for a 2 berth. The other two have side dinettes which is what I would really like. However I love the specification of the Bessacarr. I had just about decided to go for and have been actively looking for the Bailey. That was until it suddenly occurred to me that it has hardly any exterior storage. I use the bonnet storage for things like a bucket, extendable brush, levelers, the waste water carrier, and Aqua roll handles, as well as the gas. When towing I keep the chairs, table, awning, and poles in the boot. The Aqua rolls go in the shower. Disliking touring with a cluttered caravan, as there is nothing worse than climbing over everything, so like it to be clear for when I stop for tea/lunch en-route to my destination. Does anyone here own a Bailey without a bonnet, and if so where do you store your stuff? I'm aware the fixed beds have underbed storage, but don't want a fixed bed. So far first place is now the Coachman. Where do you put stuff in the Bailey?
  14. I noticed one of the small Concertina Blinds at the front of the van has become very stiff to pull down and back up even worse is pulling down and up the fly-screen when doing this the aluminium bar used to slide twists and pops out of the side rails so I contacted Coachman to ask about adjusting the cords to ease the tightness but have been advised that there is no adjustment so I need to claim for a replacement blind, I did ask if he was sure as the van was bought April 2015, he confirmed the blinds are covered for 3 years, so a quick email to the dealer (with all the emails sent and received so far) and a claim has been made, wonder how long a blind will take to get here. Anyone else had the same problems???
  15. Apologies if this has been covered before, i suspect it has. My van is a 2012 VIP 560/4 Really pleased with the caravan apart from two issues i cant resolve. (1) Battery drain i leave the battery fully topped up from at least a weekend on mains hook up, i leave it with everything switched off but when i go back in two weeks time to take it out of storage the battery is flat again so i cant use the mover. I have taken to disconnecting the battery every time but don't think i should have too. The batter was new in 2015. (2) Heating, this is now proving to be a huge bugbear with us as we caravan probably more in the winter than in the summer, certainly as much. The van is stored at home sometimes, as it is at the moment so last night i connected the EHU (flat battery again) and then set all timers etc for the heating. Initially i set the heating on electric only but when that failed to generate much if any heat i changed to electric and gas. The boiler seemed to kick in and make a different noise and the caravan started to warm up. Temperature was circa 5c when starting but couldn't get it above more than 11c. I therefore shut it down to electric only and set the stat to 22c and left it overnight. I went in this morning and only 11c. Since owning the van from July last year I have never managed to get the heater working correctly and certainly the end bathroom never gets warm. All pipes that run under the van are lagged. Any ideas at all please??
  16. Brought the van back from storage ready for our month away in June today and Just washed it then found water droplets inside the front right hand window, on investigation the water is coming from the rubber seal of the window hinge had this problem a few weeks after picking up from dealer new on the rear wash room window so I applied some black sealant to the area which cured the problem, so decided to do this window and the other 2 windows just in case. Any one else had this problem?

  18. Odd one - fully charged 12v fitted, connect to EHU - everything works fine. 13v on meter. Disconnect EHU and NOTHING works and voltmeter is static. Have checked fuses in box (bat. fuse esp.) but is there another I have missed - if so where? And is there a re-set I have missed? Could it be the alarm interfering?
  19. 1st Service carried out today by mobile AWS engineer, clean bill of health. Really happy this is the first caravan we have had from new that has not suffered damp. Lets hope it continues. . KB
