  1. Approach roads I can examine on Google Street View, although any manoeuvering difficulty with entering or within the site itself should be mentioned. I find a mention that approach roads can be tricky quite helpful as it will prompt me to check more thoroughly on Google Earth. Forewarned is forearmed.
  2. Answering the other part of the original question : Your daughter will need to take another driving test which includes towing to get the "E" licence. There are specialist driving schools which can assist with this. Search for B+E training and your location to find one.
  3. Just had another clonking problem - was again presented with stone trapped in the suspension. !
  4. Has anyone downloaded the Shell GO+ app to their smartphone (Android) and got it to work ? It certainly doesn't on mine. They seem to have abandoned a simple loyalty scheme where you presented a card and accumulated points with an electronic app that doesn't work. Geeks rule OK.
  5. In 2018 SWMBO insured with Geoffrey Insurance (via GoCompare) Renewal arrived for 2019 with renewal price less than year before and a statement saying "we ensure that our present customers ALWAYS pay less than new ones." Can't grumble about that.
  6. I can't see that the height of the dish makes that much difference unless its put in a place where people can walk in front and obstruct the signal. The only exception to this I have found is Start Bay CMC site where the land surrounding the site rises to such an extent that on many pitches it obscures line of sight to the satellite. Having tried using an old sky dish in the past I got fed up with fiddling around to get the direction and angle of elevation right. I've bought a Maxview dish which is an absolute breeze to set up.
  7. So what sort of places are used for the reversing exercise ?
  8. It seems that if you want to upgrade a "B only" licence to "B+E" you have to pass another test. Does that test entail towing ? or is it just a repeat of the original test. I don't need to do this as I already have B+E but would be interesting to know.
  9. Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) The thing that's grounded all the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft after two crashes. It's what happens when you give software ultimate control rather than people.
  10. On my previous XC70 and present V70 the ATC comes to life without the ignition being switched on. I think you need to get it checked.
  11. Just had our first caravan trip in 2019, not as far as the OP, just CMC Hurn Lane (Burnham on sea). Good walk along the beach to Burnham on Saturday.
  12. and having viewed your route on Google Earth (streetview) if there are parts of the route that are not obvious then ask about it on here. Lots of local knowledge available.
  13. We belong to both clubs but mostly use CMC. To my mind the CMC sites are generally better on a number of aspects including quality of shower blocks and roadways within the sites. On more than one occasion I have asked on a C&CC site why the roadways are made of gravel when a nearby CMC sites has tarmacked roads only to be told " we can't get planning permission" . Strange that CMC does not seem to have the same problem. Also I prefer to select my own pitch. Nevertheless, it's down to personal preferences in the end.
  14. Of the centre bathroom layouts we have seen (at the caravan shows) the Bailey seems to us to be the best. One particularly poor design point on most of them seems to be the cylindrical shower door which on every one we tried seemed to stick or jam on opening and closing. The Bailey has a swing open door which flexes a bit and swings outwards which I guess means water drips onto the carpet. Maybe the OP can comment on this. Otherwise quite a good layout if you have three or four people to accommodate and you don't want the front section people coming through to a rear bathroom.
  15. Went yesterday. Managed to avoid spending except a couple of cups of coffee. Quite taken with one of the statics. Mind you with a £132K price tag it ought to be good.
  16. Thanks for the additional info. I don't have a problem getting from Cheltenham to Buxton. Have done it several times, sometimes via Leek, occasionally via Lichfield/Ashbourne or Derby / A6. Re Buxton to Penrith I think A555 is looking favourite. Thanks again for all your advice.
  17. We plan to go to Buxton and then on to Penrith. This would seem to entail approaching Stockport northbound on the A6. Looking at the maps I can't see an easy way to join the M60 eastbound from the A6. Can anyone who lives in that area advise
  18. Not daft. Same question I was going to ask. On my rig the car engine has to be running before it will provide power to the caravan.
  19. Nevertheless, with two gas bottles and a whole load of other clobber it is easy to be nose heavy. In fact our Swift Challenger is nose heavy even with the front locker empty. Judging by what you see people putting in the front locker I reckon a large percentage of caravan owners are exceeding their car's nose weight capacity.
  20. It depends on what you have in the front locker so any figure stated is not necessarily meaningful. I would suggest you buy a good nose weight gauge as the weight could vary each time you tow.
  21. I have a V70 D4 with the 2L engine. Pulls fine (although not quite as well as the 2. 4L XC70 I used to have.)
