  1. Past hour
  2. If memory serves?? There was a very steep hill on a newish piece of road just before the old elbow.
  3. I got the impression that Chris73 was intending to change the plug on his caravan to 13 pin, not the socket on his new car to 7 pin. It would be rather backward nowadays, and disadvantageous, to replace a 13-pin anything by a 7 pin rather than the other way round. But yes, adaptors can be found in any combination of from-and-to; a bit messy though IMHO.
  4. Today
  5. We also use the Nationwide Debit card for cash withdrawals, and the nationwide Credit card for purchases.
  6. Something a little adrift with your maths, it’s 44 ft per SECOND not per minute. Anyway, I didn't make the law, I’m just explaining what it is. Andy
  7. Whilst driving at 30 mph (44 FEET per min), how do I MEASURE the 187 m BETWEEN each post. 200yds is 600 FEET meaning 600 divided by 44 TIMES 60 seconds. This is 818 seconds so something must be WRONG somewhere. Oopppssssss
  8. From a (previous) professional point of view I certainly would NOT spend (waste?) my money on any form of tracker for the simple reason they do not PREVENT (or even deter) theft. What they MIGHT be able to do is locate your caravan once it HAS been stolen, but that is by no means certain. My chosen course of action is to use highly visible mechanical means (Alko wheel and hitch locks) to prevent theft. IF my caravan ever gets stolen that’s what I pay insurance for. If stolen I don’t think I would want it back anyway. Personal choice of course but I thought I would give my views, from a coppers perspective, and the reasoning behind them. Andy
  9. Perhaps they have changed their attitude as well as their name. The local vets will only treat animals insured with the other company on a strictly cash-upon-treatment basis because of `difficulties`, and they also have a shocking history with horsebox and caravan claims. Leopard, spots etc?
  10. Best rates are with Forex traders in the city. We use Currencies Direct. But I really don't understand why anyone would need so much cash in today's world.
  11. Check that you do not have a Fuse blown. Go to fuse box, pull out each Fuse one at a time & check it visually. The caravans Volt meter should show the Battery condition, should be at least 12v +
  12. With careful use the battery should last a few days but if you have an EHU (mains connection) the onboard charger should be operating to keep the battery topped up indefinitely. Enjoy your trip away in your Dart caravan. Gordon.
  13. A tracker requires communication with GPS systems to know where it is which is difficult in a shipping container ? Dave
  14. With the mains hook up on, the battery should be charging, so will not run down. Always assuming the charger is actually working.
  15. That's exactly what we did - opened an account with Metrobank which we keep largely for holiday spending. There are no restrictions on how much you need to pay in, and no minimum number of transactions so for us it's very much a second current account. Using our Metrobank debit card we withdraw cash for small items such as coffees in a bar, market shopping, and purchases from small shops. Everything else goes on a credit card which has no fees for purchases in Euros, and which is paid off immediately it's due, so accrues no interest and never has done. Credit card spending includes 'big' items (fuel, campsite fees, supermarket shopping, restaurant meals). I'm sorry but I don't understand, these days, why anyone buys large amounts of euros before they set off and carries so much cash around with them. I would estimate that the most cash we ever have is somewhere between 50 and 100 euros (between us!).
  16. The chances of a conviction for a caravan theft are about zero! The thieves know they must be caught in the act and even then a “good” lawyer will frustrate the law. As for after its been stolen it’s just gone-either to Ireland or Poland and beyond if its newish or just down the road to the site the police only visit in sixes. Trackers? they cannot be as effective as those fitted to £60000 plus cars and they are stolen to order by the 100 every day in the UK and containered out. Of the many cars stolen in 2018 how many were tracker recovered?-78! So do nt hold your breath😀. Far better to be realistic. Be insured Do not store it on your driveway. Store it in a CASSOA Gold site Fit a pesky fiddly to fit Alko lozenge wheel lock. Do not keep anything of irreplaceable value in it eg photos letters recordings videos etc. There are 500000 mobile caravans in the UK less than 8000 are stolen annually so the odds are favourable.
  17. If there is street lighting it’s a 30 limit UNLESS there are repeater signs showing a HIGHER limit. The gap between the street lights in a 30 limit must be less than 187m (the legislation said 200 yds but that got altered due to decimalisation, it’s tge same distance though) Andy
  18. How quickly will someone find a work around for the speed limiter? People generally speed deliberately, not by accident. What will the limiter do for new car sales and sports cars? Who wants to drive a new super car only to be overtaken by a 20 year old corsa? make police chases less dramatic macafee2
  19. Thanks all for replies 😊
  20. We have our pet insurance with the Insurance Emporium - they have been great. Obviously different to van insurance but they have settled our ongoing claims with minimum fuss. Only problem so far has been with the Vet’s paperwork.
  21. Delayed until late 2019 due to financial problems at the German shipyard after penalties due to late delivery of Irish ferries new ferry. John.
  22. A better deal. Open a current account at MetroBank. You just go in with suitable identification and come out 30 mins later with an account AND a debit card - they make it whilst you wait! Then dump some money into it and off on your hols. You can use the debit card to withdraw cash anywhere in Europe at the Mastercard bulk rate with no other charges whatsoever. You can open the account on line if you wish but it can only be a single account - if you want a joint account then you both have to go into a branch. For the OP in Glos the nearest branches are Bristol, Bath, or Swindon and they are open 8-20h M-F, 8-18h Sat, and 11-17h Sun. Feedback I have heard is that they are very good. There is another organisation called StarlingBank (that some people like even more) that do similar.
  23. It had the shoes chamfered & cuts across the shoes to disperse dust. It just been serviced and had one new brake drum fitted. Not because of the squeel but due to the cast not right on the edge of the drum... German engineering aye 🤣. I'll contact AL-KO, Bailey & the dealer because this is totally unacceptable.
  24. We always get the best deals on offer for euros from MSE site.... https://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/holiday-money/?_ga=2.267857486.1520046735.1555703012-599703707.1553349623
  25. For anyone else in a similar situation (wanting to connect a 7 pin trailer to a 13 pin socket on their car) rather than changing the socket on the car it’s possible to buy a cheap converter that fits into the 13 pin socket on your car and allows a 7 pin trailer plug to be connected. https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/13-to-7-Pin-Trailer-Truck-Electric-Towing-Converter-Tow-Bar-Plug-Adaptor-Socket/1394377219?iid=123457732477&chn=ps&ul_ref=https%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F710-134428-41853-0%2F2%3Fmpre%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.ebay.co.uk%252Fp%252F13-to-7-Pin-Trailer-Truck-Electric-Towing-Converter-Tow-Bar-Plug-Adaptor-Socket%252F1394377219%253Fiid%253D123457732477%2526chn%253Dps%26itemid%3D123457732477%26targetid%3D594652137480%26device%3Dt%26adtype%3Dpla%26googleloc%3D1007222%26poi%3D%26campaignid%3D1701291813%26adgroupid%3D69977094367%26rlsatarget%3Dpla-594652137480%26abcId%3D1140496%26merchantid%3D118977207%26gclid%3DEAIaIQobChMI0LTPvPPc4QIVzbXtCh3KAQQJEAQYCyABEgKAufD_BwE%26srcrot%3D710-134428-41853-0%26rvr_id%3D1939967392732%26rvr_ts%3D371acf7116a0ad791a35b6ecffa813d6 Andy
  26. Does anyone know when ? The word on the street says "after September 2019"
