Well done, interesting solution to your problem. The awful stresses a 4wd mover puts into the axles, chassis and tyres when trying to spin the caravan is the reason we only ever had a single axle mover on all our twins. Very ingenious, I'm sure you will develop the unit over time

Hi all. I have been on the caravan side if this forum for many years. We've decided due to many reasons to change to a Motorhome and really looking forward to picking up our new toy next month. I've now got to sort out insurance. What I'm looking for are recommendations based on first hand claims experience. All the insurers get 5* reviews when they are taking your money but can be lacking when the unthinkable happens to your pride and joy. Price isn't really a factor, in reality the difference between the cheapest and dearest comes down to a few pence a day, I just need to know that when it comes to the crunch as long as I've kept my side of the bargain regarding security etc I'm not going to have to fight to get settlement. Thanks in advance TD

In need of new storm straps for our Magnum and Capri, 6 in total. I seem to remember someone providing a link for straps identical to the Isabella ones but almost half the price. Can anyone help? TIA , TD

We are brand new to caravaning and need some help!
Tuningdrew replied to steve spain's topic in Caravan Chat
Nothing much to add to the sage advice given apart from endorsing the recommendations for dedicated electrics on the towbar, preferably from in your case, Volvo. Don't worry about buying all your equipment new. You can spend a small fortune on water carriers, steps, cables, hoses etc. Where these items can be had for a fraction of the price on FB marketplace, Ebay etc. Folding chairs ,tables, awnings are out there if you look. I just bought a pair of brand new, Milenco Grand Aero Mirrors from FB for a third of the retail price as an example. One other thing I'd say is take decent cutlery, cups, glasses and crockery. There's only the two of you and food is much nicer served on proper plates and drinks in a nice glass or mug -
Car and caravan recovery whilst on holiday in France.

With Red Pennant this doesn't become an issue as its totally geared up for car and caravan recovery. Its a no brainer to me. -

Personally I wouldn't travel with my caravan in Europe without Red Pennant from CMC. It would cover the scenario mentioned above and many others . Had cause to use it once, absolutely painless experience. -
Navara Pick-Up air suspension mod for towing....
Tuningdrew replied to Ukzero's topic in Towcar Talk
Considering this for the rear of our 2020 Ssangyong Musso. It has the dual rate rear springs like the Navara but with the hard top, tow bar and rear step plus the fittings permanently fitted for all the caravan stuff, the primary light spring part is permanently coil-bound. I'd be interested in seeing the installation. We had a Navara prior to the SsY, wonderful bit of kit, the Musso has been every bit as good even though the bed is around 11" shorter still swallows all the caravan kit with ease, and love the heated and cooled seats and steering wheel. -
Agree 100%. Poled awnings are only a divorce in a bag if you haven't got a clue how to put one up properly.

Have a look at Lanoguard rustproofing. I've bought some to treat my recently refurbished ML Mercedes.

Navara, excellent choice. -
It was quite happy with a very large tri axle closed race car transporter with a ton and a half of GT40 plus spares. Towed better than our Amarok in fact.
-
For the same money I'd have the Aston Martin DBX

Going from a caravan to a 'motorhome' comes up in conversation occasionally but at the moment we are happy with our TA Conqueror and Ssangyong Musso to pull it, (also our daily driver) One thing that's always puzzled me however is the staggering price of a VW Transporter conversion when you compare it to a coach built?
-
Froli curved ramps didn't work on my Swift TA, not enough room between the axles.

I'd imagine that if the axle has failed then hard road shocks would be transmitted into the bodyshell causing the problem.
