Dogs On Caravan Club Sites

I have just arrived home today from Moreton in Marsh CC site & admit to be absolutely astounded by the number of dogs allowed on site. There must have been as many dogs as people with 2 being the average in the dog owning vans. One van near me had 5, another 3 & the way some of them snarled & barked at passing dog walkers or aqua roll fillers without admonition was very disconcerting.

A couple of lazy afternoons spent reading were spoiled by yapping & whining pets with no effort made by their owners to silence them.

Two questions occurred to me,

Why do owners feel the need to cram so many animals into a small area, van & pitch ?

Why does the Caravan Club not charge for more than one dog ?

I realise that I am probably in the minority with Caravan Club members & am going to get some serious flak but surely one dog is enough for any one.

Not from me. .

I love dogs and have owned them in the past, but I noticed this during our stay on CL's this year, so many anti-social dogs and their owners who do not seem bothered that their dogs are causing mayhem, I wish their were more dog free sites.

Maybe they should have only a certain amount of pitches which allow dogs on so to limit the number that are allowed on at one time. I am fond of dogs but too many spoils the feel of a site.

No argument from me, IMO there should be a limit of 2 dogs per caravan / Motorhome .

Recently stopped on a club site and the motorhome three pitches down from us had 5 border terriers

which yapped constantly .

Eventually the warden had to tell the owners that unless they silenced them they would have to

leave .

They left the next day

We have 2 dogs & to be honest I think it's 2 too many. They are small yappy type dogs & not a touch on our old English that we had before these 2. Why you would feel the need to own 5 is beyond me.

I do own 4 kids though they don't tend to snarl at anyone bar their parents. ........

I am an owner of 3 dogs which come with us on holiday. I can honestly say they NEVER bark or make a noise when being walked or if anyone passes the awning. They are kept in large cages and are well behaved. People are always commenting on how well behaved the dogs are.

I agree nothing is worse than dogs yapping day/night. Recently we were on a site and a couple had gone out and left their dog in a tent and it cried constantly. An hour after they had left I went to the tent concerned for the dog because of the temperature and when I opened the tent to see the dog it was so hot it was a wonder the poor thing survived. My friend and I contacted the Warden who came and checked on the dog, who was in a cage, and unzipped the tent so there was sufficient air circulating in the tent. This was 11 am the owners arrived back at 4 pm. I immediately went and told them the warden had been checking on the dog and that if we hadn't opened the tent the dog would have died from "heat exhaustion". The young couple apologised. Apparently that day another dog was removed from being tied up on a stake outside a caravan, as the owners had gone off all day, and was taken into the compound and looked after. Why are some owners so irresponsible where dogs are concerned.

we have 2 border terrorist, when we first started going away with them we was a bit worried as they havnt been socialised with other dog as we live right out in the sticks and some times never bump into any one when out walking for hours, they used to be agressive towards other dogs, but now after going away over this year they have become quite passive towards othe dogs, they never bark now but it does my head in when on every site we have been on it says to keep dogs on leads at all times and the amount of people that just do not take any notice, who do they think they are, if they walk past our pitch with dogs off of the leads then i just tell them to get dogs on leads, dont beat aroud the bush and just say what i think

There are plenty of dog free sites out there. We have three dogs and they are all rescue dogs and yes, they do bark sometimes, when they hear other dogs or people but we shut them up. I don't see why we should be limited to 1 dog - after all, one constantly barking dog would be more annoying than 3 quiet ones. I am going to resist commenting on children as we use child free sites ;)

I do respect other peoples peace and quiet - I take them out one at a time for their night time "walkies" as they are less likely to make a noise. They are kept on a lead when on site and I always "pick up".

Fender, our van does not smell of dog - the seats have removable washable covers on and the carpets have been removed. When we sold our previous van, comments were passed about how clean and fresh it was - and the dogs had been coming with us for several years. I can, however, imagine the odour in some vans with some of the dogs and owners I see around. :o

This post reminds me of another problem.

Dog owners who keep shouting at their dogs to be quiet.

We were unfortunate enough to get a single dog, either a shorn St. Bernard or Mastiff type.

It is a guard dog so It guarded, against other dogs or anyone that got near the dogs territory.

It rushed to the end of its leash with a baying bark reminiscent of the hound of the Baskervilles,

at any incursion, even the ones it could not see behind the hedge in the access lane were

subjected to "attack" The people on the pitch opposite complained first to the owner then to the CC

wardens nothing was done. One of the wardens offered it a hand to sniff by way of making friends

he just managed to snatch it away before the teeth clashed together. In mitigation it was darned hot

but the family had one child just off being a toddler, barely a mouthful for an unhappy dog.

They can't be enabled on an iPad, just have to type the code in for which ever smiley, the full list can be found here

I've just been away and there was a benign dog in the van next to me who never made a squeak. However the stupid pillock in the van opposite would walk his dog past it three or four times a day on one of these extending leads so that his dog could have a good go.

There were at least five other directions he could have gone to avoid the other dog but I'm almost sure it was deliberate

Training leads   some sites do not allow them

unless used at a short leash setting for this very reason

Dulverton the old ladies use the long lead to allow their

dogs to perform out of sight behind the hedge by the

small loo block
