Now have a Ceed 1. 6d and was thinking in getting a cheap wee light weight . .. Just For Me . .... Why are Eribas so expensive ?? Operating with 1340kg Max but would rather be under 1100 kg . ... A wee Thomson sitting in farm clean and dry looking. .....Gonni chap the door ??

Eribas are undoubtedly expensive but we wouldn't want anything else . They tow so well and can be turned around in the tightest of spots. Not only do they last into a good old age but depreciation is minimal infact if we were to sell ours now we could get more for it than we paid new nearly 5 years ago. We bought ours as a little van to use to see if we liked the camping world with the intention of one day buying a Hymer motorhome. We didn't anticipate falling in love with our little Eriba so although we need a bigger van or motorhome we can't bring ourselves to part with our little beauty. we don't have a washroom or water heater and there's not much floor space as we have a fixed bed but non of that matters at the moment.

Hhmmmm ?? Cannie see me spending that kind of dosh to be honest. ... Although my van is more or less gone, a just can't bare not having the freedom at a moments notice. ....... This wee Thomson could be a "Project"..... The Farmer collects tractors and the wee Soul is in amongst the Graveyard looking for life. ... Will check the floor and offer him a Deal as seen . ...... Hopefully cheap as thrupenny bits . .... ^_^

Smeesh have you called into Jandi the Eriba dealer at Addiewell near West Calder? It is hard to describe! An absolute 'coup' but the couple who run it are sooooo enthusiastic. All their stuff is newish so maybe out of our budget but worth a visit just for the experience!

Smeesh, what a great idea to give one of the best vans ever made a new lease of life.

But---Thomsons are not light!! Most have proper wood floors which are heavy as is their good construction.

Take a good look at chassis as i think they were all steel and not galvanised.

My first van was a Glenmore which someone had converted to 4 berth---what a cracker but it made a 1500cc Hillman Hunter work for it's corn.

Best of luck.

Cheers Chaser,

Just wish Mrs Smeesh was as enthusiastic. Have been met with muffed comment . .... Have joined the Thomson Forum for advice and think I have found a Thomson Glen built for the smaller vehicles and had wheels that could inter change with a Mini apparently. .. They reckon about 600kg but surprisingly heavy on the nose. ... Well with in the Kia Ceeds range. ..... Plus the fact is the van maybe not for sale but is well hidden,so maybe had no offers. .. ??? All original inside from Gas Mantles, fire and a two ringed cooker with toaster. ... Only damage without being inside is cracked quarter window and a wee dink offside rear. .... Damp ??? Floor ?? Was gonni pop down today as Moffat is under an hour away just to see if its for sale. .... ? But wind, snow and sleat have hampered my outing so staying put . ... Will take some pictures when I do go down. I know the owner as he is one of mynpart time HGV driving customers the only reason I found this wee baby. ..........

If you get it before the 9th how about bringing it to the show??? Just to let the manufacturers see how a real caravan is built!!!

Buy me a dram and i'll give you some tips on how to be a good HGV driver LOL LOL

This is Papa Pip's website on the Thomson Caravans.

Buying an old but basically sound van is the way to go.

That way you can convert it to suit your own needs and there are enough secondhand/scrap caravan dealers around that you can pick up the bits you need to make a very cosy wee unit.

Thanks Lobeyd but already joined for some advice . ... Still working on Mrs Smeesh on my project idea. On the little research I have done so far could be a very cheap little unit. .. When I think of the money I have spent on vans over the years. ....

Next door to my workshop at Kilcreggan, there is a wee Thomson sitting in a garden that I am sure you could have for nowt.

But whether it is worth doing anything with, I have no idea. I think it has been sitting there for rather a long time.

Well nicked down to Moffat the day and approached The Farmer and asked him about the wee Thomson. .. Was open to offers his price being between a 100 and £150 ?? After close inspection inside and out the " Wee Bachell " has seen better days absolutely rotten with damp inside. .. Paneling round the windows all rotten, even pushed ma finger through . . Floor was solid and had all original fittings and fixtures which apparently all worked . .. Gas mantle etc. .. Said he would take £50 . .. If I had a large garage for storage would take it on but just would not know where to start with this auld lady. Think I will leave this one to the professionals. ... Took some pics . .....

Wee update on the Thomson i had my eye on. ... Was down the other day in the lorry and noticed she was GONE !! Asked the farmer what the script with the van was ? Chap offered him £200 to take it away. . Deal done. Hooked up and as he pulled away the A Frame came away from the chassis. .. SO ? farmer welded the A Frame back on and accepted £80. .. Good luck to new owner but going by my pictures very big project. .. Saying that was all original inside so maybe a pound or two to be made on spare parts. ......
