Hi All

Trying to help a friend, does anyone tow with a Nissan Qashqai Crossover 1.6 dCi Acenta 2WD 5dr. (diesel model)

The Kerbside weight of the Qashqai is 1590Kg and the towing weight is 1400kg.

His caravan has a MTPLM of 1326kg

I am not so sure this car will do the job ??

Any comments appreciated

Thanks
Mike

Its got the weight and if its the same engine as ive just googled then its got 128bhp which shouldbe fine.

I was surprised at the kerb weight, as it is actually heavier than my mondeo, albeit only a little.

When they hit a hill, it will run out of steam and really battle to tow the caravan. They better not go touring in Wales! :D

We have a 59 plate 1.5dci as a run around very good on fuel economy and nippy and heavey but ours has a tow limit of 1200 kg and I am not sure I would want to tow with that weight behind it. Unless they have changed the specs drastically the 6 speed gearbox is very close range and you will be up and down the gears at the slightest incline and the rear suspension is very soft, put 2 adults in the back or a couple of bags of compost in the boot and you know about it . I personally would look elsewhere as there are some very capable cars out there.

Not sure where you got your figures from but according to Nissans brochure that model has a towing limit of 1200kg. It's the 2 litre manual versions which have a limit of 1400Kg

I did have a look as well but he did say 1.6 dci not the 1.5 dci which looks like a new model just hope they have altered the rear suspension with it.

Unless I'm mistaken, the max hitch load is only 50kg.

I get the impression that Nissan aren't pushing the cashcow as a tow car, looking at the stats.

.
Can't agree more

128 bhp = very slowly tugging a 1590Kg vehicle and His caravan has a MTPLM of 1326kg

*Exclamation*, really just stay on the flat.

Are you guys being serious. My Mondeo has a kerbweight of 1560KG, my van MTPLM is 1430KG. My Mondeo has 125bhp and it flies up all but the biggest of hills in 5th gear at 60 mph, and on steeper hills dropping down to 4th soon has it back up at 60 mph.

SamP, you are comparing two different cars. My son had a Mondeo that was an excellent tow car. The Cashcow however is a different beast, better to be guided by those who have experience of the car in question. I have had identical cars in the past, one towed beautifully, the other was a cow. The kerb weight could be less than he thinks, the brochure states a minimum of 1498 and a maximum of 1566 so not sure where the 1590 figure comes from. Would need to get it on a weigh bridge to be sure.

Max breaked trailer weight of 1400kg

Can't see any reference to max towball weight.

It's a close match

I was only referring to the comments re engine power

Thanks Guys,

I will pass on the comments which generaly fall into what I said to him that I had my doubts that the Qashqai is underpowered to tow a 1320 mtplm caravan, especially when you hit the hills as boy there are some corkers around!!

The 1.6 dci has 236 pound feet of torque, along with 128 bhp, is more than capable of towing a 1326kg caravan.

My first xtrail only had 134 bhp, and 231 pound feet, with a kerb weight of 1650kg.

I towed a 1333kg caravan for 4 years with no power problems.

So i'm not sure why so many negative comments re the power??

Its whether the car is rated to tow 1400kg or 1200kg that matters.

Just done a experimental match on what towcar ..... using the info for the car... and roughly guessing what type of van... got the MTPLM to within 6kg... Comes out at an 96% match... and the CC outfit match comes out at 98%...

Doesn't look good....

Hi Sam, As a previous Mondeo owner I can say the Mondeo is a very capable tug.
The only thing I say bad about the Mondeo, is how it will eat front tyres.
The Cashcow isn't even in the same league.

but on a plus note the qashqai does have a towing plug in the boot so they have thought about it as a towing vehicle, plus when you wire in a non dedicated 12n plug you dont need any relays or buzzers just piggy back onto the wires in the plug and when indicatng with a trailer on the back an extra light comes on the dash.
