It might be a little further than you planned but the Welcome Break at Gretna (northbound) has a dedicated caravan area for overnight stays. It is well away from the lorry parking. It used to be about £7 for the night.

Probably not far enough North for you but when we were travelling from Plymouth to Stranraer we stopped at a CL at Gailey which is just North of Birmingham (junction 12 on M6). The site was very convenient being only about 3 miles in off the motorway - see page 403 (the highlighted site) in the CC handbook. Nice clean little site with wc.

Try Forton Services just south of Lancaster. There is a car/caravan park on the left, adjacent to the motel. This a very quiet area and well used by caravan and motorhomes. make sure you pay your dues and dsiplay your ticket though or "jobsworth" will delight in knocking you up to see if you have paid.

Tesco, Carlisle is just off the M6 and open 24 hours Mon-Sat. Cheap, relatively, fuel as well.

Westmorland services at Tebay on the M6 is probably the best motorway services in the UK. Maybe it is because it is not operated by one of the major chains that makes the difference.

I cannot vouch for the caravan park as I have never used it, but I would guess it would be good for an overnight stop.

Brian
