Hi all

We have a Compass Corona 524 2005 caravan which has a sony car stereo built in and also 2 small lights that can be used off the battery. Recently i have noticed when the van is not on mains supply neither the lights or the stereo come on.

Do these only work off battery when the van is plugged in to mains to charge?

Thanks,

Conor

We have a Compass Corona of 2003 vintage, also with a Sony stereo installed (and recently upgraded). Both the stereo and the 12v reading lights at the front work then the van is on battery (i.e. no mains cable connected at all)

I wonder why these aren't working then? Could it be a fuse?

Does everything else work ok on 12V? Other lights, water pump etc? Wouldn't imagine it to be a fuse as wouldn't expect the radio to work when on hook up either.

I can't test the pump as I have no water in the system. None of the other lights work except when connected to the mains.

I have made sure that the switch at the door is set to battery but get nothing.

Is the battery connected?
Sounds daft, but maybe it is all working off the 12v charger / PSU and the battery is either not connected properly or is dead.

There is a bank of twelve fuses protecting various 12 volt circuits the first one shown on the circuit diagram is 15 amp and is on the battery positive. I do not know where these fuses are located within the Corona.

If this 15amp fuse is blown the 12 volt equipment in the van will still work but only when plugged into mains running off the charger.

If you don't have the wiring diagram for your van it is in the Handbook available here http://www.elddis.co...er-handbook.pdf page 90

I have checked the battery with a multimeter and it has 12.6V across the terminals. I have checked the battery connections and they all seem secure. So not really sure whats wrong.

We had a mover fitted a few weeks ago but im not convinced it was working properly even before that was done. It works okay.

Well done that man!

I checked the fuse box under the front seat and the Van Batt fuse had blown. Luckily I had bought spares for something else and put it in and bingo, all working as they should.

Shame there isnt a thank you button!! :) It would be pressed many times over.

Have you checked the 15 amp fuse? Even with this blown you will still measure 12.6 volts across the battery terminals.
Have you checked if any of the other circuits in the van work?
You say you have no water on the van but if you open a tap then the pump tell tale will light, also the battery condition indicator should be registering something.
I think that is also a light system Green/Amber/Red in the Corona.

Sorry about this but we were typing together.

People might talk!!!

Glad you got it fixed.
