Hi folks.

I was wondering if anyone had an idea as to what this problem may be:

I have a Thetford cassette toilet, with an electric flush pump.

What I expected to happen is that on site I would connect up the water, which is working everywhere else, and then press the flush button for a period of time until the 7ltr tank for the toilet fills up and then water swills into the toilet bowl.

What happens is that when I press the button, the motor for the toilet flush whirs but nothing else happens. This does trigger the external whale pump into action.

This seemed to work on my last outing (which was also my first outing after getting the van), but perhaps I didn't understand how things worked last time - perhaps the tank already had water in it and I should be filling up the tank from the outside of the van. Perhaps I have an airlock.

If anyone has any advice I would be grateful.

Regards,

Steve

Well, I'm the 'newest of the new' and maybe your Thetford is a different model to mine, but I have to fill the flush tank manually. Then when the flush button is pressed, the flush pump within the flush tank pumps water down into the bowl...

...or at least it would, if I could manage to get my replacement flush pump to work in the tank - it does in a bucket, just not in the tank...

Steve

Without knowing what model of Thetford toilet you have it is rather difficult to be specific but the models I have knowledge of have a flush water tank which is normally filled through an external fill point.

The following Thetford link will help you identify the model you have installed.

Go to the outside of your van where the toilet is. Somewhere in that area will be a small door.
This will be your filling point for the flush tank.

That's the way our van works.

Thanks very much everyone.

I guess I must have misunderstood the dealer when he explained the van to me.

I thought that it pumped the water from the mains into the tank.

I'll go an fill it up now thanks.

Absolutely, fill from the outside, but the bit thats confusing me is

This does trigger the external whale pump into action.

It wasn't right.

It was a typo - I meant to say doesn't activate the whale.

Steve
