Rally site,we're very simple people,all we want is a few pubs,an indian/italian/chinese restaurant,and all within walking/cycle distance. Kevin Not too worried about noise,is Bamburgh close enough to walk into,looked on Google maps and it looks like a bus stop near the gates,does that sound about right? Thanks for info,all welcome. I would recommend the Castle Hotel in Bamburh, turn right as you go in the door for the "upmarket" seating area. Left takes you into the "tap roomish" area. If you come out of the Castle Hotel, turn right and go up the street the pub a few doors up is nice (can't remember the name), it is a bit more upmarket where as the Castle is a bit more traditional decor. Bamburgh Castle is well worth a look around. Park in the castles own car park at the top of the hill, it costs about £1 all day. Beaches are fantastic and run for miles. South from Bamburgh is Seahouses which is a nice little harbour if you want a walk around (few amusements, etc). Try the 19th Hole at the Crazy golf course (top of the harbour) for a coffee overlooking the sea. Boat trips around the islands to see the birds and seals are very popular. Make sure there is little wind and the sea looks calm at this time of year though unless you have a strong stomach and warm clothes. If you carry on through seahouses and follow the signs for Beadnell the beach here is really nice and has parking and toilet facilities. There is a pub on the edge of the village called the Craster arms which was refurbed last year and serves good food. Lindasfarne - Holy Island is popular to the North. Please check tide times though as you don't want to get stuck on the island. At least four or five people a year wreck their cars trying to go over the causeway when the tide is in or coming in. The biggest town in the area is Berwick-upon-Tweed, this also has good transport links. The Leaping Salmon just over the bridge going into town is nice and good value (Wetherspoons). As is the Italian restaurant on the opposite side of the road. To the West are the Cheviot Hills and Kielder, loads of walks, bike trails, boat trip around Kielder water. There is also a small leisure centre here as well as a tourist information centre with info. about the reservoir. There is a bus service which runs up and down the coast road but I can't remember exact details. You can get buses all over from Seahouses, including into Scotland and down to the Metro Centre. neil2 Posted April 13, 2009 Share Posted April 13, 2009 i live in berwick, bamburgh has 2 good pubs, the main one in centre of village has a restaurant 'bistro' or bar meals and was ok, also if going to holy island visit 'barn at beal' is a cafe on the left on road to island, may have the bird of prey centre also if has moved yet. also in same area- on A1 'lindisfarne inn- new convertion of a decent old pub - the 'plough' to a more modern gastro pub good food and reasonable black sheep ale. visit craster- south of bamburgh - worth a visit- a small fishing harbour and excellent kippers. also short walk along coast to dunstaburgh castle. golf course in bamburgh also is excellent. seahouses is good for fish and chips- old shop on main street. berwick is well worth a walk around the elizabethan walls, museum and gallery. . . ,. also boat trips to farne islands are available from seahouses- seal watching and puffins prob nesting now. enjoy your trip, in bored with coast perhaps head inland- nice circular walk from st cuthberts cave around Kyloe/ belford area, or further inland to wooler and cheviots, PM me if need further info, Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
