Drawing Air

I had a problem with the pump drawing air while we were away fortunately I carry spares, I thought I'd found the problem with the split in the outer pipe then saw the broken fitting when I inspected further.

Even though I sterilise and descale my system regularly the last picture shows how much crud is inside the pumps pipework.

The pipe that the cable runs through does not does not carry any flow of water so is not representative of any of the other pipework. Still a bit of a surprise what you are putting into your drinking water supply tank.

When I've changed pumps I've never had any crud on the cable, but I did soak the lot apart from the socket end in domestos at least once a year.

I took my pump apart to clean it some years ago, and it is surprising how dirty it is inside!

Recently we had some strange goings-on with a water system that has been reliable for years. Uneven flow from taps; water varying in temperature; shower going from warm to very hot; pump running on.

All down to the little plastic tags that are supposed to keep the pump away from the bottom of the water container. The pump had sucked itself to the bottom because all the 3 tags were missing. Normality restored with a couple of small stainless screws.

Sterilising the system at best only ensures the nasties are dead, not eliminated.

It was the broken fitting that was held together by the pipe that concerned me, I fully expected to find a build up of dead algae and crud although not quite as much as that.
