Carver Cascade 2

Recommended Posts

On getting this other van, the seller said the water heater was broken.

Everything else works, and decided what I can do with the unit.

Seems that the gas burner works fine, as does the element. what's happened is that the tie rod sometime in the past has corroded and snapped, leaving a stub inside the heat exchanger unit.

Also the previous owner tried to extract it from the base, but to no avail. Its seems corroded in. Will try to get it out, get a new rod and it will be fully working.

Thinking of drilling it out.

Any advice?

Unless you know exactly what you are doing, leave it to someone who does.

It is very easy to completely ruin the unit if you don't know what to do, and just drilling is NOT the way to go.

It takes complete stripping of all items attached to the unit, so replacement inlet and outlet fittings, possibly the fusible plug if it is compromised then heat, and a lot of it but in a specific place and not too much to melt the aluminium, but almost.
