shoz09
Travelling today, fair bit of localised heavy rain caused some puddles on roadside. Just getting bedding out from under seating and it's soaked. Could this water have come in from going through the puddles/quite big at times - could it have come in through the floor vents? Any suggestions on what to look for and how to address please? Caravan is a Swift Challenger 530 (2006). Hoping someone can help me solve this issue. Glen and Les
My guess is it's blown through a window and run down into the bed box. Any signs where water has poured down the wall? Alternatively, is there an exterior locker door accessing the space, which may have not been firmly shut? Griff
Had similar happen once with water blown past a side window seal. Opened the window, shuffled it around a bit on its hinges, relocked it and it hasn't happened since. shoz09
The window was closed and sealed, wall under window dry as a bone, also front of caravan had a driving cover on it. BUT you got me thinking, and 6 am this morning tracked it down to a crack in the hot water pipe coming from the water tank (van obviously not as level as I thought either) - don't think that I can repair so will have to wait until I get back to storage. Thanks for your time, pity I can post a picture here to show.

Easy T
I had exactly the same thing a couple of years ago. I think it is quite common. I always drain hot tank before leaving a site. The reason that I suspect it is common as I went into a small caravan dealer. When showed him an image of the part I followed him into a small parts store. He had a box with a dozen in. Easy fix. 2 Quote Alan 2005 Nissan X-trail 4WD diesel and Swift Charisma 540 2012 Lunar Clubman ES 2018 Lunar Clubman ES

Also possible it may just need a new O-ring and re-seating properly on the pipe? Quote 2012 Bailey Pegasus 2 Rimini towed by 2019 Ford Galaxy Titanium X, 2.0 EcoBlue, 8 speed auto. Brecon
Quote " Also possible it may just need a new O-ring and re-seating properly on the pipe?" If you look at the picture there is a nasty crack just by the grey locking nut, so no easy O ring job. Getting the old one off is easy, undo the grey nut and slide it back along the pipe along with the bits you find inside, a grey compressor and O ring. The other end to the red pipe is a push fit, push the collar towards the main body of the item and pull off the red pipe. pull the clear pipe from its spigot. Replace in reverse, put the clear pipe in place, push the fitting onto the red pipe, slide the O ring and compressor up to the fitting, tighten the grey nut hand tight, DO NOT overtighten it. shoz09
Thanks for these instructions, dealers where I'm on holiday didn't have part in stock but I have asked my local place to get it for me, the instructions make a lot of sense based on my investigation of problem. Interesting you mention not overtighten as the grey nut presently on is definitely tighter than hand tight, thanks for that know-how. Picture of part ordered attached - trade price shown my price will probably be c£40. Edited August 4, 2017 by shoz09
Easy T
When I tried to undo the plastic nut the fractured pipe sheared and so I made some cuts with a junior hacksaw and then inserted a screwdriver into a cut and twisted to split the nut. I was on site and had to borrow an additional spanner. Easy T
£26 on line. I bought a second one last year. (Had a leak and before gaining access thought 'Hmmm same problem it was a leaking joint however). I paid £22 then at a caravan dealer. daveat92
It may be nothing to do with it, but after driving in very heavy rain I noticed the carpet was wet near the wheel arch. I traced the source to the mastic seal between the plastic wheel arch and the underside of the van having broken down. This allowed the water being sprayed up from the wheel to get in. I had to remove the wheel arch, which is a large plastic moulding hidden from sight behind a cosmetic plastic "skirt" on the side of the van, clean off the old mastic and apply new, then refit. Problem cured.
Steve&Rose
We also found water under the front seat. Turned out to be the waste downpipe under the kitchen sink which had separated from the plughole so, each time we emptied anything down the sink, it ran straight out to the floor. This was on our Swift Challenger and following further investigation, the pipe was never glued/sealed in the first place. It further developed that this was the same on every Swift caravan and was a well known and debated problem on the swift forum.

A similar thing happened in my Bailey Ranger when damp bedding was found in the bedding locker under the front seat. In my case the water was traced to a disconnected elbow in the waste pipe. The pipe is to the rear of the slim cupboard where the table is stored which is next to the locker where the water was found. Fortunately the water was clean and did not damage the bedding.
