Caravan Jack

THe best option is to get the ALKO one with heavy duty brackets fitted to the chassis (it's an easy DIY job).

The even better option is to make sure that you are a memeber of a breakdown service and get them to come and do it for you.

The last time I tried to change a wheel was on the M25, in the pouring rain in the dark - fortunately the Police came to my aid as it was bluddy scary - never again

I rely on the breakdown services as it is a heavy item to cart around and it is not a job I wish to do if I have a puncture.

Do i need to buy one ? or can you normally use the car jack ?

Er, "No" to both questions but to clarify. ..

You don't have to buy a jack for your caravan - but it would be advisable if you ever intend to change a wheel yourself.

A jack supplied with your car is unlikely to be of any use with a caravan.

With appropriate precautions you could use a general purpose jack but there are jacks made specifically for caravans that require the fitting of a "receiver" to the chassis.

Just a bit of advice. Keep the car connected to the caravan when jacking.

Your car jack will not be of any use. I have fitted an Alko jack which should do the job. I the past I have carried a small trolley jack which performed well but it was a bit heavy. The aluminium racing trolley jacks are a more reasonable weight but tend to be more expensive the the ordinary items but not so pricey an an Alko jack. Your choice. :)

In answer to OP it depends on circumstances really. We have a side jack that came with the van, but so far has never been used ( & hopefully never will be ) but our van has the ALKO wheel lock & getting that lined up when the vans on our drive is almost impossible due to tight space, so I invested in a cheap 2 ton trolley jack so I can rotate the wheel to fit the lock.

Horses, courses & all that. ........
