Marks On Window

If you look at the picture carefully you will see marks on the inside part of the window and also the same marks on the outside part of the window. On a cloudy day it looks as if they are dirt marks however you can only see it from an angle. The window is nine months old and a towing cover is sued when travelling. One thing we did notice that arriving on a site 350 miles later on a hot day, the window was concave, that is pushed in. As it cooled down it popped back out again.

Any one with any suggestions on the issue as it seems the window will need to be replaced? Thanks.

It looks like the two inner surfaces are rubbing together, a fault known about in some of the larger front windows on some vans but not as far as I know with the smaller side windows. If it is this problem they are usually replaced as faulty items.

More opinions will come along soon but hope this helps.

Yep I've been there too. Window on my Orion replaced under warranty at 9 months for this very reason.

As said by others it is flexing of the two panes where they impact. I have had it on two windows.

 

Bow wave slam and the associated big changes in pressure from passing vehicles is I believe a big part of the problem.

 

A towing cover will only increase the "sail area" and therefore must make for more chance of it happening on front windows. Plus one could well absorb more solar heating and trap this further softening the acrylic plastic used, which after all is a thermoplastic for moulding.

We had 5 front windows (centre of 3) on our 2008 Swift Conqueror - Yes, FIVE!

 

They touched and rubbed as we drove - very common, all replaced under warranty.

 

Now, no front window

Window dented on the first two trips with my Orion in 2013. Dealer said it was a known problem but only replaced if inside surfaces scratched. Bought a Purple Line Aerofoil for the car roof. No more window problems and far fewer bugs to clean off after each journey.

Caravans have had plastic Windows since 1978. Wonder if they're making the material thinner to save weight/money or both,which is causing flexing under air pressure and heat. Also caravan fronts seem to be more upright these days which could cause the air to press on the window more,rather than flow over it.

Plus we tow faster than the vehicles of 1978 could and the approaching HGV is going much faster and probably features a squarer front end? Forces are related to the square of the velocities involved!

 

"We" seem to like the windows to be less bulbous so the inter-pane separation becomes less, so more likely to "kiss".

We've got an early Bailey Pursuit with a large single front window. So far haven't had any problems,but I can see it flexing in the rear view mirror and check it regularly for marks.

Thanks for all the replies. We normally use a front towing cover however on the 350 mile trip at 50mph where the window was concave on arrival at the site, we never used the front towing cover. Seems that the issue is the two panes rubbing together causing the marks as the marks are quite central on the window.

Recently, the makers of the windows have increased the air gap between the two sheets to prevent this happening. They aren't sealed double glazed, incidentally - just paired sheets.

Perhaps if they were sealed, the outer would not be able to bow inwards?

On our caravan there is a sticker advising you to leave the blind open and we have the concertina type blind and not the reflective type however a valid point. Didn't caravan manufacturers realise that at some point we may have hot days in the UK?
