bobsbabes
2018 Buccaneers will include a new L shape layout which will be the Barracuda which will have a TV console. The Galera will stay . I think the Cruiser and Commodore are staying but tbh can't remember lol the others I don't have a clue Edited April 22, 2017 by bobsbabes www. justgiving. com/fundraising/TamiTurner
GB1309
Well no Barracuda for me. Don't like the L shape at all. I must be a symmetrical traditionalist at heart. It's a bit unnerving that you are starting this string only a couple of days since getting your Galera. I'll assume it just interest and you are not planning another purchase! :-) The sun beats down here. I shall enjoy my 2 week old Commodore for another day before we strike north tomorrow and prepare for Northumberland and Scotland on 1st May. I think we might find the underfloor heating a joyful essential if the forecasts are to be believed but at least the midges will likely be fewer. Cheers, GB. 3 . .....still feel like that some days. But not when D4 is hooked up to Commodore.
Durbanite
As there are only the two of us we prefer the L shape as it is easier on the back when watching TV plus more leg room. Sadly there is no way we could afford to upgrade for several years or more so will continue to enjoy our higher spec Cruiser. .

The dealer mentioned about having to order 2018s already and that gossip had ordered 400 units !! Gossip about Glossop? Seriously, it doesn't surprise me. They seem to be flying of the shelves. If they really nail build standard and reliability they could do even better. It behoves us therefore to keep up the feedback. I hope your experience proceeds well and that you don't yet feel the need to seek a replacement! 1 . .....still feel like that some days. But not when D4 is hooked up to Commodore. Durbanite
Seems that the price increase on the 2018 Buccaneer may be just over 3% probably with very little change. Yet to be confirmed. Apparently all will be revealed on 14th August according to Elddis customer service.
fred
Elddis customer service. Isn't that the dictionary definition of an oxymoron? dogman
The new website is launched on the 14th Aug showing all the 2018 models. 1 Never understood why anyone would want to sit in a white box in field looking at other white boxes.
GB1309
The new website is launched on the 14th Aug showing all the 2018 models. I saw Caravan Finder channel featured the new Alaria this week. 8ft wide and E&P system too. Aimed squarely at the Buccaneer market. It was a Cruiser lookalike but had the L lounge which I dislike. It looked tidy otherwise. I wonder if it will make any penetration; they said it will be over £30k. Did they see the Barracuda coming? . .....still feel like that some days. If I recall correctly the Barracuda is a copy cat of the Alaria? I saw one of the 2017s and I was sure it didn't have self levelling or Alde heating. ..Can't remember which. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how it does. A bit late to the part I'm guessing. . .....still feel like that some days. But not when D4 is hooked up to Commodore.
ian16527
Had a look round an Alaria last week. I have to say I was not impressed as the worktops looked tacky and plastic (I know they are plastic but normally don't look as bad ). I am not a lover of L shape lounges but there again I have no taste in styling so what do I know. I also thought the black front locker had a poor finish(Swift Challengers have a much better finish). I am sure it had ESP levelling. Not worth the money IMHO, but there again is a Buccaneer as I cannot see what the extra cash goes other that the ESP system? I'll get my coat Edited August 3, 2017 by ian16527

The 2017 model definitely has E&P and is 7' 8" wide so 2" narrower than the Buccaneer. It has ALDE heating and came standard with the TV console and some other technical bits and pieces called an "Entertainment centre" with USB points etc. However it cost more than the Buccaneer.

ian16527
What are you comparing the Buccaneer with? The lower Elddis ranges (Xplore excepted). Perhaps I should have said, what is the difference in Affinity verses the Bucanneer, so that the latter commands such a high price.
Durbanite
As the new Buccaneer is going to be on an ALKO chassis I wonder if the recommended maximum nose weight will change? At present on the BPW chassis it is 150kg as per the sticker on the side of the caravan. Current ALKO chassis the nose weight is limited to 100kg. However didn't ALKO take over BPW in February this year so they may still be using a BPW chassis in "disguise"?

Perhaps I should have said, what is the difference in Affinity verses the Bucanneer, so that the latter commands such a high price. 2 inches wider, twin axle (affinity only single axle), Alde heating with underfloor heating, different furnishings, wheel locks as standard. The same argument can be said about car trims when the base car and engine is the same. It all to do with choice. Also if you take the crusader range and compare layout against layout . The 'extras' you get on a Buccaneer cost more than the higher list price of the caravan. Self leveling is worth it for the ease of fitting both wheel locks and also provides and very stable caravan when pitched against the normal manual steadies. I personally would never have a twin axle caravan without it. Edited August 3, 2017 by dogman 3 Never understood why anyone would want to sit in a white box in field looking at other white boxes. Given what has passed on these pages I can't see Buccaneer's easily loading below 100kg unless the back is unreasonably counterbalanced. The lower Elddis ranges (Xplore excepted). Perhaps I should have said, what is the difference in Affinity verses the Bucanneer, so that the latter commands such a high price. Well, apart from all the whistles and bells it's just a far nicer place to be. (IMHO). I guess its a similar discussion as to why you bought a 2 litre Mondeo as opposed to a 520d BMW. Your car is excellent and has most of the functionality of the other but. ..... We have also to factor in the intangible badge buying issue which I'm sure never happens with caravan owners. .....:-) And all that Dogman just said. 1 . .....still feel like that some days. point blank
According to Practical Caravan magazine the beds on the Clipper are going back to length ways instead of the side ways Hobbit beds currently fitted. It looks like my order for one will be going in at NEC Caravan show if that is the case. 1 Buccaneer Clipper and Mitsubishi Shogun SG3

I prefer the previous railway carriage layout which was what our 2012 was. I wonder what the payloads will be for 2018; the same i'll bet. Just did the final final final re-vamp of the spreadsheet on ours and reckon with 119kg payload we are at plated 2000kg MTPLM (+/-1%). That's with about 150kg in the Landrover. If I'm nicked, then I'm nicked. :-( 1 . .....still feel like that some days. But not when D4 is hooked up to Commodore.
dogman
Practical Caravan magazine has just landed on my door mat with details regarding the 2018 models. Two new layouts the one described above plus the Barracuda with L shaped lounge, mid bathroom, and transverse bed. No pics of interior only exterior. The exterior is no different to 2017 models except you can see an Al-Ko hitch stabilizer so it is an Al-Ko chassis. Lets just hope its rated to 150KG's. 1 Never understood why anyone would want to sit in a white box in field looking at other white boxes.
