Do They Really Want To Sell Anything?

I went to order a pair of window stays from a Caravan Breaker and this is what they wanted to ship them to France.

I assume they are hand delivering them as I've just booked a return flight to the UK for 19€

Wow that seems a bit steep. I wonder if some one on CT is going to France could have them delivered to their house and then meet you somewhere near where you live and drop them off for you.

I did this once a few years ago with an A frame cycle carrier for a fellow member and he met me on a campsite I was staying on and I collected a case of Rose` for my help.

I'm coming over to the UK in a couple of weeks, so will get them delivered to where I'm staying, although as the Breaker hasn't bothered replying to my email, it won't be from them.

I think you should go on the Royal Mail website, put in the estimated weights and sizes of the package and see what it will cost. It is not cheap. If the package goes over 2 kg, then the cost rises a lot.

Some companies are geared up to do export shipments and will have contracts and deals with courier firms. Others won't have that expertise and will just get a quote from the most convenient, which may not be the cheapest.

I used to help out in a mail order chandlery and we had bulk deals with couriers who came & collected. The cost was actually quite cheap although many customers didn't think so.

The most difficult and most expensive was small stuff that had to go via post as it meant that someone had to physically go to the post office and queue up to post a small parcel.

The items are 42g each, so with in Jiffy bag under 100g total, International Standard delivery is £2. 45.

I agree but if a company doesn't want to ship outside the UK, just say so, don't take the ****.

If a company says it doesn't ship outside the UK, I either go somewhere else or get it shipped to a UK address. In this case the charge wasn't mentioned until after I had filled in all my information, thereby a waste of time.

There are much cheaper carriers than Royal Mail - Hermes within the UK, not sure about Europe.

As part of another operation I had a pick-pack & despatch system handling 2500 parcels a month, worldwide. ...overall,apart from some specific non-European countries, Parcelforce was tops in price and service. Over past 7 years I have sent my paintings around the globe and apart from where client has requested a named courier I have stayed with Parcelforce.

Could it be the couriers insurance as they are fragile ?
